Prof is there an easy way to make a spreadsheet of fixtures like you have in the OP? I'd like to recreate that with all 20 teams for something unrelated

Do a quick Google search for premier league fixtures spreadsheet.  There are a few with every fixture.  If it's not in the right format, try using a few formulae to pull out what you want or use the filters if necessary.

Whats the deal with everton being in it? Have you got a big enough negative y axis?

Present for later in the season when they get kicked out.

I don't think it haa been explicitly posted but the seven "easy" away games, the away par 3's are:

Newcastle
Brighton
Huddersfield
Crystal Palace
Burnley
Swansea
Watford

So we failed at Watford already, and just about beat Palace at Anfield. A bit deja vu already!

We deserved to beat Watford and would have done if their goal had been correctly ruled offside. As for Palace, all that matters is that we beat them.

The other point to make is we are not making the most out of our chances either. We are creating a lot, but are yet to really be ruthless. One team has got a hammering to come, we could really massacre some unfortunate team. Would love that to be United like.

I personally think we're long overdue for a good 7-1 thrashing of some poor team. ;D

At the end of the game week is when it needs to be updated. The data only changes now when everyone's played their fourth game.

Hopefully we move to +1.

We'll be getting replaced by them ourselves - we're currently level on points with Everton!  :o
We’ll still finish in top four - and they won’t. You can quote me on this in May.

I think Everton are abnormally high because they've played a lot of big teams, so there has been little scope for them to slip down the APLT. When they play some average teams and continue to drop points they'll drop like a stone.

I still don't rate the APLT, the league table seems to overrated teams who've played a lot of minnows but the APLT seems to do the opposite and overrate teams who've played a lot of big games.

What does the APLT tell us so far?  Chelsea, Man Utd, and Man City are in a three way battle for the title.  Chelsea were looking favourites before their draw with Arsenal, but now look third favourite.

Arsenal look on course for a solid top four finish.  While Liverpool, Spurs and Everton so far are not playing to a standard to push for the top four.

Do you disagree with any of that?

What we are also able to do with a projected target is follow the trend line which tells a different story during the season.  It shows at what points teams are in form and vice versa.  Something much harder to do with the raw results.

What is quite brutal about football results is the impact of one goal.  It's a low scoring sport which makes variance have a bigger impact.  We've dropped two points in two different games we've drawn.  If instead of conceding late in our opening match, we'd scored late in Saturday's match, we'd be four points better off.  Everton weren't close to not dropping points in any of their games they've dropped points in.  This won't show up in a table like this.

Essentially, Everton deserve to be where they are, and we deserve to be next to them, but we could also justifiably claim that with small changes to those two games, we could be much better placed and over the season we have greater likelihood to finish higher.

It's probably because a title winning team will usually take something like 2.3 points per game from shit teams and 1.5 points per game from good teams. But we are using shit teams & home matches rounded up a lot and hard games away rounded down a lot for simplicity. Also the categories are probably needing a reworking. There really does seem to be a top 6 then everyone else in terms of strength. How good those "everyone else" sides are depends on their results against each other more than their ability against the top 6. Everton tend to get battered by all the big sides and yet are a top 7 side. This is due to Lukaku against the 13 below, not the 6 above.

We're +2 up to -3 now.

And H2H with last season on same fixtures so far - we're +1.. For all the talk of a bad start, we've been playing fixtures consecutively so far that we've not done traditionally/last few seasons well. Watford A, Palace H, Leicester A have all been bad fixtures for us and we've done okay in them. City A is the one fixture that we do well usually, but with Mane sending off, it wasn't to be our day. Yes, the next few fixtures are also not traditionally great fixtures for us, but if we wade through them with good points, there are plenty of fixtures following them that we usually win.
