True.

But it happens every tournament to every player. They are used to it. Or should be. Tiger, Rory, or the 200th ranked player in the world.

After the ball is hit then fair game in my opinion even though I wouldn't do it personally. I've rarely heard anything during someones backswing though, that's just not on.
So bloody what? If you watch football to be absolutely miserable then go watch cricket.

Tommy Fleetwood says he didn't hear fan who screamed in his backswing on 18

“It didn’t affect anything,” Fleetwood said, standing in the parking lot at day’s end.

He said he didn’t hear it, and it wasn’t a factor.

“I’d be making excuses if I said it was,” Fleetwood said.

https://www.golfchannel.com/news/tommy-fleetwood-says-he-didnt-hear-fan-who-screamed-his-backswing-honda-classic

Tommy is just a great guy and would never use it as an excuse.
But if you watch the replay he does turn around after his ball hits the water and has a good look around at what I assume is the crowd...

PGA tour has definitely encouraged this in the last few years
Go to the waste management in Arizona and it’s brutal bu the players expect it

And it is creeping in to the European tour. Maybe not like mashed potatoes or some other inane shit, but there will always be dickheads on the ale

Anyone can interpret Tommy's reactions.

1: he hits his shot and watches it go into the water. Walking towards the direction of the shot. He didn't jerk his head around the minute he finished his swing.

2: He's pissed off at himself and turns around and looks back towards the camera and where his caddy probably is.

3: the gallery is behind his back lining the hole in his swing. Yes, someone shouted. And for the microphone to pick it up so clearly the idiot would have had to have been fairly close. Not down the fairway the direction Tommy looked.

One thing i love about The Masters, there's a lot more decorum expected from the spectators, if you go & shout any of that shit, then you're escorted off the course & permanently banned from ever returning, i don't mind cheering a good shot or putt, but it gets annoying those shouting out, IN THE HOLE & all that shit.

Alright mate, as you say whatever you interpret!!

I watched it live and next he looks further over to his right more towards the gallery. Also there’s no way he’s not hearing that shout, it was screamed out. Fairway isn’t that wide.
Also why the hell would he not want to watch the shot? The whole tournament was riding on it, even if it was headed for the drink!

And then you’ve got Poults, who has a played a few more PGA tournaments than you or I at a guess, also commenting on it.

Get in the hole!!!!!!

As for why he watched the shot:

“I hit a bad shot,” he said. “Could have been a great shot, but actually as bad as it was, it could have landed three yards left and been on the edge of the green and I’d have had a chance. It is what it is. I was really enjoying the moment coming down there with a chance to win. I still had a chance to actually eagle it or birdie it and get in a playoff, and it just didn’t happen. But one bad shot, and that’s it.”

I think i'll take Tommy's word that the shout didn't effect his swing.

Always fun to watch Tyrell, very talented but capable of doing mad shit and he flirted with throwing it away but got over the line. He's a big red as well.

A quick point on Rory while I'm here. I don't like him at all and I never have, his smarmy arrogance really pisses me off and I've just never taken to him. But he really ought to be winning more tournaments than he does, especially so considering the positions he gets himself in. He's been in contention every week this season and on Sunday just hasn't really threatened.

Due to Coronavirus. It's supposed to be being held in San Francisco at Harding Park, but they're discussing a contingency plan to have it at Sawgrass. Well that's what Robert Lusetich is saying on Twitter.

If the Open has to be cancelled then the R&A will move the venues back a year as this year was supposed to be the 149th Open, as they want the 150th Open to be at St Andrews, Royal St Georges is supposed to host the Open this year, i think Royal St Georges will still host the next Open but could be next year.

I do think golf is one sport where I would still watch where there are no fans to generate an atmosphere.

I used to watch the 2nd tier of European tour where there are no fans, sometimes even no caddie and it is still quite enjoyable.

Sent out yesterday by the course I play:

Concerning COVID-19 & Golfer Safety

As of Monday March 23rd the Golf Course will remain open but make significant changes to maximize safety at the facility. Our first and foremost concern is that both our customers and staff be safe during this unfamiliar time. We recommend that everyone take precautions for their own protection. If you are in any of the “at risk” groups please be extra careful and stay home.

