the Europa league is basically all we are playing for now though isn't it, is it not worth the risk? otherwise we are just protecting him to get run into the ground in the Copa America or whatever.

thats a fair point. If it were me i'd rather have him there for the second leg and see what can be done... but then again he could get injured there as well so it's a bit shite either way..

The lads got so much ability.  There's a hell of a lot more to come from him.
And just how did that goal come about? Pressuring and prowling around the defender. That's what we need tomorrow night and hopefully we've been working on that- regardless of whether he's available or not.

This lad is prolly the only one at the moment that can do that naturally in our squad(and to a lesser degree Ings). It's not a slight on the others, it's just the way he plays.

Out of all players on the pitch, defenders(especially Central Defenders incl. the goalie) are the least skilled on the ball and that's why Klopp's pressing at Dortmund was all about pressuring the defenders and not so much the midfielders. His team mostly cut off passing lanes to the midfielders(who are the most skilled of all players on the pitch). You won't easily press midfielders successfully, but defenders can be pressed into all sorts of mistakes and the moment they do- blam! You pounce. Once it becomes clear that your defenders are encircled and will be bombarded the whole of the match(worse- one or both of them, have succumbed to the pressure), the rest of the opposition falls apart. That's your 4-0s right there. You can turn Bayern over, for instance, and rip them wide open with total, sadistic abandon, which is just what Klopp's Dortmund did.

Hope we see that tomorrow. I've got a sneaky suspicion that training's just gotten real this week. A new tactic(to us) is required against Dortmund.

I personally wouldn't risk him, if he's not fit then leave him at home to recover. Can't afford to take him, have him work his socks off and in the process of that cause more harm to himself and then lose him for longer.

After Klopp, Firmino knows these better than anyone else having come from the Bundesliga.. Key player for us..

And by the looks of things, he's old pal- Subotic, may make a bow. We need to get at him, but Klopp will know this as he would know the weakness of quite a few players in that side.

They can be got at- just go for the soft underbelly.

Ooops, I didn't get that memo. Didn't look at all injured against Spurs and even had an assist.
According to the papers though, it's Thrombosis in his arm and has stopped training since 1 April. Won't be available for the rest of the season. Aaah well..

Me too. Against Spurs a couple of good chances fell to Lallana as he was playing upfront but this time around I hope those chance will fall to Firmino instead. He will enjoy playing against their defence that seemed a bit brittle at times.

I Feel like Origi, Sturridge and Firmino up top will be perfect next season for hammering the dross and we can find a combination involving 2 starting and one coming on as a sub against stronger teams.

There was an interesting talk on The Anfield Wrap's Tuesday Review yesterday about this and if it will be a strategy used going forward against the weaker teams, as they said it will be interesting to see if it is used in the remainder of the season as an experiment against Newcastle or maybe Bournemouth? Certainly feels a good strategy to just try and blow these teams out of the water, especially if they just look to sit back we will need as much firepower and goalscorers on the pitch as we can.

The problem with starting all three together is that they all perform best in the middle of the attack and there's only one spot available there.

But they're also all flexible enough to drift around the place and occupy different spaces. If it's done right a fluid attacking trio all able to drift wide or take the central role sounds very hard to stop.

Is that something Klopp has done before with Dortmund? I'm not sure. He's had a few chances to play a fluid front three here but hasn't tried it yet.

I think we're looking to set-up to press aggressively from the front, each player learning the trigger for the press in their position etc. It sounds nice on paper but not sure it works in reality if players are constantly swapping positions.

I don't think it's too much of a problem. Origi has a tendency to drift of to the left flank and cut in I've noticed in recent games so he could probably start left and cut in, Sturridge can play on the right and cut in as he did at Chelsea, and Firmino is capable of dropping deep from the centre to allow the other 2 to drift into the middle

No thanks

The way to play them would be Sturridge and Origi up top with Firmino tip of the diamond. But then you have Coutinho one of 3 Centre mids. And then it's just all too narrow. We are missing a winger now, it's so obvious when we struggle to score.

I'd be surprised if we don't see coutinho the left of a three AM with a new winger brought in on the right and one up front. It's how Klopp has mostly played. ( 4-2-3-1) that way you get the high pressing

In his last season for Chelsea he scored 11 goals from 28 apps largely coming in from the right.

Pretty decent return.
