One thing that video highlights is how often he tackle passes, as in deliberately tackles in such a way that the ball goes to one of our players.

Just watching the game back, it was like having another Scouser in the team. He was absolutely bang up for it. I thought at the time we had a bit of a problem; he'd been involved in a row with Suarez by the corner flag already and then he was (wrongly) booked for that cruncher on Suarez again all within the first 12 minutes. Given how snide we know Barca are I thought he'd be lucky to stay on the pitch for the duration. I thought he did well to stay out of trouble for a while but it still didn't stop him getting stuck in when there was half a chance. Absolute monster.

Ahh good ol' Stabinho! Really happy for him. Has brought a completely different presence to the middle of the pitch.

Love that. Keeping the game simple. Win the ball, play it forward to the man in a bit of space.  If you can do both in one go then even better.

He’s just perfect for us in that 6 position.

Him coming in and playing as that 6 regularly elevated our midfield from good to great - it leaves Henderson to do what he does best - be the aggressor from the 8 position and it gives us a far better base in midfield to launch attacks from.

I think he’d actually be brilliant if he played as an 8 as well - he glides through the pitch when he gets the chance.

We’ve got a properly top class midfield here, along with Henderson, Milner and Gini - Keita and Ox still to come in and elevate it.

Maybe after this match, the Brazil manager will stop putting Fabinho in the RB position and play him as DM where he really belongs instead.

I agree, his miles above Casemiro and Renato and better than an ageing Fernandinho.

I’m still in awe of his performance on Tuesday night, what a mix of aggression, quality, snide and sheer will. Best defensive midfielder in the world for me, and he’s still getting better.

I remember after Kiev we signed this lad practically the next day, and a lot of us felt a little better. A year later and he’s a key reason why we have a chance to right the wrongs of that fateful night.

If he gets wrong side he still manages to recover and win the ball more often than not. Brilliant.
His reach with the legs seems to defy laws of nature. So many times when he lunges for the ball and my first thought is that hes too far away, but he still gets a toe on the ball. His opponents seem to think like me, and often look genuinely surprised.

Yes it's something that Lawrenson was particularly good at. It's annoying that refs sometimes just don't see that he gets the ball rather than the man and penalise him for sometimes brilliant tackles.

Oh my god, he is. He does absolutely everything we all thought Can would do, only with more mobility and barely-controlled anger. I really want to see one of his long-range belters go in soon.

Turned into? Been amazing for a few seasons.

He had been excellent in the French Ligue. Its a bit cliche, but moving from one league to another more physical league, playing a different system, I did not expect him to get to the level he eventually got to in the first season itself. If I am being completely honest, I was expecting Naby to really be in top gear and Fabi slowly getting there. Naby was also doing well before he got injured but there's plenty to see from him still, but with Fabinho, given just how good he's been in the 2nd half of the season, and the rate at which he keeps getting better and better with every game he plays, its scary how much more he could have in his locker still.

It's so wierd, cos he was getting picked early this season when he wasn't starting for LFC I seem to recall?

And now he plays every week, and has been in such great form, he doesn't get picked. Brazil national set up is a bit daft.

I hope he doesn’t get too despondent and channels his disappointment towards a dominant performance in Madrid. Having said that I’m in utter shock, what a strange call.

You'd think that'd make him an even better pick, that he can play 2 positions so well.

Heck, he can even fill in as a central defender with no bother!

But Brazil do make some odd decisions, as many have said, their loss. Feel for Fab though, he surely would be one of their best players!

It's insane. Tite chose these players:
Brazil Copa America squad: Alisson (Liverpool), Ederson (Man City), Cassio (Corinthians); Dani Alves (PSG), Fagner (Corinthians), Alex Sandro (Juventus), Filipe Luis (Atletico Madrid), Thiago Silva (PSG), Marquinhos (PSG), Miranda (Inter), Eder Militao (FC Porto); Casemiro (Real Madrid), Fernandinho (Man City), Arthur (Barcelona), Allan (Napoli), Paqueta (Milan), Coutinho (Barcelona), Neymar (PSG), Everton (Gremio); David Neres (Ajax), Richarlison (Everton), Firmino (Liverpool), Gabriel Jesus (Man City)

The Copa America is not treated as seriously as the Euro's. The manager is probably giving players like Miranda, alves and filipe Luis the last chance to win a National honour before they retire. That would explain having alves ahead of fabinho because they usually play fab at RB. And militao has had a great season for porto which has even seen him get a transfer to real madrid before the season was over.

I know people are mad - partly for the player and partly because the idiots that will say he can't be good - he wasn't in the brazil squad....

however this is great for us - with the dumbass nations league, copa America AND AFCON taking away half our team this summer - we need every player we can get that will be able to get a full preseason.