At this time the Golf Course will remain open with following modifications to our operating procedures. The Sports Bar will close until further notice. No food or beverage options will be available.

The driving range and chipping areas are closed until further notice.
Power carts will no longer be available. Hand carts will be available and cleaning solution provided.
The clubhouse is closed. The only access provided will be to accommodate the use of rest rooms. No food or beverage service will be provided.
The walking rate will be $25 for 18 holes and $13 for 9 holes. All transactions must be conducted by credit card over the phone.
We send our best wishes to all individuals and communities that have been impacted by the virus.

We are closely following the news & will take all recommended precautions during this time. We will keep you updated via email & our Facebook page as the situation evolves.

De-Stress at the Course!
The game of golf fits into the “social distancing” guidelines. That said, our goal is to take all the necessary precautions to keep everyone safe. We are encouraging our customers to follow social distancing guidelines and not closely congregate in groups. We also recommend that customers be respectful of others at all times, keeping the six foot barrier. Limit your number of “touches” including hard surfaces, handshakes, hugs, etc.

Remember these are difficult times, together we need to do everything we can to protect ourselves and others at our homes, workplaces and play places.
Either we are a club of supporters or become a club of customers.

Got my clubs last night.

Dear Member,

Further to the Prime Minister's announcement at 8.30pm this evening, your Council convened again and was sadly forced to take the decision to close our Club.

The instruction given by our Prime Minister was unequivocal and at this time, we must follow that instruction without deviation.

I am sure you will appreciate that this latest step taken by the Government will have a huge impact on all golf clubs and, in that respect, we are no different.

Your Council will convene on a regular basis during the ongoing situation and I will of course continue to keep Members updated of any relevant changes or advice.

In common with many of our peer clubs, the success and survival of xxx is under threat during the current circumstances and your Council would ask that each and every one of us in this moment help secure our future. I appreciate the financial burden that this situation may have put upon you and your family but to secure the long term stability of the Club now, more than ever, we need our Members to continue to support xxxx by continuing to pay your membership subscription.

The impact of what is currently happening cannot be understated.  Our Club was founded over 100 years ago and, to this day, has risen to all challenges it has faced.  I have no doubt that we will rise to this challenge. We will return to the Club where many of you have been Members for a significant part of your life, just as soon as we are advised it is safe to do so.

As the Prime Minister stated, we can beat this and we WILL beat this.  If we come together and muster the strength to carry on, we will emerge all the stronger for it.

We are encountering a period of disruption unlike that seen in over a generation and I sincerely hope that all Members, and their families, keep safe.  Please follow the advice that is already out there and take care of yourselves.

Our course. Clubhouse closed. Check in online. Practice area they have put the stakes further apart. They have bought golf trolleys and are making people walk unless handicapped or Americans cause a stink then you can ride in a cart but only one person allowed. Doesn’t stop some dickheads walking off the first three then jumping in a cart

The home of longtime St. Simons Island, Georgia, resident Davis Love III and his wife Robin was destroyed by a fire early Friday morning.

“While everyone in our family is saddened at the loss of our home that was filled with so much laughter and incredible memories, we’re very blessed that everyone is safe and unharmed,” said Davis Love III, in a statement he released. “We’re very thankful to the first responders who made a valiant effort to save our home, and we’re keeping things in perspective as people across our community and around the world are struggling with the current unprecedented health crisis.”

It’s unclear at this time what caused the fire.

Love, the winner of 21 PGA Tour titles, built a home several years ago that was nestled among live oaks and palms on a secluded five-acre lot with prime marsh frontage on St. Simons Island, part of a chain of Georgia barrier islands nicknamed the Golden Isles.

Love is the longest-tenured resident among the island’s many touring pros, playfully called the Sea Island Mafia, arriving as a teenager young enough to start in the cart barn at his first job and cut the crabgrass out of the greens at Sea Island’s Seaside Course with a hook knife. For several years, Love has hosted the Pro-Am draft party for participants in the RSM Classic in a tent in his backyard.

