I got the feeling it was over too but to be fair he did make some bogeys and Hovland was right with him for a long time, Scheffler was sniffing about too

Though he did show a lot of mettle

Hovland definitely has a major in him

Yeah, but I think you have to accept you are going to make bogeys on that course. It may have played a touch harder too but the rain softened it on Saturday which meant a few pins were target practice if you found the fairway. Without the rain I think the winning score would've been -5 or -6.

Hovland's ball striking is fantastic and in fairness his short game shortcomings are improving, I'd be shocked if he doesn't win a couple of majors in the next few years.

Have to wonder if LIV is the best thing to happen to Koepka. Gets paid tens of millions to play in a few events a year that he doesn't care about instead of having to grind week in and week out on the PGA Tour at a bunch of events he doesn't care about. Gets to keep his body (knees, hips) fresh and has probably allowed him to get healthier, quicker. And still allows him to do this insane thing where he just locks in for Majors and contends at a bunch of them.

Re: Viktor, definitely think that Major is coming and coming soon. Still has a lot of work to do on his short game and this course allowed him to hide that weakness quite a bit. But T4, T7 and T2 at the last three Majors he's played in, so he's stacking the results and the experience. Really easy guy to root for.

Can't wait for the US Open at LACC. Think it's gonna be a banger.

Another good win for Hovland yesterday. I watched a bit and he was 2 behind the leader with 3 to play. Managed to get within one, and McCarthy must have bogeyed the last which took it to a Play Off. must be a strong contender for the US Open.

Yeah McCarthy put his tee shot on 18 in the thick rough and had to hack out to the fairway but couldn't save par. He did the same on the first playoff hole. Hovland just kept it on the fairway and had to hole a 5 footer for par to win.

Nice to see another Holywood member win on Tour with Tom McKibbin winning the European Open in Germany. Pity Rory couldn't do the double. I doubt there's ever been two players from the same club winning two different tour events on the same day.

Hovland just seems like a really sound fella. Always smiling, loves the game and he deserved his win yesterday. And just in case you thought he would be busy spending his winnings today? No, he's caddying for a friend of his for 36 holes in a US Open qualifier.

LACC has never hosted a Major before, so here's a fantastic video that the fellas over at The Fried Egg released last week that covers a bit of the history and architecture of the course.

I'm a member but I meant another as in reference to Rory. I haven't won a tour event unfortunately  ;D

Tom played in our Saturday fourball once when he was about 13/14. He knew then he would play on tour someday.

Wow, what huge news.  Felt like that came out of nowhere.

So LIV golfers took their money and now will get to be part of this new PGA/LIV/DP umbrella anyway.

Edit:  new golf entity will get their Saudi funding.
https://www.cnbc.com/2023/06/06/pga-tour-agrees-to-merge-with-saudi-backed-rival-liv-golf.html?__source=sharebar%7Ctwitter&par=sharebar

PIF is prepared to invest billions of new capital into the new entity, CNBC’S David Faber reported on Tuesday. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.

Wait, what??

So the Saudis basically own golf now, right?  And the Mickelsons and Poulters get to keep all their cash and are welcomed back in?

I can't tell how much - on the face of it - that I hate this.

A lot to process but my initial reaction is that this absolutely freaking blows. Jay Monahan can get in the bin, the money grubbing, hypocritical bastard.

They'll buy football up in just as quick a time.  World Cup 2030 will be in Saudi rather than where it should be, in Uruguay/Argentina.  About 4-5 clubs in each major league will be Saudi entities I'd guess.

Especially as the speed of this merger has taken the golfers themselves by surprise, it feels like no one else knew about this.

I'm stunned by this move, the LIV tour has no interest in revolutionising Golf, more trying to cleanse themselves of human rights abuses in Saudi which they can't do, after all the money the PGA have spent fighting the LIV tour banning there players & all that, Jay Monahan needs to resign, spinless move by the PGA.

I'm absolutely shocked by this news. It's like I've been hit by a car. We're used to seeing clubs taking the blood money, it's started to leak into organisations like UEFA and FIFA too. Boxing and F1 have taken the blood money as well as some other sports as well but this is a whole sport being sold off to the Saudis

This is only the start as well. I hope some of the bigger names who stayed at the PGA walk away from the sport in protest

European Tour are the big losers from this in my opinion. They won’t get to keep many events. Nobody will lobby to retain the Czech Open or Scandinavian Masters. All the events they used to have will vanish. America’s have more gravitas.
