He's quality on the ball has dropped off the vastly over the last two games. He's so important to our attacking play we need him firing on all cylinders.

He should start Gerrarding more often, he's got a powerful shot on him.

Gerrarding... I like it. Maybe the cross field bombs to the left-back (or vice-versa) should be christened “Trenting“

Neville was very complimentary of Trent. Called him an unbelievable talent.

At this stage he’d be stupid to say otherwise.

Deserved three assists. Just unlucky Sadio was offside.

The cross for the first goal was unbelievably brilliant.

My MoTM, literally unplayable with his delivery, could have scored  a couple tonight with a bit of luck.

Easily the best RB in the planet.

Henry Winter on Trent:

Quote
His movement is relentless, up and down the right, so much so that the West Ham United manager, David Moyes, pushed Michail Antonio out wide to try to quell the young human hurricane in the No 66 shirt. Alexander-Arnold’s speed of movement takes him away from markers, and deep into opposition territory.

His speed of thinking sets up goals like the first, looking up, spotting Wijnaldum, and putting the perfect, first-time delivery in.

This season, Alexander-Arnold has 12 assists in the Premier League, second only to De Bruyne with 16.

Since the start of last season, he has 24 assists, six more than De Bruyne and Andy Robertson in joint second.

He gave the stats boffins another busy night on the calendars and calculators, with Opta revealing that only Cesc Fàbregas (20 years 134 days) and Wayne Rooney (21 years and 63 days) have reached 25 Premier League assists at a younger age than Alexander-Arnold (21 years and 140 days).

He is up against those who start far higher up the field than him, gifted midfield passers such as Fàbregas and creative No 10s such as Rooney, and still running them close. He had 100 touches, 34 successful passes, put in 19 crosses, created six chances, had four shots and made three tackles as well as those two assists. And Liverpool really needed him at his very best.

Getting so fed up of peoples narrative of Trent being shit at defending. It just feels lazy that, because he is so good in attack, he must be shit at defending.

Can anyone point me to any mistakes he has made that led to goals or defending that led to chances?

Obviously he had an off night against Atletico but can't think of any defensive errors in that.

Even Dani Alves and Marcelo got the "great going forward can't defend" cliche for a while till people realised they were just brilliant players. Wan-Bissaka gets the reverse, because he is bang average going forward his defensive ability has been massively exaggerated, despite him committing more errors leading to goals than Trent has this season.

My only real criticism of his defending is he sometimes just let's players muscle past him too easily. It's an easy fix though if he adds a bit of muscle to his frame as he's still a slight lad.

Defenders make mistakes; that's how most goals are scored. It's part of the game.

Elite defenders make very few. Our defence make very few.

I’ve seen some clowns throwing stats around that Trent has lost the ball more than anyone this season. It’s clearly because he’s so gifted he feels he can create something everytime he gets on the ball. He tries the risky pass. He plays crosses which by their nature won’t get converted that often but when he gets it spot on they’re unstoppable.

Most right backs probably play a far higher percentage of safer, shorter passes but then again most, no all other right backs don’t clock up the number of assists that Trent does.

It’s a measure of how good he is that I felt a bit annoyed with him when he didn’t score in the first half when he had that shit from the edge of his box. By his standards that was a clear sight of goal and I thought he was going to drill it in like he did at Leicester.

''“Whereas Trent is actually running the game from full-back for his team. The best team in Europe, their playmaker is a right-back from West Derby. It’s mad, it’s strange, I’ve never seen a full-back be such an influence for his team before.”'' - Carragher on Trent

Imo I said this a while ago, Trent is the closest thing to Alves. Funny carragher mentioned Alves, but fails to realize that Alves was doing for Sevilla exactly what he says Trent is doing for us. He was the primary source of all attacking play for Sevilla before he moved to Barca.