The tournament has raised more than $13 million in its first decade to support local charities focused on children and families in need through the Davis Love Foundation. It’s part of what makes him an island institution.

“We’ve been proud members of the St. Simons Island/Sea Island community for many years and will continue to be for many more,” Love said. “We appreciate all your thoughts and prayers and your respect for our privacy.”

The course I am a member at it completely closed down however the have had to bring in security along with 2 other neighbouring courses as a lot of non members have been going on and playing despite it being clearly closed.

Tractors parked in font of the barriers etc. There is only a few green staff on and the whole club is shut down, no rakes in bunkers, no flags on green yet visitors are taking the opportunity for a free round.

I played my course Thursday. Joined up with two others. We all kept our social distancing.

Clubhouse closed. You book and pay for your tee time online or by phone. Then when you show up at the course, you stand outside a window ( where the counter is), keeping social distancing,  to call inside to check in.

Then off you go on your tee time.

No rakes in bunkers. ( found the bunker on 7 but didn't get a sand save.. :( .. missed a 10 footer, made bogey)

The bottom of the cups the flags are in are inverted so that when you hole the putt it does not fall down into the cup. So it's easy NOT to touch the flag to get your ball out.

Course was busy enough. Played in 3 hours 50 minutes. I shot 84. I think the lads with me shot 80 and 86.

jesus that is shocking with Davis Love.

I was thinking recently i cant see the ryder cup going ahead this year.

too many events are going to be cancelled in the run up, although some tournaments might go ahead i think that the amount of qualifying events will be drastically reduced and therefore they might postpone it a year (like 2001 albeit this is vastly different)

I do think golf is one sport where I would still watch where there are no fans to generate an atmosphere.

I used to watch the 2nd tier of European tour where there are no fans, sometimes even no caddie and it is still quite enjoyable.
i attended the british open in portrush and everyone was quite respectful, i think some players enjoyed it more as a result, i remember all of jim furyks group tipping their hat to me at one hole as i just gave a quiet "well played" to all 3 of his group (they landed their tee shot to a par 3 all within 10 feet).

but in america you get some absolute morons and even Americans like Butch Harmon hate it

The open and Ryder cup films are great. I love when they do masters ones too.

2012 Ryder cup was one of the best sporting events ever

Enjoy watching the 2017 masters on YouTube. Had a last min piss up with a mate on the Sunday in his house. One of the most enjoyable days of golf ever. (Helped I suppose by me finding out the day before my wife was pregnant)

I could watch them films for hours

You can never teach Americans golf fans to behave.

Their golf fans are just hooligans who do not have any sense of divinity. Heckling players on the course (Monty, VJ Singh) because they said something that disagreed with the Americans and cheering miss putts or misplaced shots in Ryder Cup. You cannot blame the Europeans for giving it back to them.

Even in tennis if you recall, their fans were cheering at unforced errors any time someone is playing against their own.

FWIW, there's revised dates for all the major tournaments with the exception of the cancelled Open championship. Whether or not these will actually take place is anyone's guess

U.S. Open: Sept. 17-20
The Open: Canceled
PGA: Aug. 6-9
Ryder Cup: Still Sept. 25-27
Masters: Nov 12-15

The Masters should be scrapped. Playing it twice in 5 months just won't feel as good.

Imagine watching that unfold on a freezing cold November evening though. I'm not saying no to that.

Wonder if they'll have the fans there or not.

Augusta in mid Nov could still be in the 80s as their winter is pretty much 2 months and straight back into summer, ok that might be a wee white lie;). I once got sun burned on Jan 1 golfing in Atlanta as was nearly 70 for feck sake.

Only real issue is daylight, can The Masters finish a days play with the normal field, with the lack of daylight that time of year, although the final round would have to start earlier, but could mean 10.30-11pm finish UK time?

well last year they kicked it off earlier on last day.

There's ways to get it done early. Start earlier and or do three balls final day
