Terrifying and incredibly moving. Some of the best television I've seen in ages.

Is there anything that's come out recently that's been so refreshing and brilliant?

Exactly how I felt. Thought tonight's was outstanding TV.

Just watched the first two episodes on 4oD. Good, powerful, stuff but I can't help thinking of Ben Elton before he went shit.

Seen that comparison elsewhere. To be honest, it seems like it's part satire, part self reflection.

I'm not having a pop with the comparison, far from it. Ben Elton was one of my heroes. As is Brooker now. I'm glad someone has taken the torch, I thought it would be Gervais after the Extras/Big Brother scene but he's too busy apologising for being a twat.

That last scene in the BB house in the Extras xmas special is one of the best scenes of British TV ever.

Next one doesn't look as good as this one and the one last week, but ill give it a go for sure.

Great stuff.  Couldn't help but think about the film Metropolis when they were all on the bikes, doing lunch etc.  all monotonous stuff just to keep the "select few" in power and i suppose, increase their power.

The first with the PM was very dark, and quite disturbing.  Excellent viewing again.

Watched both episodes. Enjoy how different the two episodes have been. The first one was more instantly shocking and grabbed you a lot more quickly. The second one was more of a slow burner but actually ultimately more thought-provoking overall.

Very good television. Wonder what the viewing figures have been.

Probably not very good. But that's kind of the point isn't it? I mean if this kind of show had good viewing figures then it wouldn't need to be made to begin with. If that makes sense.

I'm not sure about that. I think just the fact it's made by Charlie Brooker will pull viewers in.
Will be interesting to see though.

Just watched the first two. Wasn't massively impressed with the first one but the second was absolutely brilliant. One of the most unsettling things I've seen on TV for a long time. I thought the last 10 minutes or so were a little bit weak but the rest of it was heart-rending.

Agree to some extent. However, I think a lot of viewers of the X Factor and similar rubbish don't consider themselves viewers, if you know what I mean. They see themselves as outsiders looking into a world they essentially disapprove of. In that sense I think you can watch a drama like Black Mirror and feel empathy and "at one" with the satirical message even though you are to some extent complicit in the exploitation that reality talent shows indulge in.

We all like to think we are above voyeurism, but are we really? That's what makes the two episodes so uncomfortable. It's an exaggerated reality that we can condemn but we may be guilty of partaking in mob-type behaviour and encouraging the kind of things Brooker condemns.

Think these have been excellent. The part when the guy had the glass to his neck in front of the judges was intense, great acting.

Was going to start a thread on this, but thought I'd do a search in case. Seems I was way behind, didn't see any publicity for this at all (probably the downside of not having a telly anymore) but watched the first two back to back last night in work after glancing to see what was on 4OD. By far the best television in ages, loved both of them. Can't wait for a The Entire of History of You.

Really enjoying this show, a modern day Twilight Zone. Hope Channel 4 pick up a full series of it with Brooker as the Rod Serling type show runner.

First two have been fantastic; well made, original, funny, dark, relevant and thought provoking.

This one is written by Jesse Armstrong, co-writer of Peep Show and The Thick of It, amongst others.

I know I'm late coming to this party, but last week's 15 Million Merits was a stunning piece of television. Wonderfully acted, tremendous production design (the whole thing looked as stylish as an expensive Hollywood movie), and a genuinely thought-provoking hour-and-a-bit of telly.
I knew Charlie had this in him, but Konnie?
