And yet we bought him, so your own personal views aside he needs to get an opportunity. He may turn out shit, I'm not saying he will or he won't. But with Mane out he's the only guy who has a few of the similar attributes that could be replicated in our system.

We've got Salah this season to provide the loss of Mane - with his pace, skills, directness & goals.

Last season Coutinho, Firmino and Mane were great when together.

I'm sure Coutinho, Firmino and Salah will be more than fine.

I don't see the need for Ox in the front three or think he's the right person for the role.  He has pace, but he doesn't make the right runs for the role.  He's better deeper as the play maker.  Look at the stats Babu showed last season, he's extremely creative, just not a goal threat.

He runs at defenders and takes players on. I'd say it was the only thing he was good at at Arsenal. Surely there's no disputing he has pace on and off the ball?
I'd accept he has some pace but skill and directness? Not a chance.

As I've said in a few previous posts in the last 30 minutes the other option is bring Coutinho forwards which works too, but I'd personally rather see him centrally I think he influences the game better there. I can see why we'd do that though especially for this game where we might want a more solid midfield defensively.

Not based on his time at Liverpool, based on his time at Arsenal and his England appearances. Still no idea why we bought him.

Give it a rest eh ?   Give the fella a chance he's only been here 5 minutes, Klopp rates him highly, so does Wenger, so have the last few England managers. So did Conti. Klopp has said it will take him time to get to where he wants him to be. Anybody can see theres something there, and anybody can see we have the man to bring that something to the party.
Personally I think he;s a cracking player and I'm delighted  he's here

Obviously, not sure you could call someone with his end product direct.

So for the forseeable future we get Can, Henderson and Wijnaldum in midfield? Yay.

Depends on your definition of direct doesn't it though ?, For me direct is someone who is happy to go at people, going forward as much as possible with the ball. Ox very much falls into that category for me. I'd call him a direct player. Thanks

I think you can be direct without having a decent end product. What I'm saying is he's a guy that (tries) to play at speed, get to the byline, beat a man, get his shot away. I think he's got a poor end product at the end of it, sadly. The hope is that will come as he matures.

Can needs an unmerciful boot up the cheeks and quick. He's just what we need against Utd in the middle, as in the one that plays for Germany not the one we've seen lately.

That's percentage won though. It's easy to have a high percentage if you don't challenge for many. How many actual aerial duels do they win compared to say Lovren who I'd say is our best header of the ball?

Matip is poor in the air, often loses the flight of the ball so doesn't even challenge for the header, Can is pretty similar and was caught out a number of times when he played in defence under Rodgers. Gomez is a bit more of an unknown.

Depends on the injury mate. He could be running with no twisting, sprinting, contact, he could be doing that weeks before getting to the real stuff. could be really doing with him though thats for sure

They all need a boot in the ass. I really dont like them 3 together as they are pretty ponderous going forward and poor defensively. If Oxlade-Chamberlain was in any form id just replace Mane with him, just to ensure we are not punished by seeing them together.

Just try and blow them away. Trying to play a tactical game or a balanced game against these and we won't win. Just do what we do best and try blow them away in the opening 20.

I agree. Utd will make it physical though, and while we need to impose our own game of course, having someone to give it out would help in the middle. Can can do that, when he really wants to. Bit of good PR work by the club, put it out Juve are there watching him and we're in business

There is nothing to suggest that them 3 do anything to help our physicality. I would say Coutinho is more physical than some of them.

I know, that's why I'm saying Can is ideal because the other 2 are not physical but Can has it in him. Actually I wonder if we might see Coutinho central and Ox on the left.

For what it's worth I think we needed to drop one of Mane or Salah anyway, playing them both at once clearly wasn't working, our attack is incredibly wasteful compared to this time last season when we played with only one pacy winger.

It looked nice against Hoffenheim and Arsenal but we've been woeful since then.
Then in the midddle out pops a smiling glen johnson pulling up his jersey to reveal a t-shirt of suarez with a text saying. "OUR SUAREZ IS A FRIEND TO ALL COLOURS!"
