  • But we will conquer the ball, each fucking time.
I hate to be a negative brat, but that defence and midfield couldn't get any more average. Still, gonna support the lads. Come on redmen!
The biggest problem anywhere in the world is that people's perceptions of reality are filtered through the screening mesh of what they want, and do not want, to be true.

Huge day for Joe Gomez, he's been waiting for this day for pretty much two years.
Glad to see him at fullback, he can be really boss there. Being used at CB did him no favours.

Klavan had some cracking games for us last season, give the guy a chance. He may just be the better option for a physical battle than Lovren until we finally make a breakthrough with VVD

The general consensus last year was "we would have beaten that mid table team at home if Sturridge was available."

Lets see...
Let us never forget Rafael Benitez and what he did for us. A fighter full of guts and passion. A gentleman full of class and dignity. A football manager full of intelligence and pure genius. A Legend.
Adios Rafa, buena suerte.

Hopefully they come and play, De Boer seems stubborn as fuck so I actually think they might in which case our front 3 should get loads of joy.

Must win this,  with Arsenal and City to follow we really could be playing catch up.

Yeah because we only have 37 games to play.

Not average. It's solid and disciplined but better than majority of midfields in the league. Not average.

Robertson is... actually I haven't got a clue. I can't even remember who he used to play for.

Up the reds

Edit: HULL! That's it. Anyway, we're almost certainly going to win/

Not sure about that midfield but we take it now that Milner is back to being a midfielder for us.

Shame Kent isn't on the bench. Never been a fan of 2 defenders being on the bench to be honest but great of Flannagan to be back in the mix.

Palace are playing the same formation as Hoffenheim. I'd fancy Mané, Sturridge and Firmino against their back three all day long. Mané to Sturridge. Danny could do very, very well today.

Ordinarily I'd say three changes to a back four would have a destabilising effect.

BBC deciding to lead with "Salah has been benched by Liverpool". How much money are we willing to bet that they try to convince us that he's a "flop" at some point?

I hate to be a negative brat, but that defence and midfield couldn't get any more average. Still, gonna support the lads. Come on redmen!

You have to look at what it is playing against though. A central midfield of Milivojevec & Puncheon.

My biggest concern is having two passive aerial defenders vs an aggressive aerial attacker in Benteke.

Delighted to see some rotation though. Can has been going through the motions so far for us in my opinion. Moreno & TAA got through a fierce amount of work on Tuesday. A fresh Salah coming on against Tomkins late in the game could decide it. We never had that pace off the bench last year.

Suspect without the ball, Firmino will drop and make it a 4-D-2 to make sure we always have a man over in defence somewhere rather than 1-v-1 all over the pitch. Also suspect we will be more compact than usual centrally to give better defensive access and will likely leave their wing backs - particularly Ward - quite open at times for a switch as a trade off for being more solid through the middle and leaving Mane high up the pitch again.
My first article on Anfield Index on Shaqiri. Enjoy. bit.ly/2mAq3Qd

This lineup starts to confirm the idea that LB is Moreno/Robertson in Klopp's thinking, and Milner is back being a midfielder.

Should be enough to get the three points today but I think it's clear we're at least a couple short and hopefully we'll address that before the window closes.

Just ignore them, they'll never be able to convince us that he's a flop, the only way we'll be convinced is if he does turn out to be a flop (which I highly doubt).

Congrats to Andy on his debut..at Anfield for the first home match of the season must be buzzing and perhaps some compensation for being left out of the European pre-season tour..Mo will probably be brought on late to make his home debut a s well.

Line-up's a bit untested as the lads, particularly in the back line, haven't played at all together but we should be pretty much on the front foot most of the match so they might not have to defend a whole heap anyway.

So up the mighty Reds let's start building Fortress Anfield up once again.
