I like Can, never understood the hate, but I think Fabinho is much better.
In 50/50 duels Can was always very strong, but his problem was getting there on time. Fabinho reads the game better than Can, which gives him a lot of easy ball wins (Lucas was a master of this btw).

What I really love about Fabinho is how quickly he transitions from defense to attack. When you win the ball, the opponent is vulnerable (especially with pacy attackers like we have). Fabinho is great at quickly finding dangerous open spaces and pinging the ball there. This ability reminds me of Xabi, although Xabi's precision was superhuman. All our other midfielders, Can, Hendo and Gini, need much more time and space to do this, and that extra second means a lot for our attackers.

He's also better against low defenses, simply because he's got great passing skills.

Passing % is a uselss stat IMO. It's incredibly easy to get high numbers simply by playing safe.

I remember the Utd fans crowing on that they got Fred and we only got Fabinho. Well I don’t hear much crowing now from them. Fabinho took a while to settle but he has now shown that he was a bargain.....some great performances.

Quote

Jürgen Klopp has explained Fabinho is 'OK' after the Liverpool midfielder was involved in a clash of heads at Cardiff City on Sunday.

The Brazilian had to be taken off just four minutes after coming on as a substitute himself during the 2-0 victory in Wales.

“It was very unlucky. Fabinho is OK but he had a bit of shaky legs and that’s of course not a good sign in the moment,” Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com.

“It’s a 100 per cent ‘yes’ or go off; if it’s 95 per cent in that game in that position, we cannot make that decision [to stay on]. It’s all good.”

Very good news indeed. I'd expect him to be back in training ahead of Huddersfield by the sounds of it. Given he says Fab is OK, I doubt it was even the slightest of concussions, probably just a bit of post-impact nausea. The right decision to take him off, but great to hear that he's alright. Evidently, Fab felt good enough to play on, so hopefully he won't miss any games.

Players high fived each other, missed and he got poked in the eye in the process and had to come off.

"It was not the defeat that was so worrying, for at the very least Liverpool were worthy of a draw, but the dismissal of Emlyn Hughes after only 16 minutes was a tragedy. Because Hughes was carried off on a stretcher. most people did not realise he had been sent off although the fact that substitute Geoff Strong was waved back by the referee was confirmation enough that the player had come under the referee's ban. I saw the referee point ominously to the touchline as Hughes fell to the ground after a clash with Overath, one of Cologne's liveliest and most persistent raiders. It seemed to me that Overath went over the ball and kicked Hughes on the shin. If retaliation there was by Hughes, I did not see it, although some people maintained that as he fell. Hughes did retaliate. In fact the referee said afterwards: "Hughes was sent off for kicking in retaliation after being fouled."

Thought he was good vs Barca, but with that said, we controlled Messi except for two times. The second goal where he got space in the center and the situation for the freekick. Two goals. So not sure how good we can actually claim he was.

I thought he was excellent and that foul he made on Messi for the freekick was a clever one. But then, it's Messi. I think you have to accept how good the opponents are sometimes.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

Surprised by the comments here. I was supporting him back in October when others were doubting him, but tonight wasn't his night in my view. Busquets got the better of him in quite a few aerial duels and his positioning in front of the defence was a little all over the place. I'm sure some of that was tactical though - he had a very tough job in there and wasn't poor by any means. But he wasn't great or even good either.

He'll learn a lot from that game though, as they all will.
