I can only think they are taking this approach to maybe keep his dream of the Euro's alive. I agree that in all likely hood he won't make that, but maybe he's not quite ready to give up on that dream? So, that way they refuse to name a date.

Yeah, it's the worst news but he is getting the best possible treatment available. His drive and high pain threshold will prove to be huge factors in his rehabilitation. I just have that feeling that he will do something miraculous because he's that sort of guy. I am truly expecting to see him back on the pitch before the end of the season.

The club’s generic-ish statement and definitive lack of a timeline and explanation of the injury reminds me a bit of Ox’s knee injury he got against Roma and how the club handled that one.

Best to assume he’s out for a very long time (ie the rest of the season, at minimum) and anything more positive than that we just take as cautious good news. After the surgery I don’t expect many, if any official updates, for at least several months.

What might work in our favour is that the Netherlands is so poor under de Boer that trying to get fit for the tournament might dampen his enthusiasm.

I would suspect they are being cautious with him. The scan he had didn't show anything major, but with Joel's injury record I think this is the best thing.

Has good change of playing at weekend apparently.

Thiago might not be fit.

After the Derby they said they had to wait until Thiago's knee came down so I suspect he gained some swelling on it after the assault on his knee.

He had a scan did he not? So it’s probably just a knock that he is recovering from rather than something underlying? Klopp did say on Monday that it was a knock.
