Barnes and Beardsley. Went 28 unbeaten that season, not sure if they played in every game without looking. Houghton maybe but he didn’t join til around October I think. Aldridge maybe but he might have lost one or two at the back end of the previous season.
think it was 29 then we lost to the Bitters in the derby

Edit - just checked the archives, Barnes was ever present in our 29.game unbeaten run, Beardsley missed one game before 19 and Houghton at least one game

I definitely think Firmino pioneered that Nick.

He's partially at fault for the goal I think, mis-judging the flight of the cross and coming out instead of coming across to cover.  He's normally spot on with those decisions and his scrambling is top notch, so that was a surprise.

That aside, that pass was highlight of the game for me.  Crazy.

that's harsh, not really much he could do about it, the cross was excellent and failure to track the runner was what caused the goal

Agreed - because if the cross isn't perfect perfect (and I mean perfect) - Alisson probably can get to it or it's behind Niles. I think Alisson did what he was supposed to. Sometimes we forget how fast the game moves in realtime.

Yeah, probably a bit harsh.  Just goes to show how high his standard is though. Another day I totally see him shuffling over and blocking the shot point blank.

This is the first time in years we have had a keeper where you feel total confidence in him, he is that good, although I do think he'll be kicking himself over the goal though. He thought he could get to it, but got that wrong. If he'd gone across instead of for the ball, he would probably save it. Just one of them things, not a criticism before anyone starts.

That pass to Bobby was wonderful, great technique the way he hits it.

Probably go unnoticed with the result, but he made a couple of great saves tonight. The one scrambling back to deny Aguero was it? And stood up strong when Sane (I think) was through on goal.

Was absolutely brilliant. That one on one save from Aguero was even better, and against better quality, than the derby one (was it the Derby?)

He was quality, not much he could do about either goal. Seen some claiming he could save the first but that's absolutely hammered past him

Great save from Aguero in the one on one and some of his passing tonight was brilliant, under pressure and just never looked rushed or panicked when they tried to press him

Great example last night of how far we've come. Confidence comes from the back they say - well so does nervousness. I wouldn't be confident of winning another game if Alisson isn't in nets.

Absolutely agree with the sentiments here. But also there were times last night where Fabinho and Hoever both clearly anticipated the keeper sweeping up a loose ball and Mignolet was retreating back towards his goal. When even the 16 year old RB making his debut at CB is expecting the keeper to be there and he's running the opposite direction you know something isn't quite right!

A pro-active keeper is so important to how we play I'm astounded Migs is given the opportunity to be honest.

^^^ I don't know about the other keepers on that list, but Alisson faces few shots. Could this be affected by small statistics? I don't know if Oblak is too involved in a game, for example.

A little wobbly on my stats, but if he has conceded ten and saved 84.2, he's faced 152 shots in the league, which is 7.24 per game. I must be wrong, that seems about 3 times higher than it should be.

If they're doing total shots, those figures are unreliable. It has to be shots on target saved that gets used. Shots that go wide or over are shots that can't be saved. So they skew the numbers if they are included.

So far, Alisson has faced 67 shots on target, and saved 57 of them. Save percentage of 85%

Some error in your calculation. If he'd faced 152 shots and conceded 10, that would be a 93.4% save rate.

An 84.2% save rate with 10 conceded would be 63 faced/53 saved. Or on PoP's very similar figures (67/57), you get 85%.

Yes, but what I like about the Everton goal was almost the whole defence was involved. Alisson took the free kick that set up Trent for that great cross to Virgil, then Virgil uses great disguise to make the Everton players think he's miss hit it when he's really setting up Divok.

I might as well spew out all the stuff in the brain from the AI 'Under Pressure' podcast.

Dan Kennett has long stated that it's a bad thing for the Expected Goals Against (XGA) numbers to be under a certain value as historically you see reversion to a reasonable mean (due to normal random concession events). Same applies to the non-penalty save percentage. If it's too high, you can expect it'll correct.

Palace apparently corrected those numbers in a nice controlled explosion.

I’m not sure I fully agree with that. Isn’t xGA based on quality of chance i.e. position etc, and it doesn’t take into the account the quality of the player (or am I mixing it up with another metric, dangerosity?). So a better keeper may concede less than xGA?

Just over performance v reversion to the mean is all. Statisticians invoking the Gods.

Alisson over performs v XGA, Liverpool give up very few chances of any quality, let alone high quality... and the worry was always for Dan Kennett that it’s revert to the mean and scupper our chances to some extent.

Nothing more complicated than that really.
