Just been watching the road to Kiev on LFC tv. It’s frightening how fast we attacked last season, not hit those heights very often so far. Hoping we can go for it from the off!!

I guess Matip and Fabino to start in CB and Henderson as DM.

Or Matip and Henderson to start in CB and Fabinho  as DM

Really not a fan of the idea of Henderson at the back but I'm guessing this is more to do with Fabinho's value in the DM position than anything else.

Fabinho really needs to be in CM he’s playing at such a good level right now.

Can’t we just bring someone in from the reserves. That’ll be better than Hendo in that position haha

At least Trent is back thankfully

I don't want an unfit Lovren playing. He's played with an injury before a few times and had shockers. The same time it would mean Fabinho cb. Fabinho and Gini are our best midfield. It's a difficult one.
Thank Fowler we're not getting Caulker

Has to be Fabinho for me. He's by far and away the best in the air, plays RB for his country so has the defensive nous.
Happens to be our best MF too, but Im confident Hendo will step up.

No question it should be Fabinho at CB imo. Fabinho is great as a CM but he can't stop the entire flow of Bayerns attacks to our CBs which is essentially what he would need to do to be more valuable at CM than CB in this game. The drop off from Fab at CM isn't that great that we should keep him there at the expense of our defensive set up

I'd deploy Gini as the 6, have Hendo play the 8 role and put someone like Keita in the more advanced CM position. We retain defensive stability, someone to advance with the ball and still have creativity in the middle as well as someone with experience of having played against the opposition. Fab and Matip both have the ability to step out of defence with the ball feeding it into the midfield, beyond the CMs or into the wide positions to either the forwards or advancing fullbacks. Gini has the engine to get across the field quickly to apply pressure and make recovering tackles and he is calm under pressure allowing us to negate a press from Bayern that opens up space for counter attacks

I would agree neither situation is ideal. But Fab can certainly head the ball and his tackles are second to none. I have confidence that Hendo would perform well in midfield in a game like this one.

No we really can't, not against this Bayern side and not against Lewandowski. Playing Fabinho there is already a disadvantage, let alone Henderson or anyone from the reserves .

Henderson can handle his own in midfield and we have other players that play with him that can do a bloody good job in midfield.

Damn Virgil was just back to his best against Bournemouth too, such a massive loss. I think Fabinho should do ok its just that Lewendowski is not a guy to be learning your position against. Maybe Klopp will come up with some kind of tactical tweak to help stifle Bayern's attack.

Otherwise i think we match up well. We just have to keep that clean sheet somehow, or score 4 or something.

Seems a big fuss over Coman leading up to this, last time I saw him play for them he was good not great, has he improved massively and become a vital player or do they just have a massive drop in quality in his position without him?

I think the fuss is mainly due to them being rather crocked with their wingers this season, so losing him to injury too would add to it, as they are down to the bare bones in that position. If everyone was fit, it probably wouldn't be as big a story.

Coman himself missed a massive chunk of the season, and has only started making regular stars in the past few weeks.

Him and Gnabry in the same starting 11 though is a dangerous combination. Coman just started getting amongst the goals too this past couple weeks. Hard to know how good he is, talent is there, sadly for him, staying injury free has been a massive issue the last 3 seasons.

I must be honest, I haven't been that arsed by the CL this year. Now that a tie like this has come around, I'm well up for it. Even more so since our season doesn't hinge on it. Been too long since we last played. I'm hoping the time off will have done us good - for once. At least the rent boys V the Mancs tonight will make it come around quicker.

Our CB situation is FAR from ideal. Still, think we should be beating this lot at home. I'll go for 3-1 to the Reds. Firmino X2 and Salah. Lewandowski for them. Reckon they might even score first.

Paul Joyce seems to think that Fabhino will be CB with Matip and Henderson will be in midfield, it doesn't look as if Lovren will make it for this game.

Henderson vs Lewandowski is the stuff of nightmares

There's no way Jurgen will play Henderson as centre back. He can't head a ball for one thing. His timing is all wrong. Plus Hendo has never before played at centre back, right?

It's a shame, because ideally we'd have Fabinho at the base of midfield to give us a proper foothold in the game, but I imagine the  Brazilian will be alongside Joel Matip at the back.

Thanks for the OP Alonso. Good stuff.

+ Bayern leave out Boateng for Champions League clash with Liverpool

Bayern Munich have left Jerome Boateng out of their squad for their Champions League match
against Liverpool on Tuesday night, while Franck Ribery will travel separately to Liverpool on Monday.

Ribery has just has just fathered a newborn baby while Boateng is believed to have gastrointestinal
problems.

Kingsley Coman has been included in the squad despite leaving the pitch early during Friday's win
over Augsburg.

The winger suffered a knock to his ankle in the 3-2 victory and was consigned to light training
on Sunday.

Didi Hamann was on german Sky yesterday and was pretty clear that in his opinion Bayern have to go with the Boateng and Hummels, purely because of their experience. He mentioned the fact that they were not very quick on the turn and that would present problems should our front three get into fourth gear but he would still go for these two, as anyone playing there will have problems anyway, so go with experience. Of course that's all redundant now as he's not even in the squad. If Ribery starts, he won't last 90 minutes but could still do some damage, so he needs watching. Coman has been their best player these last few games but if he's crocked and they play him anyway it could suit us. If we can stop them scoring at Anfield then in the second leg the game will open up because Bayern will need to score, which will suit us down to the ground. Martinez could also start, he is a very cumbersome unit, with experience, arms and body being used to full effect. James is blowing hot and cold, I'm not sure what Kovac will do with him. All in all, they are not to be taken lightly but I think it's an ideal time to be playing them as their defence is not as good as in days gone by.

shows how utterly clueless Hamann is then wanting them to leave out their best central defender  ;D He's managed to upset the whole Bayern back office and fan base (and players) last week, he's a dick, and a cluelss pundit.

One of the best in his position to play for us in my lifetime and a part of almost every trophy I’ve seen us win. Couldn’t give a shite if he offends anyone at Bayern, to be honest.

One of the best in his position to play for us in my lifetime and a part of almost every trophy I’ve seen us win. Couldn’t give a shite if he offends anyone at Bayern, to be honest.

loved him as a player of course, don't need to explain that do I?

He's been spouting shit for years though, and anyone with an agenda against Klopp like Hamann has will always be on my radar, sorry!

shows how utterly clueless Hamann is then wanting them to leave out their best central defender  ;D He's managed to upset the whole Bayern back office and fan base (and players) last week, he's a dick, and a pretty cluelss pundit.

Who gives a fuck about the Bayern back office? Anyone who employs Salihamidzic and allows him to speak on any matters of football and people without the ventriloquist is not worth bothering about. Die Würde eines Menchens is only applicable when it doesn't apply to Bayern Fuck 'em.
