Addiction is a terrible thing but I think it's a flimsy excuse here.  He could have sought help for his addiction or, as is his right in a free society, indulged his addiction in the hundreds of other gambling markets that aren't football.

That's nonsense to be fair.
I'd probably be considered an addict, but I am in control of it. I do bet on a wide variety of things, but 99% of my bets are on football. If I don't see anything football related that I feel I want to bet on, I'm not going to start hunting through the depths of Bet365 looking for a Kazakhstan 3rd division hockey match.

Daniel Taylor reporting in The Athletic that the FA has secretly let off a manager who has been gambling on football, and they are refusing to say why. Apparently the manager has a court ruling which states he is not allowed to be named due to a previous alleged blackmail case against him.

But it seems utterly absurd that you could break both of someone’s legs and be back months earlier.

You could racially abuse someone …. Far less.

Why is the punishment so much higher for this? Makes no sense at all.

I think I read a month back that they were planning on making an example.
My guess is thats the reason.
