Two Little Boys
« on: May 26, 2004, 02:19:00 pm »
I don’t really know what made me write this, probably just a few memories during a sleepless night, but see what you think. A new Red song to the tune of Two Little Boys:

Two young reds, both in their beds, dreaming of Hunt and Yeats
Next day in school, they’d both drool at these two football greats.
Saturday came, they both went the game, Wembley in ‘65
Liverpool scored, the crowd applaud, and the lads both saw it live.

Chorus
If you think that I’d let you see us, win the cup by yourself, you’re wrong.
I’m always there next to you, when we sing our Liverpool song.
Our leader “Shanks” is our hero, we’ll walk on through the wind and rain.
And side by side we’ll be standing, when we win this trophy again.

12 months passed, Shanks had the cast, to win again Division 1.
Liverpool were, as strong as before, with Cally; Milne; St John.
Chelsea came, story’s the same, win the league in front of the Kop
Both lads cried, as they realised, that we were the cream of the crop.

In 73, the lads eagerly, went to all the games that year.
Side by side, they’d not be defied, as the Reds had no-one to fear.
The league came again, but used to it then, they had a double within their sight
Over the sea, and in Germany, the UEFA Cup was won that night.

Four years on, Shankly was gone, but they’d seen more success with Bob.
The quiet man saw, want went before, and he got right on with the job.
Now 23 and loyally, both the lads made their way to Rome,
Smith and Neal, showed their appeal, to bring the European Cup home.

Chorus
If you think that I’d let you see us, win the cup by yourself, you’re wrong.
I’m always there next to you, when we sing our Liverpool song.
Our leader “Bob” is our hero, we’ll walk on through the wind and rain.
And side by side we’ll be standing, when we win this trophy again.

Both lads knew, from their point of view, they had seen all there was to win.
League Cup aside, they’d stood with pride, knowing we were the best there’d been.
Bob thought “right”, “we won’t take it light”, and we’ll win that trophy too.
At Villa Park, floodlit in the dark, that’s exactly what we do.

To 84, the man they adore, has decided to call it a day.
Joe stepped in, as he was akin, to the Liverpool winning way.
Paul and John’s glee, as Joe won all three, that first treble became folklore.
And they were there, punching the air, as they’d always done before.

Chorus
If you think that I’d let you see us, win the cup by yourself, you’re wrong.
I’m always there next to you, when we sing our Liverpool song.
Our leader “Joe” is our hero, we’ll walk on through the wind and rain.
And side by side we’ll be standing, when we win this trophy again.

Dalglish came and things stayed the same, with the best football side around.
Things went great, for Paul and his mate, till we played at the Hillsborough ground.
Policemen froze, a barrier goes, and our fans are in awful strife.
John did his best, along with the rest, but they couldn’t save Paul’s life.

Chorus
If you think that I’d let you see us, win the cup by yourself, you’re wrong.
I am still stood right by you, when you sing our Liverpool song.
I’ve got Shanks, Joe and Bob beside me, we’re all there away and home.
And all of Heaven is singing, “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.

Really good work.

With a bit of a polish in a few of the rough spots, you could actually see this getting turned into a charidee record or something.

Though I recommend you keep your writer's royalties for yourself ;)

A good interpretation and association of the Lyrics and Tune mate! :thumbup

The original recorded release was indeed by Rolf Harris, this song is based in Victorian times. It was actually an allegory based on the Crimean War and the charge of the Light Brigade - 'Into The Valley of Death Charged The Six Hundred'.

Poignant, to say the least.

The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance.
