... when Tranmere were bitch slapping Aston Villa 3-1 in the League Cup...

... and beating Everton in the FA Cup....

2001 Battered Everton 3-0 at Woodison, then took Southampton Who were managed by Glenn Hoddle to a replay, 3-0 down at half time in the replay, ended up winning 4-3, ended up being Glenn Hoddles last match in charge of Southampton, ended up as Spurs manager, played us in the quarters & that ended up being a tense match which we won 4-2.

Side note, late mate of mine was a staunch Tranmere fan, the Istanbul final, 3-0 down at halftime he reminded me of the Tranmere v Southampton match & keep believing, low & behold we were 3-3, 15 minutes into the second half rest is history :), sad note my mate died later that year massive heart attack. :(

No......I'm talking about the really olden days when they beat Huddersfield and Coventry to get to the 5th round of the FA Cup. About 1966??

According to Rovers website the next game v Macclesfield is on Tuesday 20th not Wednesday.

Haven't heard of a change. Hate anyone to travel on Wednesday unless it's been changed.

I used to watch them years ago on a Friday evening but still follow their results. I'm still optimistic they can finish in first place.

You’re right Tel, it’s Tuesday, edited the post, cheers!

Safe to say tonight's game hasn't gone to plan, even though it sounds like they dominated the first half. Looks like it will be the play offs again.

Sorry to hear that mate.  Me bestie is a staunch Rovers fan herself, although she also has a fondness for LFC so I can relate a little bit.  I've always had a soft spot for Tranmere and always wanted them to do well.

Wow, Macclesfield head and shoulders above. Statement win. They went 1 nil up on the stroke of half time, looks like it blew Rovers away.

I went, & Tranmere were frustrating, had some good play but final touch & pass was awful, got back into the match just after half time, then conceded soft goals, penalty was completely daft handball when there was no one near him, oh & Keeper was poor, for the stig Mig gets at times the Tranmere keeper would be getting 10 times the vitriol the goals he conceded tonight if he was playing for us, final point i thought the manager was poor, didn't make a change all night, things needed changing at 2-1, could have been 1 point behind the leaders tonight but are now 6th instead.

Was there last night. In the away end of course. Great night.

First half Macc were pumping it up the middle to Blissett (6ft 7 striker) and it wasn't working. They rode out the Tranmere pressure and nicked one before half time. Second half they used Tranmere's wide pitch to their advantage and cleared it to the wings and blew Tranmere away. I have been to almost all of Macc's games this season and that second half performance is up there with the best 45 minutes of the season. It also helped the goalkeeper had a MOTM performance.

Teams with a bit of pace will murder Tranmere and their incredibly immobile back line.

Nice comeback win for them today, much needed.  Think they'll never get top spot now but they have to make it to those next two places, 4th-7th have to play more than if you finish 2nd-3rd don't they?

Yep, the new format is 4th-7th is playoff first round, then winners of that play away against 2nd & 3rd placed teams in the playoff semi final, & those finishing 2nd & 3rd go straight into the semis & play at home over a single match.

Keeping up with a top six that all seem to be in hot form lately. Great win away at Dagenham at the weekend  ;D

Looked a proper game of two halves, could have been 2 nil down by half-time, but absolutely mullered the Daggers second half  :P

That's Tranmere, route one specialists  ;D

Eastleigh are a footballing side, playing some nice stuff. A brilliant double save by Scott Davies has kept Rovers lead intact.

Ben Tollit seems to have forgotten the offside law, well off every time but arguing with the Lino  ;D

Not a bad run-in in the last seven for Tranmere, need to win at least four of them to finish 2/3rd.

Yep need to finish 2nd or 3rd at worst, those who don't know the playoffs have a different format, teams who finish 2nd & 3rd straight to the semis, with teams finishing 4th to 7th to the first round, winners of the 4th to 7th away in the semis to the teams finishing 2nd & 3rd & the semis are one match not 2 legs.

Yeah, high-stakes gamble finishing lower than 3rd. But with four home games they should get there, though two of their games are six pointers, Dover away next week and Aldershot at home.

Big Derby tomorrow at Chester. All-ticket for Rovers fans, allocation well sold out. Chester have opened up another stand for the game.

Must-win for Tranmere and for Chester, hectic schedule now for the SWA due to the two postponed games, away at Dover and home to Solihull.

Seven games in 21 days ... could be another 5 if they don't finish 1st, 2nd or 3rd.  :o

One down, six to go  :)

Can't find official footage of the game, but got this lad's vlog, quite good actually. I felt sorry for Chester yesterday, think the crowd was around 3500 of which nearly 2000 must have been Rovers fans. Local Derby and Tranmere were merciless. Tuesday night home game is v Gateshead, same time as some other big game going on in Manchester  ;D

Game starts 5 mins in on the vlog ...

Cookie saves the day  ;D

0-2 down, but four goals from Andy Cook puts Rovers up to second place. Macclesfield won away at Borehamwood, Tranmere now the only team that can catch them - if they lose their last three and Tranmere win all their games  :P

Looking good for a decent play-off place in reality, it's just keeping all the lads fit for all the games coming up.
