Looking forward to the launch purely because im interested with what they have come up with. Insiders claiming Jobs is as happy with this as he was with the iphone so it must be mighty impressive.

If it was any other show ripping the piss that might have been funny. The fact it's the Simpsons, who have long ago disappeared up their own arse.....mildly amusing.....i guess.

The hybrid tablet/netbook from Lenovo sounds better.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/-5DYuVN6nuY&amp;hl=en_GB&amp;fs=1&amp;hd=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="bbc_link bbc_flash_disabled new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/-5DYuVN6nuY&amp;hl=en_GB&amp;fs=1&amp;hd=1</a>

That looks fucking boss. I'd have one of those in a flash. If it weren't 3x the price of a normal netbook :(

"No you cannot fucking well have a stylus Wacko you twat"

I want one tied on a string, hanging from my Apple Tablet/iSlate/Canvas/whatever.

Anyone honestly thinking about buying one?

Nope. Hard to justify if you already have an iPhone. Unless it gives blowjobs, or I suddenly decide I want to write Apple Tablet apps for a living, I certainly won't be buying the first gen one.

Is this the Newton finally updated?

Twenty! years ago now, a mate of mine had one. It never lived up to it's billing, handwriting recognition was a joke.

The demo was quite impressive though; They had one around Tokyo and took a picture (with the onboard camera) of some graffiti in Japanese. Extracted the graffiti characters from the image and translated it into English.

that lenovo is the only way i'd get a tablet

then again i'd not pay the premium since it basically has two processors in the intel and snapdragon parts

i wonder can it use the snapdragon to improve the intel processors, like offload tasks to it

I can't use netbooks for any length of time, typing is a nightmare. I'm sure they're good for browsing and the like if you have an external mouse..just not for me.

Notice how laggy that Lenovo was when dragging?

Doubtful: it's an ARM processor running Linux and the x86 Intel part runs Windows. Even if you ran, say, Java on the Snapdragon, it's so puny compared to the Core 2 Duo, it'd make no noticeable difference given the cycles you'd waste getting the processors to co-operate. It'd be good if you could, though, as it's a lot more power-efficient than the Core 2. I guess the laptop card has hardware HD video decoding, so you wouldn't even need the Snapdragon for that. Perhaps they can use its RAM for the video card.

Handwriting and voice recognition still are shite. Funny how little progress has been made on it. Computers (or is it computer scientists) are still too dumb to get to grips with un-aided input.

Machine translation looks no closer than ever. All they can do is produce the same gobbledegook much faster.

it would be a waste if you couldn't utilize them both, you're 100% about hardware HD playback since the core 2 processor it will have probably couldn't even handle it well

it would be nice if you could have say your skype, IM, itunes (or linux equivalent) etc running on snapdragon so if you unplug it they will continue to run, how you would get them to run at the same time as windows7 i have no clue, i doubt it's even possible

There is that. Also, I have a phone book full of foreign names.

It's all I can do to get my iPhone to call the right person; it appears to pick which number it calls at random. When asking it to play music, I consider it to have to well if it plays something that starts with a similar-sounding letter.

I suppose you could use something like VNC or Remote Desktop. What would be really nice would be if you could leave the notebook running on the table, plugged in, and just take the screen with you. You couldn't watch movies that way, but you could easily run Photoshop or other CPU-hogs, and surfing would be much snappier than rendering with a smartphone processor.

There must be some kind of connection between the two parts, anyway, to copy files back and forth between them.

there's some link since it knows to switch OS, though thats probably just flicking the input for the screen, win7 is probably running away on the keyboard half all the time in hibernate mode and they've optimised it to wake quickly

for people running processor intensive stuff it would be superb, the use you suggest would appeal to a lot of people as they'd not have to buy two laptops but could use one instead, start photoshop doing a job, unplug the screen, maybe set growl to tell you the job is done etc, actually it would be nice if they integrated something like growl into it so you could at least get notifications of what's going on on the other part of your machine

i suspect you're going to have to open all your apps when you dock it or separate it each time, you can probably leave them running if it goes to sleep and then reactivate them when you wake the part you're using, all it would take is for them to work something into the code to wake up the apps that don't do it themselves

You'd just have Remote Desktop running on the tablet. Keep it simple. Doesn't Win 7 have tablet/touchscreen features built-in?

The more I think about it, the more certain I am that someone will have VNC running on it in short order.

I reckon the notebook may keep running when you pull out the tablet. I mean, if it can drive an external monitor, you can use it/them as a computer and a tablet at the same time. Or the tablet as a second screen. Or a touchscreen interface. Man you could do so many things with a platform like that.

It'd be a lot nicer if they both ran the same OS, though.

Come to think of it, you'll probably be able to use the Apple tablet like a poor man's Optimus Maximus/Snatch's big brother. That's almost a killer gimmick.

It is very effective as a duvet cover. It covers the duvet superbly well (as reviewers have confirmed). After you buy it, you don't have
to look at the boring whiteness of the duvet because it is, well, covered.

But it is not as powerful as a MacBook - although it should be noted MacBooks do a lousy job as pillow covers before you even get to the health and safety issues.
