Marcus Thuram would cost well more than Sarr. Gladbach have CL football next year and he'd cost well more than £30m

Depends on Wolfburg's finances at this point in time. In any case it's unlikely, but Sarr is far too raw to be playing for us right now.

Which is why being able to play a second position would be a plus for anybody we bring in as 4th choice CB. And the position we need cover in is LB. So i guy who plays both is perfect for our squad. Whether is be Kelly or somebody else.

It sounds nice but in reality I doubt a full back who's hopeless with the ball will be much fun. I'd rather just sign a more suitable player.

If Lloyd Kelly is that bad on the ball, why were we ever interested in him as a left-back option?

Not interested enough to bother trying to sign him though. You are desperately clinging to hope but I think you are going to be disappointed this summer.

Maybe people are nostalgic for the days of Sakho playing LB

He's worth more than £30M, if you look at his profile he's pretty unique-

6'3" can play across any of the wide positions, very quick, great in the air, excellent dribbler, 14 goals & 8 assists last season- (what exactly it not to like about him?)

does make me think what our french scouts were doing that he wasn't snapped up for €12M last year

I'm open minded to signing a LB rather than desperately clinging to hope that it will be Lloyd Kelly, I would just like us to strengthen there, but if he was hopeless on the ball he would have never been on our radar.

Bournemouth steamed in with an offer that was bigger than we were prepared to pay at the time, but he was a player that we were reliably reported to be interested in, so he must have had something going for him as a LB.

Thuram would be great business and probably my first choice I do however disagree about Sarr, if we get him he will improve alot under Klopp, he's got enough qualities to cause teams problems- yes he is not the finished article but that also makes him a perfect profile as he will accept he needs to learn, if we smoothen out his raw edges and his stats improve he becomes a £100M+ player

Marcos Thuram imo would be a better choice given the money may be similar.
He looks just as raw as Sarr. I think Div is better than both.

If he isn't good enough with the ball, why bring him in the first place instead of playing Milner?

Is the expectation we will sign a specialist player to cover for every position? we might be but I'd be surprised given that to cover for 4th choice center back and second or third choice left back would make 2 additions, therefore if we are signing someone who can cover both spots you'd want someone that can do a serviceable job in both rather than world class at both; if he's a centre back then I'd want someone who is good in the air (which Kelly is), if he is good at dribbling and can put in a decent cross (which he can) then perhaps that is good enough for left back, I haven't seen enough evidence to suggest his passing is abysmal, playing in a team that's relegated can make even very good players look poor, Gini and Robertson were not earning rave reviews at their respective clubs either.

So in short, whoever we sign will be joining to cover first and foremost, if the player can cover 2 positions then we can have more options on the bench/in the squad to make changes and in general Klopp favours having a smaller squad which lends itself to this type of approach

avoiding Mino Raiola players?

But really, he took the logical step. Last season was a ‘break out’ season for him, and we will see how he gets on next season with another step up with CL to add to the load.

To be fair to our scouting team they aint half helped assemble a fantastic side, can forgive them for possibly missing the odd player or two.

Yeah, our scouts' record has been pretty much perfect the past 3-4 seasons, really no need to hold not signing a forward with something like 10 league goals in his career against them.

Sure, but replacing a creative player like Robertson with someone who is presumably not really good going forward. I think the Saka link made more sense, because he's a fullback/forward rather than fullback/defender. Maybe if we could get a top class defender, but for Kelly, I'm not certain

This is probably unlikely to be the case

If he is a CB, that can only do a reasonable job at lb, then he probably wouldn't play at lb ahead of Milner, maybe even williams

If he is a lb, that can only do a reasonable job at cb, then he probably wouldn't play at cb ahead of fabinho or one of our youngsters.

In either case he is very unlikely to break into the 1st team, so you are better off persisting with the existing options in the squad. Any cb/lb that we sign is likely to end up a waste of transfer fee/wages and opportunities for existing youth prospects. Better off saving money for a front 3 signing, failing that I'd rather we sign no one

If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

The other is our first XI is so set in stone it would be very difficult for a new signing to see how they’d get game time ,which would no doubt put top players off signing.
Transfer and wage cost aside, Werner would have been a good fit here. I know how even the most team-oriented players can be protective of their playing time. But dividing the Premier League and Champions League minutes among 4 would have kept everyone fresher next season, without any drop off in talent. None of the 4 would have been thrilled with having slightly reduced minutes but it would have been a very sensible football move. It's too bad that the financial aspect couldn't be worked out.

Completely forgot he was signed from Monaco...

There's also Origi and Fekir was a medical away from signing. How many players from Ligue 1 have broken through in the PL recently? Can't remember a lot of the off the top of my head, Ndombele and Pepe are the two obvious big money flops (though I think Pepe will come good), Saint-Maximin is decent, Kante and Mahrez were the ones all scouts should've spotted.
