Nor last season. He’s faced Messi, Neymar, Ronaldo, Mbappe, Hazard, McTominay, et al, during that time too. Amazing stat.

There’s very little that I can say about VVD other than he is the standard that ALL centre backs in the world are now measured against. He has everything.

Garth Crooks can go slide down a bollard the minge faced waddler. Trying to create a narrative of Van Dijk needing to leave at every opportunity. He hates that we’ve got the best centre half on the planet. Bad, bad dickhead.

Just ignore him, nobody is going to believe that Virgil wants to leave.

Every time one of our players starts showing world class, Garth Crooks seems to have an agenda about them leaving Liverpool. He's probably worried for his precious Spurs team.

We're one of the top 2 teams in Europe. Unless he wants to go to City, whom he turned down, there's literally no more competitive team in the continent that will give him more opportunity to win or better wages than what we can offer.

There are several that will give better wages right? I mean our wages aren't anything to be sniffed at - but we seem to give players good wages, give them a season to prove themselves, and then up the wages with a new contract.

United, PSG, Chelsea, Barca, Real will give players more upfront.

mhm... I could just as easily put out a narrative that says Pochettino is going to leave.... which is actually more likely than Virgil leaving

Think he makes the other CB who partners with him look/play better than they probably are.  Probably the highest complement you can give him.

A good read that. There’s another in the Guardian with Robertson from this evening and the players just sound ready for anything. Nothing is taken for granted and they’re gonna give everything.

It’s not that it’s a shock to hear that but as you say reassuring to feel the focus from them.

@OptaJose
 1 - Virgil van Dijk has played more minutes played without being dribbled past by an opponent than any other outfield player in a single Champions League season since at least 2005/06 (1080 minutes). Titan.

When Son bore down on Allison and Virgil steered him wide and easily booted the ball away...  I'd like to say it was unnerving but Christ on a stick there was no other possible outcome, was there?

Virgil needs to have the trophy until the parade. After all, just like Kane, it'll never get away from it's marker.

Might just be our best defender ever. Even though there were jitters all over the place, with a man like him, there was always the belief. We have him.

Fuck it, let's give him Ballon d'Or  :champ

Was yet another moment where you can see his worth. So composed, such pace and strength in recovery. Strikers think they have a chance and then get brushed aside. Outside of that, Kane barely saw the ball. Virg won virtually every header and overall was composed, imperious and organised. In a match where no-one really played at their best level and no-one on the pitch was particularly cohesive, I thought he, along with Alisson, Matip (and perhaps Son and Rose from their side) had really good games.

Well deserved of his place as one of the premier defenders in the world. He'll only be even more imperious next season.
