Below is a link to a book that can be downloaded. It's illustrated with water-colours and has a well-written narrative.

If your moral compass is Piers Moron then I ask you to think whether someone who oversaw illegal phone hacking and published fake pictures depicting War Crimes is an appropriate person to look up to. In fact, I'd suggest you're a bit of a c*nt.

It certainly is  :)
Look at all that farmland that's now been built on.
Considering we had Vikings in Liverpool ( Croxteth and Toxteth are named after two Vikings ) just think how much history has been buried  :(

The conversation I’ve just had with the lad who posted them was brilliant. A few years ago I noticed sign that read Tue Brook and I’d never seen the two words separated, it’s probably been mentioned on here before, but not having lived in the city for over 40 years I didn’t know, and you can actually see Tue Brook on that pic which is now culverted. And now it makes sense!

Couple of photos, from 1956, showing some of the Welsh protesters from the Bala area of north Wales demonstrating about the threatened flooding of their community.

There are a few more in this link: https://www.peoplescollection.wales/discover/sort/date/page/4222 and a further few on the previous page - 4221.

Here are a few of Islington Street, interesting that in 1961 it looks one way going into town, cars parked facing the same way, the bus stops give it away.

Yes, it looks like one has been removed, the gap between houses is a little ominous though, it's a poor resolution pic, but looks like the houses have balconys.

Appears to be a woman stood on the top balcony. When you look at the far end, it slopes away and looks to me like that leads to a flight of steps, so I'm guessing it is a 3 storey block of flats/maisonettes rather than houses?

There is someone and also what resembles perhaps washing hanging over the balconies, and yes, they are 3 storeys.

I've been trying to find a working copy of the blitz bomb map to see if that gap was the result of a hit but am having no success. Has anyone got a decent working link?

That's an astonishing pic mate. A community absolutely devastated. Horrendous acts which people all over the world still suffer on a regular basis.

Harris gets a lot of shit from some corners about the bombing of Germany, but this shows the Germans weren't exactly arsed about precision bombing themselves. I assume their target was the railway and the canal, but they still managed to be a couple of hundred yards wide of the mark. My Grandparents on my Mums side lived in Everton and their house got hit once and another time my Grandad was home on leave and got blown up the stairs when the house opposite got hit.

Harris gets a lot of shit from some corners about the bombing of Germany...

They're almost all gone now, but from what I heard first hand from the vast majority of people who actually lived through those grim days, there wasn't exactly a lot of sympathy for the later German position and outcries that occured when we were finally in a position to retaliate in kind, that somehow the Allied bombing effort was some kind of war crime.

You only have to look on this to understand...

...and that was just the city centre and didn't show all the other areas of utter devastation around the dock areas.

Harris had his faults, and was very much of his time and by modern sensibilities was brutal, but his reap the whirlwind was probably spot on as an expression of the widespread feeling for the era.

Shocking scenes.

I never knew my Grandads, they both died early, one from cancer in 1958 and the other of a heart attack in 61, both served North Africa and I would have loved to have heard their tales of what it was like, especially with families back home. I never thought to ask my Nans what it was like in Liverpool, I know my Mums Mum and a couple of my Aunties just missed getting killed when the house got hit wthin a minute or so of them leaving it and my Grandad just escaped in a bombing as I said above, but I know she was terrified of thunder and hid in cupboards, never understood until someone on here mentioned the bombing, she obviously flashed back to the war. From comments my Mum made, I do think the attitude from her Mum was the Germans got what they deserved.

My sister in laws fella was friends with a Lancaster pilot, he passed away recently. He had the pleasure of dropping bombs on Hitlers Eagles nest, I'll have to ask later if it was ever discussed on how the pilots felt about the missions over Germany, it is almost certain that he was involved in the raids on Cologne and Dresden. I can fully understood Harris's position, given what was going on at the time, Germany had devastated British cities, morale was low, so giving them a taste of their own medicine was probably the right thing to do.

Liverpool Blitz Exhibition - Some good photos on there, a big hole in Walton Prison and of course the terrible Durning Road attack of November 1940

Tom Murphy's blitz sculpture is a superb memorial if you're in town (in the Garden of St. Nick's)

Found another site with some very informative stuff..especially for those who may be doing a family tree or even curiosity living in a street with war damage.
The road i live in..most of the houses were damaged including my own, when i was converting my loft i found a lot of charred joists & a lot that were joined to another that wasn't replaced, the stairwell area was the worst.
5 doors down from me on the i found out there was a casualty from a bombing..links below.

http://www.liverpoolmonuments.co.uk/index.html

http://www.liverpoolmonuments.co.uk/warmemorials/wardead1940.htm

http://www.liverpoolmonuments.co.uk/warmemorials/bootle.htm

The ones that stick out is when the Co-Op shelter on Stanley road took a direct hit, without researching i think the site is where the Lidl is located now. The other being many casualties at Brocklebank dock, will have to look into that but i assume that was where the ship loaded with munitions was hit.
