One game at a time, this will imo def keep us hungry and angry like Klopp want's and motivated [not that we weren't going to be had we won] but non the less, it keeps us on our toes.

So on to the next match.

When the season started we were on the same points as City. Now with 17 games left we are 4 points ahead. Keep the pace from the start of the season and we will be good

Those are both ours and their remaining fixtures in the league until the end of the season, the boldest ones are the most difficult on paper. The only reason I've bolded Everton for us is because it's the derby and they always get up for it, while they'll just roll over for City as usual. We both have Spurs at home, Chelsea at home, and United away. The other 'harder' match sees us having Everton away while they have Arsenal at home, and I honestly feel playing Arsenal would be easier. It's going to go down to the wire unless some unexpected points are dropped of course. Hopefully they'll progress in the CL and draw some good sides as well.

17 games left

Win 12 draw 3 L2 i would say from here is slightly conservative guess

That’s 93pts

You’re then looking for city to drop 9 pts
If you don't limit yourself with bad thoughts, you can fly

I know you adore them but 6 behind us and we've played City and Arsenal twice. They've played Wolves and Cardiff twice. They are a good side but clearly the 3rd best side and have the hardest fixture list. It's not that radical, if we drop that many points that they become relevant then we'll likely be well behind City so they are kinda irrelevant really.

No team that's lost 5 games is winning a title. They're going to lose at least 2 more matches as well.

Another factor to consider is our bad form in January under Klopp.

It's a different team now (in mentality and quality), but we will have to turn these upcoming results on it's head to give us a shot.

What bad form in January? We won 3 out of 4 league games last January. The January before that we struggled with injuries, with Matip and Mane both not being available.

Not really. I disagree that we can rule out Spurs for the title on the basis of them “Spursing” (falling at the vital moment) it. That seems a bit hypocritical given that our recent history is full of similar instances.

I seem to remember last year was fine. 2017 was the nightmare January. This current squad has so much more depth than it did then. I think a repeat is unlikely.

The original quote was about winning the title, so I carried on with the assumption that “winning” in this case meant the trophy itself. Not individual games.

Mad.

Set our best record for a start to a season.
Won the most games we've ever won in a calendar month.

And it fell apart to a team who have spent billions on their team? Seriously? Can we wait 3-4 league games before writing this ridiculous form off?

Agreed. I posted before the game about how it was just that, one single game. The media hyped it up as so much more, but in the broader context of the season it’s really not the decider some seem to think it is.

Don't worry, there's always you to talk about Spurs so it's never no-one. :)

It makes it harder, certainly. But we are Liverpool, nothing is ever going to be easy for us. We can't win it on sub 87 like Leicester, we need to get 90 or higher. But we are all on the same team, it's all still possible. Let's get behind the lads. I thought they gave as good as they got and it's never, ever, fucking over when you've got a 4 point lead.

It's fucking on. What more do you want? 10 or 7 points clear would have been ridiculous. We are in a title race. We went from starting this thread talking about how could we ever get close to them, being 4 points behind them and miles off the goal difference, to 4 points clear and level on goal difference.

Tonight was horrible. I was so upset at losing, but by god we have a football team here and do you think they are going to go away and lick their wounds under Klopp or come back out fighting? We're in this for the long haul. Strap yourselves in. We never win anything easy and if you want us to win this league title, be ready for more twists and turns.

Looking at the fixtures, worst case scenario is that they literally don't drop anymore points from here onwards going on a (possible, but improbable 18 match winning run)  - they'll end up at 101 points.

We would be, then, "allowed" to either: A) lose or draw one match, and be crowned champions by either one or two points, respectively, or B) draw two matches and hope we've got a better Goal Difference than them by the end of the season because we'll be both on 101 points.

That's, again, the worst case scenario of assuming they won't drop any points again - it would still be in our hands, but it'd be incredibly nerve wracking, and option B there reminds me too much of 13/14's Crystal Palace game, so it makes me shudder and wish it doesn't come down to that.

If they drop points along the way (hopefully due to Wolves, Arsenal, Chelsea and/or Spurs) then obviously our job gets a bit easier - still not enough to let complacency in, but we'd get a bit more breathing space. It's going to be tight, anyway, but we have to keep believing. Maybe, just maybe, we'll get a lucky break in such a crucial stage after years of rotten luck in similar instances (Macheda's goal in 08/09; Stevie's literal slipping in 13/14; Ramos injuring Salah and Bale scoring a wondergoal he'll never be able to do again back in Kiev and so on...)

On their day they can probably be the best side in the world. But 3 losses in the first half of the season shows they're not going to play like they did against us in every single game. They were beaten three times and had a few close calls as well - Watford springs to mind. That could have ended 2-2. They're not going to win the remaining 18 games and finish with 101 points, of that I am certain. There are some difficult matches in their fixture list as well. Plus, the Palace and Leicester games showed that they're more likely to drop unexpected points than us. Top that off with what hopefully will be a grueling CL campaign, and I think 90+ points wins the league. With Guardiola being a pragmatist, I think if they find themselves any more than 4 points behind by the time the CL comes back again (certainly the quarter finals) he'll throw all his eggs in that basket and will give up on the league. He just seems like a quitter if the chips are heavily stacked against him.

Win the next three league games and get to the start of Feb when they have a couple of tricky ones. Need to still be 4 clear at the start of March but think there is a real chance to extend that by then

Spurs & Man City both have 6 games between now and the end of the month while we only have 4. That's got to put some sort of pressure on their squads over ours. Even if they are playing 'lesser' teams.
And all the world is football shaped, It's just for me to kick in space. And I can see, hear, smell, touch, taste.

It also means they’ll most likely be ahead of us, I really hope our crowd holds its bottle because it’s important to team performance that it does.
WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE!

Normally a player can look great on tubes, but one of the things that's encouraging for me is just the amount of youtube videos on him

Why would they be ahead of us? We play the same number of league games?

How did you get your custom title mate?

Isn’t there another fa cup round too?
94 Corner to us. Last kick. Ali in the box and he’s scored

No lose is ever a blessing in disguise but with a 10 or 7 point gap the potential for complacency was there, while a smaller gap may focus minds.

League titles aren't decided by defeats away to your rivals. It's stupid draws and losses, especially at home to cannon fodder that will do for you in the end. City have already one bad defeat at home to Palace so fingers crossed Arsenal or Chelsea can do us a favour too.

I can't wait to have Gomez fit again, as that will make a difference. Lovren isn't bad, but he isn't particularly good either. I fully expect us to go on a run now, and it's nice to have a 4 point head start. If we only concede 10 or so goals for the rest of season, we will take some stopping.

Having the Man City game out of the way, with a 4-point over them is such a relief. This game was for long being touted as a title decider by a lot of pundits because they thought it was when City put our aspirations to bed by stretching their lead over us. That hasn’t happened and the narrative is changing- “there are too many games left”. This is true but of all the teams this season, we are the most consistent. We will pull away again

The thing that is making me feel a little sick is us probably having to match (or better)  the form of our first 19 games. The best Liverpool start to a league campaign ever.
