16/17 Season will be our Achilles heel for another 3 years yet as long as we keep on performing well in Europe.

Not after this year.  8)
3 midfielders minimum in the next window. And probably another young CB to boot.

Anything else is negligent.

Any chance of us bringing our bright orange kit back for the away leg of this one?

In regards to Barca not being all that great. They don't have to be, when they have the best goalscoring playmaker on the planet along with Suarez and Dembele , they will cause United massive problems. They did get through against PSG, without Neymar and Cavani, so unless something happense to Barca until then, their chances of going through are much much slimmer than in the previous round.

Messi, like Ronaldo, is totally capable of carrying them.

Coutinho’s good but dunno if he’s that good
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Made up with the draw - we should beat Porto fairly comfortably over two legs...especially if we're allowed to bring back last season's orange away kit for the away leg  ;D

The other ties are mouth-wateringly interesting for us and other 'neutrals'!

Ajax v Juve seems like the 'tie of the round' for sheer footballing spectacle reasons...very close to call.
Man City v Spurs will just be a cagey Prem affair that Spurs will huff n puff at, but will probably suffer from over the two legs....there is no way their "League's Best First 11"' can trump City's "League's Best Squad" over two legs :D
Barca v United has got attack v defence written all over it. I reckon it may pan out a bit like the PSG v Utd games...BUT there will be no repeat result at the end. Can see Luis being pumped for this one and 'saluting' the Manc crowd when he scores :D

The quarter-final first legs take place on 9 April and 10 April.

The semi-finals start on 30 April and 1 May.

Have nothing personally against Coutinho. But I can imagine him wilting under the scrutiny of the Anfield crowd, just like Sterling. There's no reason why we shouldn't take advantage of this.

That's if he even gets on the pitch.

I'm actually glad we didn't get Ajax, they have the potential to pull off an upset. Porto will be straight forward but they still deserve respect, anything can happen at this stage. Not sure if they've improved after we walloped them last year but we're still better than them in every department. Bit annoyed about City v Spurs, wanted them to get Barca and Spurs to get Utd.

thought with the new increase in prize money it would be over 10 years and would include past glories , {trophies won in Europe}

Since 2018 the UEFA club ranking is computed by the sum of club points in the last 5 years, with a minimum of 20% of the country ranking. For the distribution of revenue there is also a 10-year ranking that includes historic title points. The 2 methods are calculated separately.

Can we just take a minute to be thankful for the position we're in?

I know, we're Liverpool, this is where we're supposed to be. But 2014/15 ended with a 6-1 loss to Stoke. Fucking Stoke. From 2009/10 (when Rafa eventually left at the season's end) to 2014/15 (aside from the League Cup win and that one amazing half season under Brendan) we were dire for large parts of those six years. Then Klopp arrived and since then has taken us to the Europa League final, two 4th place finishes, a Champions League final, now we're 1 point off the top with 8 games to go in the league and are overwhelming favourites to progress to the Champions League semifinals again. All this in less than 4 years.

We've won nothing yet of course but we've definitely come a long way

Is right.

Which is why I never understood the lads (most of which aren't fans of this club) who said we should throw this away to focus on the league. I remember seasons like 14-15 or 12-13 when at this time of the year, the season was already over and we're just playing to see who will be there the following year. Now we are competing for the league and in the last 8 of the CL, something I haven't felt with this club for a long time. Long may it continue too.

Yup, it won't be a 5-0 again, but as long as we take them seriously, we will get through. Let's take a lead (to nil) to Oporto this time.
Yep, that's my hope - a solid clean sheet win at home, take a grindy, defensive approach to the away leg after beating chelsea to save energy.

Wish we could just stop the already-incessant Coutinho/Suarez return nonsense

As we above all others should know, anything can happen in football. FOUR matches have to be played before the above scenario occurs.

Lets just concentrate on Porto, who will be no pushovers at all and who will have serious extra motivation due to last year.

Absolutely. Also - whilst I think Barca will ultimately see off the mancs - nothing at all is settled there either, as their fixture with PSG showed.

Not a terrible draw but to be fair there was no easy draw in my opinion. Porto are a very good side and they're still in the competition at this stage for a reason

Looking forward to the 2 games and to seeing how the other games pan out as there are some fascinating ties and equally fascinating head to heads on the pitch

Can't really complain with the draw. Porto are a good side but if we want to win this tournament we should really be beating them.

I was looking for 2 things mainly:
- Avoid an English team
- City to get a tough draw

Both of those things have happened.

Not too sure about your City v Spurs analysis.. let’s face it, last year we were apparently outmatched by City and turned them over proper. Knock out football and all that. You never know.

If we beat Porto then I really hope we get Barca in the semi. Nothing would give me greater pleasure than to knock those fuckers out and rub Coutinho's and Suarez's nose in it in the process. Don't get me wrong, the thought of playing United in a European semi is pretty enticing, but I'd happily pass it up for the chance to get stuck into Barca. I've really grown to dislike them in recent years. They were pretty much Europe's biggest underachievers until the Argie Imp came along and helped them make up some ground. They can take that good guys image they try to portray and ram it up their arses as far as I'm concerned. I'm praying that we get them, I really am

Where are all the people who claimed that the draw would be fixed. We got a decent draw and there's every chance that we will go through (well obviously there's nothing certain and we'll have to play well). We avoided the better teams and that means the draw was kind to us.

Tbf we need to win but we need barca to win so we are at home in the 2nd leg of the semis.

If United we have to play home first if City beat spurs
