Watched it and thought it was decent. Loads of complaints about the sound quality though, people couldn't undestand the Yaaarkshire mumbling.

Good cast though, last series was good and things are set up quite nicely for this one too.

Decent opener.

Spoiler
Like (for now, early days of course) the introduction of two new batshit crazy female characters. Is it wrong that I was immediately troubled by the looks of Clare's old schoolmate? I thought he would be the new sick villain or something.

Help me with something from the 1st season. Ann that just joined the police force was the girl was abducted in the 1st season, right? Was she and her family acquainted with Claire and Catherine before the abduction?

That would make anyone talk funny in fairness!

The Detective (Molsley from Downton) - pretty sure he played a similar role in The Lakes where he ended up murdering his wife who was having an affair. Can anyone else confirm?! Thought that special policewoman putting the link together was a nice little twist.

"Lovely" stuff at the boozer with Clare and her acquaintance and Catherine out of her mind watching.

Hope there will be more scenes with Katherine at the psychiatrist.

I can sense these freak teacher- Tommy Lee Royce encounters are already getting a bit tiresome.

His wife was shagging the chef (who now plays Big Mac in Casualty); think he murdered his wife and i think his sister-in-law helped him rid of the body. He was a school teacher.  Great show The Lakes.

Agree with that.

It can't be that often down the years that I've ever actually looked forward to watch an acting performance for itself alone. But hers is certainly in that category.

Will add to the praise of SL, she's fucking fantastic!

I started watching this on the rec of a friend and jumped straight into season 2 thinking it was some sort of procedural (my mistake).

I kinda want to go back and watch the first series but feel like I've hit too many spoilers.

Advice welcome :wave

Go back and watch, won't detract any.  First season was quite brutal as well, particularly one scene.

Apparently Sarah Lancashire has said she doesn't want to do a third series which is a shame.

Not necessarily. I think it would be fine if they ended it this season.  I know it's character driven but you can only say that much about the Tommy Lee Royce stuff and the complex relationship with Catherine's grandson and further develop her character. Side stories are nice and all but they can get you up to a point.

Not that I wouldn't watch of course  ;D

Apparently SL needed convincing about a second season as well.

I think I agree. It would just become another procedural - Heartbeat with violence. I'd rather see her do something new than push this one too far.

exactly this.  it's her rust cohle moment and no mistake.  she owns the screen and about ten feet in every direction when ever she's on there.

it's crazy that this is the same actress who used to be on the cover of every TV listings magazine a couple of decades back.  i kind of wish she had ended up on homeland, so that she could be appreciated by a wider audience, but she probably did dodge a bullet there :D

any discworld readers in here?  her character reminds me of what it would be like if granny weatherwax took over from commander vimes :D

Ha ha - yeah, great analogy S. I'd actually forgotten about that but you're right. The beginning of that second episode with the psychologist was so reminsicent of Mc's domination of the stage when he was crushing his cans.
