5-0 vs Chelsea at Anfield, IIRC it's his debut...I always remember Paddy in that particular game.

Good luck Paddy, YNWA!

Ahh, evokes lasting childhood football memory. Playing between the sticks during kickarounds, and my mate dribbling it round me repeatedly muttering "Berger Berger Berger Berger..." Timeless.

He used to love scoring against Chelsea. Could do with that now.

YNWA Paddy.
I'll always keep in my heart the good times I've had here, the strong and loyal support of the fans in the tough times and the love from Liverpool. I have no words to thank you enough for all these years and I am very proud to say that I was your manager.

Loved Paddy Berger when he was with us.  Scored some boss goals.

Will never forget his pass to Owen in that Cup Final.

Enjoy your retirement Patrick.  Still love you!  XxX

Think his best position similar to most people was playing off a forward however we rarely played like that under Houllier and Evans. Good luck for the future anyways.

We had spells under Evans (normally when patience with the Dogger had worn thin) where he had more of a free role - him and McManaman behind Fowler. Played like that in the second 4-3 against Newcastle where until we forgot how to defend we played some sublime stuff.

That goal for Pompey against Charlton was stunning by the way - wasn't included in Sky's top 10 of the decade but it was better than nearly all of them.

Great player. I'll never forget his goal which clinched the Anfield deby in 1999, especially as we hadn't beaten the Bitters for 5 years. Good luck Paddy.

Reading this brought a smile to my face

Berger:

You know, the greatest day in my football life was the day I signed for Liverpool. I couldn’t believe it. When I was young in Czechoslovakia, we didn’t see much European football, but my father’s friend went to England and he watched Liverpool. When he came back, he gave me the programme, the ticket and a scarf. I still have them all.

When I moved to Southport to live, my neighbour was Kenny Dalglish. Alan Hansen lived around the corner. I met them, they were normal guys, but they were my heroes. To me, it’s the best club in the world and when I am finished playing and I’m telling my children about it I will be proud to say that for seven years I was a Liverpool player.

If only we had a player with his flair today.
I don't think Benitez likes players like that, though.
He let Luis Garcia and Florent Sinama Pongolle go.
On the other hand, he did sign Yossi Benayoun.

He also signed Garcia though, plus other flair players like Torres, Babel & Gonzalez. I know the last two didn't exactly work out but the intention was there, I don't see any grounds for believing Rafa has something against flair players.

Quite true. Loved Patty. Was my favourite player back in the day. I remember trying to 'be like him' when I played footy as a lad. One hell of a left peg on him. Wish him luck in his future endeavours.

Will never forget his pass to Owen in that Cup Final.

Me neither:

#Owen won the FA cup
#With a top class Paddy pass, givetherladthaball
#Poor aul Arsenal won fuck all.

Owen's a dick though. Obviously.

He didn't come out say say he disliked him. I think he alluded to the young lads in the boot room and how Berger use to show little respect to them unlike someone like Dominic Matteo. No?

Loved Paddy! Us left footers stick together.

What an impact he made, two goals off the bench on debut at Leicester and another two at home to Chelsea in his first start. Obviously he could never sustain that and after a hat trick against Chelsea the following season he then fell out of favour. Overlooked for Oyvind Leonhardsen must have stung!

He had a good renaissance under Ged. In 99/00 he was one of our more established players and had a strong season. His fall from grace seemed to come quite quickly, think he had a bad knee injury and/or flagged in 02/03 that he was leaving at the end of the season so he barely featured.

King of the absolute screamer though. Barely ever scored a scrappy goal, away at Derby and home v Leeds were his trademarks.

it was two on his debut off the bench and another two in his first start a week later. was always going to be tough to keep that form going! scored against all the big teams, loved his trademark skimming strikes into the bottom corner. sexy bastard to boot and all.

I really need some new material. :lmao
