Feel for the lad. Scored one of my favourite goals of recent Liverpool history against Swansea

All the best to him - was a quality left back for us - and a shame he he had his career cut short by injuries.

Some great linkup play with Suarez - with whom he seemed to be read and supply well, and seemingly always defended well.

Seems to have a good mentality, not too many players like playing out of position... kept a clean sheet too :)

Could have been a great left back under a manager like Pocchetino, Conte. Very clear systems, he played for us under managers who weren't quite on top of that, though they had other strengths. A one man army really, pace, strength, hard to knock off the ball, just needed clear orders from the manager, rather than a pro on the way down like Carra, who he may have not respected enough.

Shame about the injury but that's contact sport for you, he suffered then, Owen before him, Sturridge now.

A physical specimen, shame lacked some game intelligence but still fun watching wingers flying off into the ad boards trying to take him on shoulder to shoulder and some mad dribbles. Some very nice passes in that video above as well, unfortunate with the injuries. Maybe he would've provided something more than Cissokho or Flanno in 13/14 if he was fit?

What a dreadful situation to be in, I just hope he'll survive this, even if he'd be neurologically impaired in some way, it's a lot better than the terrifying alternative  :'( Hopefully he's going to be able to make a full recovery so he can enjoy a lengthy retirement after many years in the game.
