Not having the stole a living idea. We kick up a fuss about Sterling being disloyal and being a money grabber but then complain when a player wants to stay on the contract we voluntarily signed him to. Bit hypocritical to me. As fans we're very tribal about the club and obviously it's the most important thing to us, but to some players, especially foreign players who don't have that same tribal loyalty to Liverpool this is a job. I don't go into work and think about what'd be better for my company above all else, including my own financial well being. I do the job they ask me to do, to the best of my current ability. If the company benefits from that then that's great, but my loyalty at the end of the day is to me and my family. Jose knew given the injury he sustained whilst playing for us that he would probably have to take a step down and earn less money doing so, so made the best move for his future. I don't begrudge him at all.

Can not believe the amount of shit this bloke has got, then again this is the modern day era.  Fair enough he has not been on the pitch for us for along time, but he was still a red all that time, and I for one will give him the benefit of the doubt at least that he hasn't faked anything that some seem to imply.

He started off well, but injuries ravaged him really. His physical strength was probably his best asset. His social media persona and reluctance to join other clubs in England and Spain has badly hurt his standing. Good luck to him.

I think it's more to do with the fact that he had offers from other teams to get his career back on track but decided to sit in the stands here on more money rather than play football.

I wouldn't hammer him for it but I do see why some people see him as a bit of a waster in the end.

Injuries fucked him - he was a pretty decent player before that, if a bit brainless.

Not his fault that he wasn't good enough to be picked after recovering from injury.

But thats the thing isnt it. the CLUB offered him the 65k a week{or whatever it was} for the duration of his contract.. i KNOW if that was me id do the same., why take a pay cut when you pledged your commitment for x amount of years for x amount of money, then the club decide they dont want you anymore, so he should take a pay cut because it suits the club?

Best of luck to him. Whatever the assumptions are regarding him declining offers to go to other clubs, that's his business. He was contracted to us and when called upon gave his all. Can't slag him off, he was a good player ruined by persistent injuries. A committed player whenever he wore the red shirt. Walk on, Jose.

:o

Very strange.

Riise was a great player for his in his prime. By far our best left back this millennium and will be regarded much more fondly than both Aurelio and Enrique.

As for Enrique, he had a good couple of seasons with us, particularly his first season when Dalglish was in charge. Rodgers never really fancied him and he suffered for that, but always did a job when called upon, even at left wing. Injuries then curtailed any chance he had at working his way back into the team.

In conclusion, I blame a mixture of Brendan and injuries for his overall lack of success here. We all know that our previous manager liked to isolate players when he didn't like them, so I wouldn't put it all on Enrique's door.
Riise deserves respect, for sure, but I certainly won't remember him more fondly than our Brazilian glass cannon. Aurelio is part of the bizarre Liverpool tradition of utterly sublime fullbacks destroyed by inexplicable injury problems. There's a wistful 'what might have been' about those players that is never going to apply to Riise, where we got exactly what we saw - a physically rampaging fullback who was defensively reliable, equipped with a hammer shot and insane stamina at his best, but was, at his worst, like Kuyt on a bad day with an inexplicaple penchant for attempting said hammer shot on pretty much any occasion he got within the same post code as the opposition's goal. Aurelio, on the other hand, as well as joining Babbel (Gilles-Barre syndrome. I mean, what the fuck?), Jones and Heggem on the aforementioned list of wist, was an absolutely sublime footballer with a delicacy of touch that would have had the Masterchef Professional's judges gushing like a porno Old Faithful. Riise, at his best, was a machine. Aurelio was a Van Gogh, and we always elevate the tragically flawed genius over even the finest of the functional.

If anyone thinks the lad didn't want to play then you're a bit thick.  Wont matter who he goes to next he will not play regularly, might even struggle with the medical.  Cant see many clubs taking him unless offered small wages compared to what he's on and if any one of us knew that was the case would you fuck be giving up your contract on decent wages for a career you've spent all you life working towards.  Lad was decent when fit.  Could be a bit braindead at times but for the most part he played really well.

don't understand the hate he is getting.

He tried his best. and was actually decent before getting injured.

Sometimes may have loss of concentration but physically robust and hardly any wingers got the better of him.

Could have imagined him and Clyne as our full backs if he didn't suffer the injury to be honest.

I think some fans either didn't see him playing or forgot that he was a good player. He was quick and strong and a decent full back. He would probably be our left back if he hadn't been injured.

Good luck Jose and I hope that you regain your form and fitness.

I always liked Enrique. When he kept it simple he could be effective going forward too. He always had deficiencies but actually fought his way into the team in spite of them. It seems that injury did fuck him over.

That goal he scored against Swansea is still one of the best we've scored in recent years.

The club approached his club ,spoke to him ,offered him a contract at X amount and he accepted..I used to play football with a Man city player and he amazed me when he told me most players that play at a high level do it because it's what they do best and can earn the most money at..It's a job and while us mortals would love to be in there position It all makes sense. How many off us out there would turn down a 3 or 5 year contract for massively more money than we are getting now and then after committing to mortgages etc then walk away for massively less...Can't really blame him. If anyone the fault lies with the club but in this case it's just unlucky due to injury. Always thought he was decent and never bad mouthed the club.

Has had the greatest job on the planet, apart from Katy Perry's masseuse, for the past 2 years. Training 9-3, Monday to Friday and off most weekends, getting paid a King's ransom in the process.

This makes him borderline heroic in my eyes.

Isn't that a little strange - being 'released' a couple of days before the last home game of the season. Could have said his last goodbye after the last home game. No real loss for the club, no?
Anyway, all the best to him. He ends with 99 appearances it seems.

Maybe he had a clause in his contract that paid a lot more if he reached 100 appearances?

Anyway-I always liked him. He had an injury that was a big mystery-the club couldn't see it in scans but it gave him a lot of pain and he played through it when possible. Then he really got a serious injury. I never blame a player for sitting on a big contract. He's come to another country, met a nice gal and settled down. His carreer will only last so long and he'd be a fool to give it up.

Nothing but best wishes to the lad from me. Shame how it ended, but not going to criticise without knowing the full story.
Can't blame him for getting the contract he did & not wanting to walk away from pay-cheques the likes of which he'll never see again.

He was one of the best at shielding balls out of play, & seemed to make a habit of playing some great long ball assists up to Suarez.

All the best Jose.

All the best to him. Was solid for us until the injury, had a weird telepathic understanding with Luis that produced some magic moments. He had a contract and honoured it. I always quite liked his social media stuff (even if some cringey), always seemed to have a smile and was trying to share and be open with supporters, seemed genuinely hurt when he got loads of abuse. Hope he finds another club or, if injuries don't allow, another role.

All the best José Enrique Sánchez Díaz.

It's still baffling to me, how he just seemed to have disappeared after his injury (injuries?). He has to have been at least a semi-decent player for us, if he even managed to get his own song. It was shocking to see him play his first minutes in the cup this year after a long break, but after the initial hickups he did okay for a player who hadn't played proper football for ages. All the best to him...

Came in to post that same goal, it's what I'll remember Enrique best for I expect. Good luck to him though. His gf has been learning Spanish so maybe he wants to go home.
What an assist.

I thought his GF was Spanish like him? Maybe I was wrong or he's got a new one  ;D

All the best to him anyway. Always remember him as a bit of a beast on the ball, hard to push off it and strong.
But had loads of brain farts and Carra seemed to not trust him.
But can't think of many LB's in our recent history who were much better than him (apart from Aurelio) so fair dos.
