Depending on how many tickets have been stolen they could tell people whose tickets have been stolen to report to the ticket office at Cardiff with some ID where a steward could escort them into the ground and to their seats, removing anyone who has got a stolen ticket. This'd only work if the number of stolen tickets was relatively small, not into the hundreds or thousands.

Was it the same Royal Mail van that was had off when I didn't get 12 tickets for the Chelsea away League game last season, the 6 tickets for the Norwich away game last season, the 2 tickets for the West Brom away game last season and the 12 tickets for the West Ham away game this season?
96 Liverpool fans lost their lives at Hillsborough. Thousands more were deeply affected. The Sun said Liverpool fans robbed their own dead and urinated on policemen and other fans doing their best to save them. The Sun said Liverpool fans were to blame for causing the crush by turning up ticketless and drunk. The Sun told lies. DON'T BUY THE SUN!

I'll make this clear.  This has nothing to do with anyone on this site.

It's odd that you mention folk who work at sorting offices.  I post on another footy site, and happened to mention I was in the ballot for a Cup Final ticket.  This guy mentioned that he works in a sorting office, and told me he could get hold of some tickets if I wanted any.  At a price of course!  I was horrified, and told him that I wouldn't consider it, not under any circumstances.

So, it proves how low down some folk can be.

I work at a postal delivery office and unless its the one that deals direct with Liverpool Football Club then there is no way they could steal any tickets. How would they know? Lots of tickets credit cards etc come in disguised post (not with moustache and glasses on before anyone says) ;D  but in bigger envelopes or with a hard piece of card so there is no telling whats in them.
Also if they have only 1 brain cell if they get caught they will be sacked and prosecuted. For what a few hundred quid? Idiots.
Us Postal workers get a bad name but its a very small group of wankers that drag us down with them. Fucking stealing from birthday cards etc :no

I didn't ask him how he would get hold of the tickets, just said no to him straight away. But he did say he's done it before.

Wish I asked him now how he would get hold of them. But I guess he won't have told me.

On the other hand who needs a ticket, got about 200 to get rid of  ;)

On a serious note, I'm not a postie, I'm a teacher.  Not sure abour Briggsy, but if you are you know where I am :wave

Whats all the panic, if the club know a van has been done over, duplicates have to be issued as they will know exactly what tickets were sold to who and details would be passed to the police.  Thus with ID seats have to be given out.

Without trying to fuel the fires of conspiracy, I do find it somewhat surprising that this story doesn't appear to be reported anywhere other than the official LFC site.

He just said it would cost me, but when I told him I wasn't interested he left it at that.

To be truthful, if he'd offered me them for nothing I'd have turned him down.  Just wouldn't be right to deny the person/s whose tickets they were the chance to go.  I'm quite happy to wait and see what happens in the ballot.

It is rather dodgy as surely if as it says they were among items stolen from the postal van (which insinuates other items aswell as tickets were taken) surely it would be reported somewhere else.  I'm not 100% convinced myself, it may be true, may not be.  It does seem likely its a way of the club stopping fans from buying from touts on the black market.

Load of PR bullshit

If LFC were sending a few hundred tickets out of the TO in a secure method (cash value could be at least £10,000, market value could be over £50,000) both themselves and Royal Mail would take adequate precautions (ie securicor van).

How many times do you hear of securicor vans gettin done over?

As has been said before, seems to happen every major event to get the touting message across.

And even if I'm wrong, the only thing to come of it will be there will be a few more LFC fans in the ground for the final. Most on the bottom tier will be stood I assume, so it shouldn't be too hard to find a place to stand without getting chucked out

You can still receive these items on Saturdays, however the Special Delivery service is only guaranteed for the next working day. ie: Something sent on Friday MAY get there Saturday, but is guaranteed for Monday.

what liv4pool was saying was that everybody going through gates 1-3 should have their fancards checked but it would not be possible. Neutrals go through thos gates as well so they wouldnt have fancards (probably would never have heard of them). I used to work on the turnstiles at the millennium stadium and it would be impossible to check every fancard

That would never work.  I can't even believe anyone would think about it.

Theoretically it could work.

Just check every ticket and ask for fancards for the ones with Liverpool area printed on them, but practically, as you say, it'd be ridiculous.

Kick off queues are bad enough without this shite.

