Non-LFC Goals you remember really well
« on: May 17, 2021, 11:57:27 am »
With all the talk of a certain goal over the weekend, it got me thinking about other goals that stick out to me.

I'm not talking about huge goals in finals, knockout rounds, tournaments and the like. Just a goal score mid february 10 years ago that for some reason you can picture perfectly.

For me the biggest one is a goal by Marc Albrighton in 2010 for Villa. There was a perfect ball from Barry Bannan from the half way line on the touchline, across the field into the path of Albrighton who controlled and finished. To this day I have no idea why I remember it so well and I can't find a video of it anywhere.
We already have shit in the country, and the game of Liverpool fills life with joy. Thanks

Willian for Chelsea v Man City last season.

If that doesn't fit the criteria, Bergkamp's hat trick goal v Leicester around 1997. He then scored a similar goal for Holland v Argentina in the 98 World Cup quarter final.
Craig Burnley V West Ham - WEST HAM WIN - INCORRECT

Bale's goal in the Copa Del Ray. I love roadrunner pace goals. One of my favourite goals of all time.

Recently Vardy against Man City when Mahrez nonchalantly control-passed a raking cross-field ball right into Vardy's run.  Just made it look so simple.

It maybe doesn't meet the qualifying criteria for the question as it was a CL final but I can picture Macca's goal for Real as clear as day and that must have been a long time ago now.

Glenn Hoddle for Spurs at Anfield May 1982. Comes to him just outside the centre circle he knocks it forwards, it bounces a couple of times and he fucking lashes it with the outside of his right foot into the top left corner, Brucie was flying full length and couldn't get near it. I was right behind the Kop goal and saw the ball swerving away from Brucie and dipping into the net. You have to remember these were the days of proper caseys, not the fly away move all over the show balls they use now.

The game was huge as we won the league that day, but for sheer brilliance, the goal is hard to beat. I still remember it clearly almost 40 years later it was that good.

That Fulham player against Palace who chested a diagonal whilst fully sprinting on the run and volleying it in right footed. Think it won goal of the season.

From the very early days of the Premier League, Shearer’s brace on his Blackburn debut against Palace. One was a bit of a dipping half volley, the other he bent into the top corner from way out. Sunny day, baggy shorts, crowds still on the terraces, I remember those really vividly.

Here’s the first one: https://youtu.be/mf2PGiv6egs

Similar era, Le Tissier’s two against Newcastle. One where he floated it up and volleyed it so casually, and the second where he flipped it over two defenders before rolling it in.

I always loved that Kanu "no touch" goal against Depor back in 2000. If ever a goal perfectly summed up a player it would be that one. Just incredible nonchalance that we hardly ever see any more.

It's true to say that if Shankly had told us to invade Poland we'd be queuing up 10 deep all the way from Anfield to the Pier Head.

Not so long ago, but Charlie Daniels' goal for Bournemouth against City a few years back sprang to mind pretty quickly.

Another one that seems to stick in my mind a bit was Harry Kewell scoring for Leeds at Highbury - back when Leeds had that bright blue away strip with yellow trip.

Philippe Albert chipping Schmeichel also comes to mind, though that one is probably reasonably 'high profile'.

And, yes, I am indeed left-footed ;D

Arjen Robben's volley from the corner for Bayern v the mancs at old trafford in the CL.

Fucking hell what a goal that was, loved that he didn’t even try to hide how impressed he was with it himself with his celebration as well

Mine would be

- Pavard vs Argentina 2018 World Cup, just a beautiful finish
- Gourcuffs goal against PSG back in 09, never hear it talked about any more but one of the best you’ll ever see for the speed of thought and the execution
- THAT Juninho freekick vs Barca
- THAT Messi freekick vs Atletico
