For the music draft, are we assuming the artist we pick is at their peak and won't be doing shitty material from their latest album that didn't sell?

Good question. I was thinking about this yesterday. I think either people could pick a best era for their musician/band or we could just go with a 'best of' scenario.

'Best of' makes sense....the shitty material from an artist's latest album shouldn't taint their other songs. Plus it's all subjective anyway, one person's 'shitty material' could be someone else's favourite song :D

Sound. That all makes good sense.

I reckon it might be good to set up a new thread to drum up interest now, as not everyone will check in here. Any thoughts on the name for the draft?

Maybe something like 'Ultimate Music Draft' is nice and simple. Could also add in the word 'live' to push that it's not just a hits draft.

I wonder if a few categories might be inserted to make it widely digestible and give it a small element of consistency so you can loosely compare.

Something along the lines of "a band that has had a 10m selling album" "a solo artist" "a girl group/singer" "has released an album since 2000"

That sounds good. I'm interested but would probably want to team up with someone for this.

Like an old NME ad, influences include Cradle of Filth, Gorky's Zygotic Mynci and Shampoo.

We could do a 'run your own TV channel' draft not unlike the film one. I also might run a second comic book draft.

We could do that book draft, but we should eliminate voting, because the voting in these is always fucked  :P

Something like 8 books per person. Including at least:

1 non-fiction (any topic)
1 historical fiction/non-fiction
1 sci-fi/fantasy/horror series or standalone
1 crime/mystery
1 classic/canon

Floated this one before, no harm in proposing it again:

The Cabinet Draft

Create a cabinet consisting of:
-   1 Prime Minister/President/King/Queen/Supreme Leader
-   1 Minister of Economy
-   1 Minister of Science
-   1 Foreign Minister
-   1 Minister of Defence/War
-   A few more categories I haven’t thought about yet

But the idea is that instead of making it a super boring political draft, you could pick any person from history. So you could have Klopp as Supreme Leader, Einstein as Minister of Science, Alexander the Great as Minister of War and so on.

Time to get this moving I reckon.....

Here's the vast majority of our current cabinet, I've split it into those I'd suggest we draft on and those we leave out..

In The Draft
Prime Minister
Chancellor of the Exchequer
Secretary of State for Defence
Secretary of State for Education
Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs
Secretary of State for Health
Secretary of State for Justice
Secretary of State for Transport

Out of The Draft
Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy
Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government
Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport
Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union
Secretary of State for International Development
Secretary of State for International Trade
Secretary of State for the Home Department
Secretary of State for Work and Pensions

That would be 8 pics in total, more than enough. I'm also assuming we'd only pick real people? No fictional characters or people's alter egos?

Happy to run this if there’s enough interest.

The idea would be to make it more of a “Great Persons” draft rather than strictly political, so I wouldn’t stay too close to the make-up of the actual cabinet as it is in real life. Picking a Secretary of State for Transport would be boring as fuck ;D

Instead I’d have 8 Ministries which loosely correspond to subject areas where we can pick great people from history. So you’d have a Ministry of Defence/War, where you might want to pick a great general from history. You could have great artists/musicians in the Ministry of Culture, great scientists in the Ministry of Science, great diplomats in the Foreign Ministry, great sportsmen in the Ministry of Sport and so on.

The aim would be to create a cabinet that can lead your nation to glory :D We can have write-ups explaining why you’ve picked each Minister, what their role would be, how they’d shape your nation etc.

Regarding eligibility, I’d say we can pick anyone who we believe to have existed to a reasonable degree of scientific certainty. So no fictional characters, no alter egos, no myths and no legends. There’s bound to be a gray area, so any contentious picks can be discussed in the thread and hopefully we’ll reach a consensus.

One area which might be a bit touchy is religious figures. To avoid arguments I’d suggest that people are allowed to pick religious figures, but without relying on religious scriptures as evidence. So you could pick Jesus, but you’d be getting Jesus of Nazareth who gave teachings on Christianty, rather than Jesus as he appears in the Bible.

Book draft's tricky because it takes a lot longer to get through a book than a film, so you're going to have too many choices where people can't make an informed decision because they haven't read it.

Personally, my choice would be the opposite of this one: a hate figure thread. Your six least favourite public figures on earth, to be marooned on a desert island together.
