150 games too high for me, but my research thus far has only been names not numbers.

Not sure how limiting this is.  Nonetheless, I am sure we could find a way to negate the Maradona's of the draft (or we could make a list of questionable picks based upon consensus) and go with lower numbers like Mikey suggested.

For example,

1. Diego Maradona
2.

Everyone add one player to the list (at least one player that is infringing upon the 90's theme) and that process will inform all of our understandings through participation and collective criteria.  We do have until Monday --- so its not like we cannot find someone who played in the 90's but has no business in this draft.

16 Culled players - would work considering the experience and savvy of the current crop of all star drafters.

Or we could include this specific kind of player in the draft (like a goalkeeper) to see who could get the best/worst bench player :)  Instead of drafting 11, we draft 12 plus the douche pick masquerading as a 90's player

Imo 10 years of the 90's should be enough for most players to play 150 games

Can we count the full seasons of 89/90 and 99/00, otherwise there’s no real way of knowing how many games from those seasons were played in the 90s.

And is it just League, or Europe and domestic cups too?

Can’t wait for the first “I would have licked him but I didn’t think he was eligible” shout. Probably from me.

Should be all club games. I mean you can perhaps include national side performances if it makes you guys feel better

This would open up the door for sneaky peaks and players nowhere near their peak getting drafted. Maradona would be a prime example, but there are plenty of others I can think of. It's a difficult balancing act. 150 is harsh for sure, but it means no cheesy picks.

Fair enough. I'm up for the challenge. Maradona did play in two World Cups in the decade though. Will end up being a 1993-1996 draft if we're not careful though.

We do need to figure out what we're doing with the 1999/2000 season, are we counting the entire season or just the matches played in the calendar year of 1999? [In that case we should provide proof what games they played]

Personally, I don't think including 89/90 makes that much sense. The draft should be a celebration of 90s legends, not 80s ones who just about make it over the line on their last legs.

The issue with 100 is Maradona. People will judge him on his peak as always. One alternative is to drop to 100, but only count appearances in Europe. That way retirees can't pad out their numbers.

Don’t think that’s the case. They still have to have played 150 games in that decade (with half a season’s leeway either side).

Otherwise you need to be picking players who played pretty much 5 full seasons in a 9 year period and rules out a lot of players who had a big impact in the decade. If people make obviously dubious picks they’ll be called out for it and I’m sure people will vote against it.

That's why I'm advocating dropping the appearances, minus  outside of Europe and 89/90. Because I agree that 150 is very high, but I also don't want to see cheesy picks ruining the draft.

So are we including 89/90 and 99/00?

And does the 150 caps include internationals?

I’d recommend a yes to both. That way they’ve played a significant number of games in the decade but we don’t take too many players out of the pool.

We can also put and exclaimer on the voting saying that only be 90s versions should be considered. We can even list certain players in that like Maradona and Rush to make the point.
