Interesting. Telegraph has listed Gerrard's as one of the most influential sportsmen on Twitter:

Never used Twitter before the past few days because i thought it was useless celebrity update bollocks like some on here are saying. With the bad weather though i've been following First (the bus company) for updates on which services are running and which arent, was really helpful so now i can see a bit of use for the thing.

As for Liverpool players who use it... dunno, dont think i'd care either, although i imagine you will get some inside info from some players about transfers etc, probably the poor attitude, mouthy players who you dont like, but still

They're not far off, just a forum is more structured. So when you see things in different sections of the bulletin board, it's akin to hash tags, it's just another way of adding meta data. Posting something on here that you've found on the internet, it's like sharing a tweet with a link (maybe using a url shortening service) or a picture (twitpic). Passing some information on that somebody has mailed you or IM'd you, or even told you, it's like a retweet. Again, it's unstructured, but it's like a collective thought wave of a global civilisation, and it takes a bit to fathom what's useful and what's not and how to structure it so it is useful to you.

Some people like to just read a news paper in the pub with a pint and their mates. No problem. But some find the collective heart beat of the Internet generation fascinating and in many ways enhances life rather than creates a problem.

Personally I love it.

That's it in a nutshell.

It's a way of keeping up to date with friends, celebrities you admire (they can be intelligent, you know, not just vacuous fools), other Liverpool fans, noteworthy publications, and other sources information, in a real-time format.

It's just a medium. How people use it is the key.

I've found this a really interesting thread to read as I too was a bit negative towards Twitter at first for some reason...but after reading this I can see some benefits.

Would I be able to ask a general question about Twitter here, or should I use another thread?

What irritates most people is when those who have little or no idea what they're talking about make sweeping statements on the basis of their ignorance.

That's quite a sweeping statement to make.

Oooooh Mrs Slocombe
With not much football on at the moment, you're probably looking for something to entertain you.

Well look no further than the Tw@tter feed attributed to Sky Sports News presenter Chloe Everton, who by the looks of things missed her true calling as a scriptwriter for 'Are You Being Served?'

Some choice 'tweets' from the past couple of days include:

On Arsenal v Everton: 'those long balls just keep banging into evetons Box'.

On tactics: '2 big ones up front always look attractive but you need to think about form'.

On domestic arrangements: 'going to cook dinner shortly, gagging for a huge portion'.

On social boozing: 'going down too easily...the wine that is'.

On health: 'with my cold i cant smell or taste anything, luckily i can still swallow'.

And on the weather: 'They are saying there could be 8-10 inches tonight, I'm hopeful'.

at least there is some comedy value to be had from twitter!!

Someone just had to say it didn't they!!! Just looking on the bbc website and say this:

1020 BST: Arsenal are thought to be considering a £12m bid for Liverpool winger Ryan Babel.
Full story: caughtoffside.com

Obviously it's from a crap source, but you have to love these stories, and the likelihood of where they come from!!
On awaiting Everton's arrival for a derby game at Anfield, Shankly gave a box of toilet rolls to the doorman and said: 'Give them these when they arrive – they'll need them!'

What a legend this man is!

Hate Twitter. Will never ever under any circumstances go near it, it's the net equivalent of calling someone on the phone to tell them you can't decide whether to have eggs or bacon for breakfast, and if someone did that to me, I'd fucking bin them as friends. And who wants to know if Paris Hilton can't get to sleep. I'll fucking PUT her to sleep if she fucking wants. And Stephen Fry telling everyone not to fret as he's closing his down. If people live their lives on what Stephen Fry has to say daily, then they're an empty, shallow, shell of a person.

And don't get me started on it now being a pre-requisite for jobs in marketing! "Do you have experience of Twitter?" "No, it's fucking vacous twat" "I'm afraid you're not qualified for this job sir"

Fuck. Off. Twitter. That is all.  >:(

Sorry, original question. Er, don't know, might be better asking someone else.

(phew... almost soiled my pants then)  :P

I was you like regarding Twitter.  I heard social network site and thought oh no not another one.  I am not interested - facebook etc doesn't interest me.

However a mate of mine in work introduced it to me, we are both scientists and I joined not to follow any one famous but things like nature, guardian news, bbc from different mediums and when I log on to twitter I get a brief outline what is going on in the world and its all on one page - any news I find interesting I just click on to it.

I don't use the site for social networking, my life is pretty boring - lol no one would find what I type up interesting - so I don't plus I don't like the idea anyway.  I am very anti celeb and all I do is use it as a tool to get news.  I have no friends, no family, no Steven Fry on my account just boring news and things from NASA, National Geographic, Oxfam etc.
To all lurkers from other clubs "greetings!"
