how this monotone bore becamse a flagship commentator is beyond me.  he is actually one of the main reasons i could never bought a Fifa game in 20 years. he is incapable of broadcasting the match. god help you if you are watching a lower league match and he is commentating. if you arent familiar with the players, you will never find out who they are.

in my opinion the main criteria for a great commentator are:

- to be  reasonably knowledgeable about the game: he hasnt a clue.
-inform the viewers who has the ball: he is incapable of doing this.
-be exciting and have a good strong voice: you would wonder at times if he actually likes the sport and his monotone drones would put you to sleep.
-Be neutral: incapable of this also but being the lick arse he is, he most likely is just towing the line in this regard.

Tyler ticks none of these boxes. there are commentators at smaller stations that are far better than this fraud.

dont get me started on that moron neville. i cant for the life of me understand how an ex united player who was vocal in his hatred of Liverpool is put on commentary duty for all our games. he is as bad a co-commentator as he was a manager.  its like a child is co commentator.

Did anyone listen to BBC 5 Live last night. Kelly Cates was doing a piece on the upcoming World Cup in Qatar and had a man on who blew the whistle on migrant workers and what they were subjected to, then he went missing for 2 weeks. I only caught some of it but it sounded really good.

I've been listening to it today (haven't finished it) and yeah, it's very interesting and informative, the kind of thing I wish they did more of. It's good in that it features various interviews with Qatari officials, migrant workers and human rights advocates so you get to hear what their perspectives are.

Martin O'Neill - maybe its because we're from the same region but I find his humour class. No cliches, no buttering up ex players he just says what he thinks. Wound Micah Richards up about being on every TV and radio show he listens to, slagged Chris Sutton for being an acquired taste and admitted he had absolutely no idea why he was on the show. I know for a fact he's one of the nicest people around too. My brothers football club ran a fundraiser few years back and heard he was home, they asked him to do a talk. He agreed and didn't want a fee. They insisted he take some thing. His answer "ok, give me 20 quid"

Liam Rosenior - said it before and I know quite a few on here have, but he is so so good. The way he takes about football and puts his point across. By all accounts a great coach. Would love to see him make a big impact in the game.

totally agree.....i was wincing my way through Richards' hysterical guffawing at nothing whatsoever - and his tedious as fuck bantz with Sutton, and was about to turn off...but glad I didn't..O'Neill was great...loved him taking the piss out of Richards' media omnipresence .."I tuned into an intergalactic station from Saturn, and you were even on that"  ....Rosenior is - as you say - always very impressive (ditto his arle fella) ..both guests showed the regulars up for the slow-witted, salary-thieving planks that they are

Always enjoy listening to how he analyses strikers too and gives an idea of what they did or were trying to do. None of this "the strikers gambled" or "he's of scored that last season" line that the rest come out with time and time again

I thought the same, mate. In the game he was saying Rangers were appalling at times - though that also Celtic played superbly first half and blew them away too. You could tell it was hurting him - but the man was a pro. A large number of commentators could learn from him.
