If we play near to what we are capable of then you'd think we should have enough, but don't this lot still have a very good home record? Plenty of good teams have come unstuck there in recent years so we need to be on it from the start.

I would drop Henderson for this one. He's going to struggle against their midfielders.

They appear to be quite erratic, but have been very good at home. I hope that encourages them to come out against us, which should give Salah and Mane the space to run into.
An early goal on the break would be great and force them to come out even more.

Should be an interesting game and one we are well capable of winning.

They have a good home record because they've played crap teams; Espanyol (14th), Eibar (17th), Las Palmas (20th), Malaga (18th), Leganes (8th) and Celta (13th). Leganes aren't very good either, they'll start sliding back down the table soon. They drew with Istanbul BB and beat Maribor and Spartak at home in the Champions League. Nothing to worry about here, I'm expecting a win.

With that squad travelling, we have the means to win this game by 2 clear goals and confirm our qualification for the ko rounds. Eventually its possible to guarantee top finish on goal difference even if we fail to beat Spartak in the last game.

The first team are in good flow (or as Klopp would say 'In a Good Way') and I expect the front six to be the same - Salah, Firmino, Mane, Coutinho, Henderson and Wijnaldum. Great sub options for this group with Sturridge, Solanke, Oxlade, Lallana, Can ready to come off the bench.

One thing that stands out is how thin we are in Central defence. The fixture list shows how intense and demanding the coming games are, one every 3 days.
Jan transfer window cannot come soon enough.

Very much this!

And I think it is because this side is developing a maturity that we (or some fans) perhaps didn't ever expect from this side. And that's really exciting.

What a weird press conference.

The spanish and i'm betting some Barcelona based press who made the trip were asking some odd questions.

Klopp looked perplexed by some of those questions especially the ones about is he happy at Liverpool and what does he think of selling some of his best players.

My thoughts exactly. What a total waste of a few valuable presser questions.

The annoying this is, Klopp is cool as fuck and would respond to any sensible question with a good answer but they go and waste two on whether Klopp is worried that we will sell Phil and Mo to Barca and then go and ask if Klopp is interested to go and manage Barca

These questions should be vetted before hand by someone independent.

Not the end of the world like as JK just basically laughed in the Spanish journalist faces. :)

Thanks to the OP too. Wet my appetite for tonight reading that.

I'd be content with a draw here......obviously we should go there with the best possible plan of attack to win the game and get all 3 points but I just don't want to lose this momentum we've built up over the last few weeks...

We absolutely battered them at Anfield and a couple of soft moments in our own defence (and also in front of their goal) meant that we couldn't win. That means focus must be top of the priority list tonight and I have no doubt we will be up for it given the fact we're high on confidence and with good reason.

Remainder of this week is quite big in terms of context, win both games and we're on a right roll

They're unbeaten at home in all competitions since Juve won there in the CL in Nov '16 so it would be no mean feat to win there tonight.
They've won their last 7 in a row at home as well.

Klavan is hilarious in that press conference.

Dead pan answers to questions then when asked about Salah said " We dont see him that often in training....... he is so fast", then paused and smiled!

This is going to be a tough game. Their home record is good and generally their side is a step up from what we have played more recently. That said, we do have enough to win this. If we get an early goal I hope we can kill the game off early. Would be nice to see lallana on the bench and get some game time in preparation for what is an unbelievable run of fixtures. I don`t see it being easy for us and would take any sort of win.

Also love going home from work to be able to watch a game rather than the usual trash my wife wants to watch  ! (I now await the "does she watch everton ?" question....)

Can in for Lallana and I think you’ve got the team right.  I just don’t ever see a situation where Lallana and Coutinho are both starting in a midfield 3 away against a quality team.  Way, way, too imbalanced for me.

I think we might go for more of the West Ham away, type tactics for this one, with Salah more central - two disciplined CMs giving us more protection:

Karius

Gomez Lovren Klavan Moreno

Mane Can Hendo Coutinho
Firmino
Salah

4-4-1-1 as Klopp described it in the article I posted in the Klopp Tactics Thread.

If we're doing well - Ox & Lallana to come off the bench.

I would be quite tempted to play TAA and keep Gomez on the bench again. He's more than earned the starting spot with his performance against Southampton and in our last few European matches, but just in terms of managing the squad I'd like for us to have a centre back on the bench (not Can - he hasn't the mental capacity to concentrate there and work in a pair, nor is he good at full back).

It will be interesting to see the lineup. I can’t see it being too different from the Southampton game. But then again I also can’t see it being too different for the Chelsea game. Which means there is likely to be some rotation.

We really should have beaten them at Anfield. We were the better team but just shot ourselves in the foot. I think we’ll beat them here.

Excited for this game. We're playing lovely football at the moment and it doesn't come bigger than the Champions League. I don't care about keeping one eye on the game against Chelsea, just get the job done here.

That mad bastard Firmino works so hard for Mane and Salah, I'd love to see him get a goal today.

Yet when we lose, we can hit 30 pages in a little over 3 hours.

Nah, don't buy it. I think this place, like Anfield, needs more supporters, instead of moaners.
