He’s getting the winner on Saturday isn’t he?

He’ll be getting stretchered off if he plays from the start in that game

Welcome

I've liked what i've seen in the few times i've watched him play, tidy little midfielder with elite close control and excellent passing range

Think he'll do really well here

Arthur Melo and Stan Fabinho are quite the old name pairing in midfield.

When Jimmy Milner comes off the bench to join them we'll sound like a team managed by Walter Winterbottom.

Not to forget Nobby Keita.

I for one, welcome our 1950’s midfield of Stan, Arthur and Nobby.

This is a pretty no risk signing for us.  If he turns out to be great then we get a great midfielder for relatively cheap and if he doesn't play well then he makes up the numbers in training, plays in some cup games, and goes back to Juventus in the summer.

He doesn’t look like a full fledged starter to me, judging by his fitness history and his supposed lack of endurance. But with 5 subs, think he will be important to bring on later in games to bring stability to the midfield, he can play on the left and as a 6, which means he can fill a gap there. He looks like a great possession based player, but don’t think he will fit into the pressing style we have when we start games.

It looks like a different type of signing then what we are used to, but think he can play a sort of Origi role for us in midfield.

I hope so.
Might sound obvious but I think a lot is going to come down to basic fitness, not just not being injured. Our midfielders work hard. Despite the "otherness" of the Premier League and the pace and intensity of it I think Arthur will have certain advantages too. He's got the strong Brazilian and Portuguese speaking community already in the club to lean on both on and off the field. He's played international footie with 3 of them. He'll be a good player to have, when fit, when we want to control games. His one-touch passing and football intelligence should get him out of trouble fairly handily. On the ball I think he'll get up to speed quickly. My concern is off the ball, pressing and defending and the power and physicality he'll be facing week in week out, mind you he comes from the Gremio school of football, who, traditionally, are no strangers to power and physicality themselves. So he knows that style.
I reckon (if we had enough fit players) he would be more likely to play in Europe in the short term..
Anyway another Brazilian is good news. Get fit and don't get injured. We'll be alright.

Arthur:

“The no.29 is special to me. It was my number at my first professional team, Gremio. It brought me a lot of luck, so maybe there’s an element of superstition around the no.29. It brought me a lot of luck and hopefully the same at Liverpool.”

I think that him turning out to be a peak Gini level replacement is the realistic best case scenario. Next best scenario is he plays well enough to fill that 'fringe' first team role that the likes of Keita/Henderson/Jones have at the moment. I can't see us spending 35mil on him to fill Milner's spot.

For the short term he is filling a gap that needs filling.

For what it's worth I never had an issue with Aquilani's quality/application when he was fully fit, the problem was that he was hardly ever in that position - he was always either injured or working his way back to fitness. I think you are being a little harsh on him?

Let's say that Aquilani was a better player than 99 % of all professional footballers on the globe and a player everyone should have a lot of respect for his accomplishments in the game. You don't get to play for Roma, Liverpool, Juventus and Milan by accident. The problem is that with his talent he should've been in the top 0.1 % whenever he was fit. That was the problem - he was so talented with the eye for the pass with a really good right foot that he didn't feel the need to push himself that one bit further. Hopefully Arthur is more in the Wijnaldum manner there.

All the journos and club mouthpieces pushed the whole “we don’t do stop gaps”, “we’re patient” only to sign Arthur Melo on loan on deadline day which is the most stop-gap signing imaginable. It's so bad that we even denied having an option to buy because we have no intention whatsoever of exercising it.

Anyway, welcome Arthur. Hope you're good for the 10 or so games you'll get to play at.

No, I am saying we have no intention of activating that option to the point where we at first denied the existence of one when breeding our journos, didn't mention it during our announcement of the player and only when Juve said there was one negotiated that we actually said, "Oh yes, I forgot to mention that"
