What about changing the highest average from who will get it to what it will be ?

each player picks a number say 103, 106 110 ect average and if that is right you get 5 points

Would need to be the whole number that the average was closest to, so 103.35  will be 103

If the rule changes then anyone but MVG is the way to go.

Also a good idea. You could do same with the lowest average and highest checkout

Gonna be pretty hard to pick the highest / lowest average bang on (even to the nearest whole number). And I think we had exact checkout before didn't we? And lots just went for 170 every week.

My vote would be highest average excluding MVG and leave lowest and highest out as they are

If we leave out MVG will everyone not just go for Anderson instead ?,  he has had the 2nd highest average for both weeks so far.

I've had a look at this, and there is probably a good argument that if you leave out MvG then you also leave out Anderson.

Won't everyone just go for Anderson if Van Gerwen is void, though?

Instead of highest average, how about we rotate the player and guess his average for the night without going over.
Spot on gets 10 points, closest gets 5 points, 2nd close 3 points, third close 1 point.

Example for this week:

MVG.

Say I guess 107.25 and he has 107.91. Maybe i'm second closest and get 3 points. Just don't guess 107.92.. ;)

Then the next week we have to guess for Wade. And rotate the player each week.

Also, for highest check out.

We could go back to predicting the actual checkout.
We could offer 3 points for correct player, 3 points for correct score. 10 points if you get the player and score both.

So If i had Taylor and 126 as my pick, then 126 is the highest checkout I get 3 points. If it's Taylor who does it, i'd get 10.

If you did that you would surely have to give more points for the correct checkout than the player?

Not a big fan of that anyway. If we are to change something then I reckon you would offer more points (3?) for correctly predicting a different player to get highest average and 1 for MVG.

Anyway, its only been two weeks so far, not convinced MVG will get highest average every week but he may prove me wrong!

Player- 3 points

Correct score- 5 points.

Both-- 10 points.

But really, whatever Ghost lad wants to do to change things up is fine by me.

Good suggestion Mel, but seems a bit much in adding it all up each week when I do the scores.

What about scrapping the highest average all together and instead have another way of scoring points based on the 5 games where each week you play a Joker on one of the five matches. Whatever points you would normally get for that match is doubled.  All you would need to do is put a J next to one match.

How about:

Most 180s
Lowest average
Highest Checkout

Most 180s week one was Chisnall - 5 week 2 was RVB - 7 so it's a bit less predictable

Like the joker idea (particularly as it gets further on in the tournament and people have dropped behind)

Predictions:

Gary Anderson 7-4 Peter Wright
Adrian Lewis 7-5 James Wade
Phil Taylor 5-7 Raymond van Barneveld
Michael van Gerwen 7-1 Jelle Klaasen
Dave Chisnall 6-6 Kim Huybrechts

Highest Average - Van Gerwen
Lowest Average - Huybrechts
Highest Checkout - RVB

I am in favour of doing what Rysoph suggests, at least as a trial.

So from next week, unless there are any objections, we will swap Highest Average for Most 180's, and introduce the Joker for one particular game of your choice where whatever score you would have usually got for that game is doubled.

I suppose the only issue with the 180s is if there is a draw (which won't happen with the highest average) so I suppose each tie for most 180s gets a point each?

Edit - just saw this from page one rules so assume the same applies:

If more than 1 player share the highest checkout then two points would be awarded for correct guesses on either player.

Sounds good lads. I never win anyway but as I find the league format actually pretty shite (it's weird having a darts match where it can be a draw), it keeps me interested in the matches.

Understand the high average being  potential problem. not sure if a joker situation would solve it though. Won't it be just a question of by what margin  MVG wins by most of the time?

Highest average without MVG or Anderson is a possibility.

I am all for keeping it simple though.

Perhaps we could spice it up by guessing how mad Trump is going to be this week....

Just saw that Wright averaged 109.48 against Anderson. Van Gerwen's got work to do if he's to top that!

Whoever throws first makes a big difference to the scores I think. A player throwing first can win 7-4 with just 1 break but if you predict a player to win 7-4 and they throw second you need them to break twice, including breaking their opponent to win the match. Tough to assess really as we've no idea who's got the darts when making predictions.
