The Bridge BBC4
« on: April 22, 2012, 11:59:04 am »
I've seen mentions of this in different threads (The Killing / New Great series threads) but after watching the first two episodes last night I thought it deserved a thread of it's own.

Have to say I really enjoyed it ... Saga Noren is an unusual character, dysfunctional would be an understatement :) no doubt her back story will come out as we go along ... the sudden shirt changes and the detached manner will be entertaining as the  story progresses . Liking the nature of the crime so far as well ... clearly a different class of psychopath with the amount of forward planning, cunning humour, and pure grizzliness of the crime itself ...  add in a couple of subplot stories which will obviously merge into the overall story even though we don't know how yet and it looks like we'll have some entertaining tv on a saturday for the first time since Borgen ended .... thank you Denmark :)

thoughts anyone ?

In a word, stunning.Everything about it,acting, story, camerawork and the chemistry between the two lead's look's good.

The Saga Norgen character look's to be playing someone with Aspergers, but time will tell. That's tonight for me,I downloaded the rest of the series last night.Everyone who liked Spiral,The Killing, and Braquo will love this.

Top tv.And if you missed it the first episode is repeated Monday at 11. Thank's to Sweden too. ;)

Another top quality programme from Scandanavia. I feel now that I'm beginning to pick up a little of the language(s). I went to the cinema last week to see Headhunters and I was following a fair bit of the dialogue without needing the sub titles.

Some great tv, film and books coming from over there at the minute.Long may it continue.

And fair play to the BBC for recognising that not everyone want's to watch reality tv stuff if they stop in on a Saturday night.

I've only got two episode's left. The quality never stop's is all I'll say,the only downside is the season is only ten episode's long.Season 2 is not due till late 2013,unfortunately.

Great show.

Here's my theory:
Spoiler
The guy that Saga picked up for sex a couple of times is involved. He was in the flat with Saga when Martin phoned about the young girl who got shot. He fits the body type of the man who shot the released policeman

That's how the killer knew that, due to the vasectomy, booting Martin in the groin was the best way to immobilise him. The Killer didn't want to kill him, as he wanted Martin to investigate the case.

I think it is up there with the first season of the Killing, although not quite as good. I think the fact that the Killing season one had 20 episodes to build the characters and the tension made a difference. Season 2 and Season 1 of the Bridge only have 10 so they can't quite take the time it maybe deserves.

Like the relationship between Saga and Martin, developing nicely. She is great.

Spoiler
I also think the killer is the 'girl' the son is chatting to. That is how he got to find out about the young girl as Saga spoke about her at the table.

Think the reporter might be involved far more than he is letting on so far. The bloke who had the flat and was arrested for murdering the psychiatrist described the reporter, "Blue eyes, check coat, scarf and gloves" but that might be a red herring. Either that or he is getting the inside story for the books he is planning to write about it and therefore ensuring fame and fortune?

Bit late to this, but thoroughly enjoying it. Caught up with episode 3 late last night. Love how seemlessly these Scandi cop procedurals weave in the wider socio/economic/political concerns.

I downloaded the individual Dutch episode's and the English sub's,married the two and watched through the hdmi cable to my tv.

Or you could just dl the BBC episode's with the hardcoded sub's,and wait for the rest on your tv.

SPOILER ALERT

Great series. The scene on the bridge, where Saga is wrestling with her dilemma to lie or tell the truth to Martin about August - that was brilliant.

Fantastic series. If it hadn't have been for Scandi drama I don't know what I would have watched on TV the past 18 months.

Two questions though: what happened to Wiggy? (And what was the significance of her hair? To depict Martin as a sucker for vulnerable souls?) And where did the social worker get to?

Just watched the final few episodes on iPlayer, and they're very dramatic. I'm looking forward to the second series, although it won't be broadcast until late next year. I'm assuming Saga and/or Martin would be involved - perhaps it would involve another case that requires Danish-Swedish cooperation or something.

Saga was a brilliant character; like a modern, Swedish, female Sherlock Holmes. Thought the series was brilliantly entertaining, although as soon as *that* guy appeared, knew he was the killer.

Downloaded "Lilyhammer'' and watched it 1 month ago.Wasn't impressed at all to be fair despite Silvio's presence.Do not under any circumstance think of it as a Soprano's substitute.
