Jeeze people cool your boots :lmao

I was just pointing out that using Hamann as some sort of knowledge about this game is a bit pointless, as he is renowned for talking utter shite.  Apologies for mentioning he upset people at Bayern, want me to go back and edit that out?  ;D

loved him as a player of course, don't need to explain that do I?

He's been spouting shit for years though, and anyone with an agenda against Klopp like Hamann has will always be on my radar, sorry!

I’ll never understand this attitude towards real top ex players. Carragher always seems to get it on here as well despite doing lots for the club outside of what he says and does on Sky.

People care way too much what ex players say, as long as it’s their own opinion, who cares? Hamman doesn’t like Klopp, so what? He also was a massive part of why we won the European Cup. I realise you’re separatinf the player from the person, but it seems ex players of our club have a very finite amount of leeway from our fanbase, a few comments that are disagreed with and the player is a dick.

Anyway. I know little about Bayern so don’t know whether Hamman was right or wrong, only that I give very little of a fuck about Bayern other than the score line hopefully showing them getting a beating tomorrow.

cos they don't like it when people talk nonsense and falsehoods about their club?

I agree that at time it is over the top - i.e. when every little thing is picked up on by every single ex-playe. But a few take it to a whole different level. And Hamann is one of them, he's a vindicitve agenda driven dick.

Anyway, that's for another time and not for here, and apologies for even mentioning his name.  Won't respond to any other post quoting him in this thread.

Back to the game.

All cool here. Don't all pundits spout shite from time to time? Effenberg, Matthäus both have worked for Sky and have repeatedly said things similar to Didi. Just because it was Bayern criticism it was blown up out of all proportion. As for having an anti Klopp agenda, I didn't see that last night.

Everyone is free to come and state their opinion on current and ex players - that’s how this works. They’re public figures saying things in public

Hamman has a track record of verbal poop and he shouldn’t get to talk utter utter nonsense on a weekly basis for years because he played well for us without being called on it; his opinions aren’t worth your or anyone else’s time ...doesn’t mean watching him in Istanbul isn’t

I never said people aren’t free to voice their opinions and I never said anyone isn’t allowed to disagree with anything that ex players say, as I frequently do both those things.

What im saying is I’ll never get the vitriol directed at excellent ex players of ours purely because they say something which is disagreed with, or is perceived to have said something because they want to drive a media narrative rather than because they actually believe it. If you want an illustration of what I mean,  one on here next time Carragher is on Sky, because I guarantee he’ll be getting volleyed everywhere. The same people who sang ‘we all dream of a team of carragher’s’ a few years ago are calling him a c*nt because he thinks Salah dived for a penalty. I just don’t get it.

Anyway, as others have said this isn’t the thread for it so i’ll Leave it!

Boateng is out for Bayern.
We Remember them with pride,
Those mighty reds of Shankly's side.
And Kenny's boys of '88,
There's never been a side so great.

Boateng is out for Bayern.

Would have liked him playing, he's that big of a liability.

Hope we can exploit the lack of pace in Hummels and Sule together

Boateng has looked a bit poor when I've watched him over the past year or so. I think Sule looks like a good young defender. Hummels himself doesn't look blessed with pace but is generally a good reader of the game. So Hummels/Sule is probably their best partnership at the moment. Still a lot of joy to be had against their defense I feel, given they have two attacking full backs. Neuer is a Bayern legend but another one who looks as if he's struggling at the moment. Some of the goals he's let past recently he wouldn't have a couple of years ago. Aim should be to take a few goals to Munich, and if we concede, no more than once.

Bad news for us that Boetang is out. Would've fancied our front line against him. He looked poor at the world cup. Still, we should be looking to take some sort of lead to the Allianz Arena

Hummels has great positioning and knows how to find his way out of a press. His first pass is often very, very good. Remember Reus 3-1 goal against us in 2016? All down to Hummels going through the press and playing a fantastic through ball.

It's going to be a great match, really looking forward to it. Two giants of European football going head-to-head at Anfield. What else can you wish for? 8)

A win and a clean sheet  ;D

Hummels has quality but we are also a considerably better pressing side than we were then in every aspect.

Yeah, fair play! But I think this game is more or less a free swing for us, because in the return game we will have Van Dijk back and with that a well functioning back line - and the best midfielders in their best positions. That will make us that much harder to beat, so even a draw would not be that bad as long as it's low-scoring.

Yeah that’s the only toss up although I think he might want a fully firing Milner for Old Trafford.

Given the makeshift nature of our defense, I imagine Klopp might want to keep Milner on the bench as a utility sub just in case.

Think injuries etc. permitting fab steps back into midfield at OT. At least I hope he does.
3 midfielders minimum in the next window. And probably another young CB to boot.

If everyone is fit and ready to go, Milner shouldn't be playing in that game

No Lovren training. Will take any win here, not arsed even if it's 4-3. Quite confident we can get at least a draw out there with Virg back.

Still weirdly not that bothered about this one, even though CL is my favourite competition and this looks like a great fixture. I'm too focused on the league this season. Seeing off Bayern would be very special though. Let's get through this leg and kill them next month with the full strength squad.

After the way Salah played from the right in the last game i want him to stay there. Maybe try Shaq as a false 9. If not then give Sturridge a chance and hope he has a worldie.

I'd really hate to see us go back to the 4231 that has made our attacking play pretty average most of the season. We've got great results playing like that because of defence but with VVD, Gomez or Lovren not sure we can rely on it so much.

Pearce confirms Firmino has a virus.

Could still play tomorrow considering Wijnaldum played with one last week.

If not then I imagine Shaqiri comes in for him and Salah starts centrally

And hopefully hes back for Sunday

If no Firmino then I'd prefer Origi to Sturridge. He just offers more mobility and puts in more of a shift defensively.

To me either one are no go's for a game of this magnitude. We can play perfectly well with Salah,Shaqiri and Mane, and that's a hell of a lot better than having Sturridge or Origi start
