Create your ideal band
« on: June 19, 2007, 11:51:19 pm »
I searched for a similar thread, no results, so here goes ,

If you could create your ideal band who would you include and why? The positions vacant are as follows:

1. Drummer
2. Bass guitar
3. Rhythm guitar
4. Lead Guitar
5. Vocals
6. Optional (add another vocalist or musician of your choice if you want. All types of instruments are welcomed)

A short caption explaining your selections would be appreciated. I enjoy the insight of others.

It can be a pop, rock, reggae, or a metal  type band, or even a mixture of all. The choice is yours from all genres. I'll kick off :

1. Drummer : Keith Moon - The Who (A renegade and a hotel room thrasher, all great rock bands need one. Top drummer)

2. Bass guitar: Michael "Flea" Balzary - Chilli Peppers (For a band consisting of just lead & bass, his style moulds the chilli Pepper sound. Class!)

3. Rhythm guitar: John Lennon - The Beatles (Need i say more? every band needs a genius song writer.)

4. Lead guitar: Brian May - Queen (Tough selection here, but his melodic lead style, with Lennons melodic rhythm would give great dynamics)

5. Vocals: Liam Gallagher - Oasis (Argue if you like but hes got the balls to get up there & do it. The May/Lennon pairing is made for him)

6. I'll go for Jerry Lee Lewis on Piano. (Top rock pianist & would be the icing on the cake)

That selection may seem abstract to some, but i guess we all have our tastes. If you have 6 maestro's in mind...... post away !!!  8)

Drums: John Bonham - Led Zeppelin (just listen)

Bass: John Entwistle - the Who (widely regarded as one of the greatest)

Rhythm: Keith Richards (still going strong)

Lead: Jimi Hendrix (of course)

Vocals: considering this band looks like it will rock I would choose
David Bowie

Pianist: Paul McCartney

so that's

                John Bonham
Keith Richards      John Entwistle
   Paul McCartney        Jimi Hendrix
                David Bowie

okay? :)

Apart from animal, the rest were all on my shortlist. I reckon everyone could pick 4 or 5 ideal line ups. Choosing just one is hard. Now i know how Rafa feels :-)

Animal: [roars]
Floyd Pepper: Oh, yeah, that's Animal. Show 'em what you do, Animal.
Animal: I what do: Eat drums!
[chews on a cymbal]
Dr Teeth: No, no, beat drums, beat drums!
Animal: Beat drums! Beat drums! [beats the drums with his head]
Floyd Pepper: Down, Animal!
Animal: Down!
Floyd Pepper: Back!
Animal: Back!
Floyd Pepper: Sit!
Animal: Sit! [He sits quietly for a moment, panting, then sniggers to the camera]

Since this is a patently ridiculous idea, I thought I might as well have some fun with it:

Drummer: Sly Dunbar
Bass: Robbie Shakespeare
Rhythm Guitar: Melissa Auf der Maur
Lead GuitarTurntables:DJ Code Money
Vocals: John Lydon
Vocals: Lauryn Hill

Note please: last time I looked, all mine are still alive and kicking.

Bass: Stuart Zender (ex-Jamiroquai)
Rhythm Guitar: Nile Rodgers (Chic)
Lead Guitar: Sam Harvey (The Departure)
Vocals/Vibraphone: Roy Ayers
Vocals/Piano/Synth: Donald Fagen (Steely Dan)

There's also the percussion and the brass section, who would be employed on a session basis  :wave

Drums: Richie Hayward (Little Feat)
Bass: Jaco Pastorius (Weather Report, Joni Mitchell)
Rhythm Guitar: Bob Dylan
Lead and Slide Guitar: Lowell George (Little Feat)
Keyboards: Tom Waits
Trumpet: Miles Davis

With that much talent and that many egos in one band it wouldn't last 5 minutes however thay'd have been shit hot and the songs would have been there too with 4 great songwriters in there. Waits, Dylan and the ridiculously unknown Lowell George would take care of Vocal duties.

Had the Crucial 3 in my locally-themed outfit and then realised
McCulloch was the most dispensable  :o

Drums: De Freitas (preferably beating on his own coffin*)
Bass/Vocals/keyboard programmes etc: Cope
Lead Guitar: Carr
Guitar, lead vocals & most of the songwriting: Blackwell
Guitar & Vocals: Wylie (sub 119' McCulloch)

There would be cameos from other local luminaries like her out of the Zutons on sax, the RLP brass section, a few fiddlers from a local Irish outfit, and frequent voice samples from such as John Aldridge, John Peel, Roger McGough, Benjamin Zepheniah, Elvis Costello, Grifter off RAWK, Paul Jewell, Jegsy Dodd, Billy Butler and random Merseyside vox pops from da streets. Liberal use of a big screen for such purposes.

The one-off gig would start at the pierhead at 11.25 on Christmas Eve (not New Year's Eve - too clichéd)and of course be interrupted at midnight by 5 minutes of drunken sailoring from the sirens of every ship on the Mersey - yes both of them.

The only publicity for this all-night gig would be a vigorous leaflet campaign around the pubs and a series of pickets outside the cathedrals, and the Chief Constable would not only be blackmailed into turning a blind eye but would in fact break out free hallucinogens, later bringing his entire family onstage do a guest spot on the maracas.

Oh and there'd be a Kora player. Any supergroup worth its nosecandy needs a Kora.

*was he cremated ? I dunno, who cares, it's a fantasy.
