Condolences to his family and friends. Must have been a shock for them.

Motty had such a distinctive voice and manner in describing the play. He knew the history of the game and used it during commentary as in that ‘82 WC Final. He put the current crop to shame with their non stop babble and desperation to make the game seem closer than it is.

R.I.P. Motty. Your voice will carry on whenever we hear clips from matches decades ago.
We are definitely believers and we’ve won the fucking lot!

Spent his last night in the pub with his mates watching footy.

Mate of mine has known him for years and said he was a lovely fella.

RIP Motty

How did he die? Was it a heart attack?

Poor man. At least he didn't suffer.

That's how one of my Grandads went - I met him years later when I was 6 months old apparently.

He was great, part of the trinity that will never ever be matched, Motson, Davies and Moore.
Yeah, Brian Moore was outstanding.
94 Corner to us. Last kick. Ali in the box and he’s scored

Peter Brackley was another iconic commentator. Listening to him and Ray Wilkins on Football Italia on a Sunday afternoon was superb.

I used to like David Coleman, used to keep it simple, Toshack, Keegan One Nil!

Maybe it's me looking back with rose-tinted  spectacles but back then it used to be about the game and the commentators were just there to tell a story.

I think broadcasters should go back to just the commentator, no need for any summarises. Anyway I digress...
However if something serious happens to them I will eat my own cock.

If anyone is going to put a few fingers deep into my arse it's going to be me.

He'd been at his local boozer the night before and was in good spirits according to a few. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-64759055