Print duplicates and accept the fact there will be a few hundred extra in the ground, some will get kicked out but loads will get away with it. Anyone who was in the Kop for Chelsea last season will know it happens, the Kop was that rammed I couldn't even get back to my seat after half-time!

People who buy tickets off touts will probably still have a fancard and theres no way of matching the tickets up to the details on the card so it's pretty much a non-starter..

Surely you wouldn't even need the fancard ??

Issue duplicates with "DUPLICATE" stamped all over it. If the Millenium "rules" are correct, then the only tickets with "DUPLICATE" on them will be replacements for the stolen ones.

If there is a dispute over a seat in the ground then the owner of the "DUPLICATE" ticket gets the seat (as the other ticket was one of the nicked ones).

Sounds simple enough to me.

Sounds about right to me, of course if i get to my seat and someone with the robbed ones is there, i'll just ask them to move and not tell a steward.

Fan card is a non starter too, STH's with other peoples names on fan cards etc

And for those suggesting than none have actually been stolen it's just to try and stop touts/black market ....

Why would the Royal Mail agree to have one of, if not the, most secure methods of delivery service publically and nationally (it is being reported on both the BBC website and Radio 5 Live) ridiculed and blamed for the loss ??

Im starting to think this is all a load of bollocks dreamt up by the club.

There has only been the one warning from the club and nothing since. Isn't it just a little bit important if it is true?

Its the same before every home game. "We have been warned there are a number of forgeries circulating. Do not buy a ticket outside the ground". Every week its the same message over the pa system.

Suppose we will find out tomorrow what the score is. Just think its funny that there was nothing on the regional news.

Either way, the club/Cardiff has to do something.

People whose tickets have been nicked have already had the money taken out of their bank accounts and GUARANTEED a ticket - the TO turning around and say "sorry, you'll just have to watch it on TV somewhere" is simply not going to be good enough. This is the biggest event in the English football calendar ... people have already paid for a ticket should get a ticket, if that is at the expense of those people who might have gone in a ballot (though it shouldn't be this way) then so be it.

Similarly, if the ballot is held up by the TO sorting out those people who have already paid then so be it.

Its now being reported in the Merseyside section of the bbc website:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/merseyside/4982170.stm

Several tickets for next weekend's FA Cup final between Liverpool and West Ham have been stolen from a Royal Mail delivery van.

They were taken from the vehicle in Liverpool city centre on Friday, Merseyside police say.

The stolen tickets have been cancelled and Merseyside police are warning fans not to buy match tickets from unauthorised sellers.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: "Fans are advised, tickets stolen on 5 May from a Royal Mail van in Liverpool have been cancelled and will not be accepted for the game."

Merseyside Police said more details about the theft and the number of missing tickets was expected to be released on Monday.

Liverpool Football Club also issued a warning to fans not buy Cup Final tickets on the black market following the theft.

A club spokesman said: "We urge our supporters not to buy tickets from unauthorised sources as they run the risk of not being allowed into the Millennium Stadium and of being arrested for being in possession of stolen property.

"However, all tickets had been sent by special delivery so we will have an exact record of the individual seat numbers.

"We will be working over the weekend to identify the missing tickets."

Allocation reduced

The stadium holds 74,000 with Liverpool and West Ham allocated 24,436 tickets each for the game, with the rest going to the FA.

The match should have been the inaugural FA Cup final to be held at the new Wembley stadium - which will hold closer to 90,000, but it was not built on time.

It meant the number of tickets allocated to each club was reduced.

Many Liverpool fans will be travelling to Cardiff hoping to buy tickets from touts outside the ground.

Pop concerts

In a separate development in Liverpool, thieves have also stolen £80,000 worth of tickets for Take That and Girls Aloud pop concerts.

Police say four teenagers broke into the Radio City box office at the base of St John's Tower in the city centre.

Thousands of tickets with a value of up to £142 each were stolen.

Merseyside Police said the tickets have been cancelled by the ticketing agent, and the stolen tickets are now "worthless".

They warn anyone using them at an event will not gain entry and may face questioning about where they bought them.

Anyone with information about the ticket thefts can contact police or Crimestoppers.

How does the club sort out stolen tickets?

I can't see anythinh other than the following.

The holder of the stolen ticket get in as his ticket is genuine.  Does the entitled ticket holder get a dupicate for the same seat.  This means the entitled ticket holder faces all manner of bother when they get to the ground.  The stolen ticket holder should get ejected.  In reality, the entitled ticket holder probably has to share a seat.
