Always sends a shiver down my spine and brings a tear to my eye. First, the celebration for his goal. Then the way he pumps his fist after scoring the penalty, and then kisses the Liverpool crest on his shirt.

Thank you for Istanbul, Vladi.

LEGEND.

he knows he's getting sold in the summer and he still kisses the badge. lovely.

I think that's probably the most moronic argument that I've ever seen on this site and believe me, there's a fucking lot of competition for that particular title.

Thanks for the memories Vlad. Like Jari and Kewell, never quite brought your best to the club but what a fucking way to sign off. I normally hate badge kissing but he fucking meant it when he did it.
ill have to agree with this..

thanks Vladi.. best of luck in the future.

Played a big part in Istanbul for which he deserves appreciation, but had too many injuries during his 5 years at Liverpool to contribute anything of note too many times.

Think he's too gentle to take on the Czech role, wishing him well though.

Love the guy. Blew hot/cold in his time here, but played a key part in us winning in Istanbul. Best of luck to him managing the NT, but isn't it a bit early?

Quote
Smicer named Czech Republic boss

Former Liverpool midfielder Vladimir Smicer has been named as Czech Republic manager - only a day after he announced his retirement from playing.

Smicer, who will work with coach Michal Bilek, will travel with the team for Sunday's friendly against the United Arab Emirates at the Al Ahli Club.

He succeeds Ivan Hasek, who resigned after the Czechs failed to qualify for the 2010 World Cup.

The 36-year-old brought an end to his playing career because of injury.

His six-year spell at Anfield was blighted by injury but he will be fondly remembered on the red half of Merseyside for scoring the second goal in the team's Champions League final victory over AC Milan in 2005.

He was also a member of the Czech squad that reached the semi-finals of Euro 2004, losing to eventual winners Greece.

Smicer, who has no previous managerial experience, ended his playing days with Slavia Prague after moving from Bordeaux in 2007.

If you're fishing, then that's pathetic.

But he is a hero, and personally for me, a legend. Why? For the second goal in Istanbul and the winning penalty. And the way he celebrated his goal and penalty, despite it being his last game for us.

All his below par performances were wiped out with the goals in 05

Shame he was put out on the wing so many times, when that wasn't his ideal position

"You have to admire animals. Hamster spun round in a wheel three times bigger than him and abruptly lands on his back. Then just gets up and carries on as if nothing happened! If that was a human he'd be helicoptered to hospital, off work for 6 months have back issues for 20 years and then start legal proceedings against the wheels owner"

Not lived up to the hype but he erased all of that with one swing of his right leg. Istanbul made him a Legend and so many others.

Even Kewell?

Second goal was a bloody good strike. And the penalty was pretty good too.

As for the other players, almost all of them can be regarded as legends. Including Smicer.
