This game is all about composure and finishing. We'll exploit their high line and have a lot of chances - make most if it and it should be enough to get a win.

Fairly confident our defence can keep them quiet. We have been playing well defensively in the last two games - though Spurs will definitely test us much more.

Confident within reason.
Should be a good game.

Of course as a realist you have to understand that a 7-0 away win can't happen every game. But that's OK, I'm absolutely fine with just sticking 6 past Spurs.

Agreed, this is a must win.

Half the spurs side that will play on Sunday didn't play last night...how many of the Liverpool side from last night will play Sunday?

As both teams will have four days to recover and train I don't think any player will be tired.

Spurs are lucky Mane is out. He absolutely demolished them at the Home fixture last season. Hopefully Salah has a similar game this time around. Another clean sheet would be nice.

Inclined to agree with this. Biggest difference between Wembley and WH Lane (aside from one being utterly shite and the other a nice atmospheric old stadium) is the size of the pitch. If we're at it physically, we will have much more space to be able to exploit them. They can't remain as compact as they were at WH Lane. I would hope our team is fresher, and our attack should cover more ground than their defence, so let's just hope we have our finishing boots on (because Kane and Alli will).

Had a look online...

Wembley: 105 x 69
WHL: 100 x 67

That doesn’t seem a lot. Would that make much difference?

Very interesting OP, thanks.

Should be fun, expecting a win, think there's enough in midfield regardless of the combinations, personally would go with starting team vs Utd.

Yes, that is a huge difference. It's surprising how much of a difference a few yards make with regards to finding space.

That's an extra 545 square metres, or near half the size of an Olympic size swimming pool. It's a bigger difference than those numbers make it seem.

The aggregate score over the last 5 years must be huge.

Not sure what to expect, we had a good run of games against City as well before our defeat to them. I'm sure we will be up for it, and have enough days to recover. Midfield is key for us.

What a big miss Mane will be. Spurs were shit scared of him last season. I don't even know how we did not win the match at WHL.

I hope we let Oxlade replace him. Keep Phil in midfield. A midfield of Phil, Emre & Gini can compete well enough. We do need the pace to break the super high line that they will play. Especially in Wembley.

Anyway this will be a preview of the UCL Final this year. I have a feeling both this team will make to the final.

Given Tottenham's 1-1 victory at the Bernabeu they'll be confident going into this game. We should also be confident after thrashing Maribor 7-0. Yes, Maribor aren't anything special but they are a decent football team and we made them look terrible. Remember the last time in the Champions League when we had a similarly unknown and unthreatening team in Ludogorets? We drew 2-2 away and needed a last minute goal to beat them at Anfield. If you beat a team 7-0 in the Champions League and that 7-0 result was rather flattering to the opposition then you have to be confident and full of hope going into a big game the following matchday.

The obvious threat from Spurs is Kane. He has a robotic knack of scoring goals. He's good in the air, he can shoot from outside the box, he can get in behind and go one-v-one. You can't double team him either because you don't want to be leaving space to Alli or Eriksen. I do think there is a mental weakness in this Spurs side though at key moments and considering many think this team could be special and be a threat in Europe they have yet to actually win a thing. Pochettino, the new King and Tottenham's supposed manager for the next decade or more has yet to win a trophy himself either. The brown-nosing that goes on with Spurs is hilarious to me if somewhat understandable given they are a London club with English players regularly playing for them and they have Wembley as their temporary home before they move into their new stadium.

I think our front 3 pick themselves; I can't see Oxlade-Chamberlain going as part of the front three and Phil dropping deeper. I don't know whether Henderson was rested or dropped the other night so it will be interesting to see if he or Emre Can operate as the 6. Milner played really well and he deserves to keep his place and Oxlade-Chamberlain's pace and athleticism might come in handy on a big pitch against a mobile and high-energy Tottenham side. I think we need at least one pacey option off the bench though, so unless Klopp goes gung-ho from the outset I think we'll see Oxlade-Chamberlain introduced against a tired defence like he was against United.

I'm gutted Mane is missing for this but Salah is in electric form and he'll get in behind them I'm sure given that Pochettino likes playing a high line against us and doesn't seem to want to chance his philosophy even when it hasn't worked well against us in the past. We both played away on Tuesday but their game was surely more taxing on the legs and I think we have a slight advantage in that regard. I fancy us to get the job done, win this and we're only a point behind this lot and our season can really get going. Let's not forget, this will be our ninth game and we've already faced Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, Leicester away which is never easy and we've also faced a high-flying Watford. Now we face Tottenham at Wembley. That is a tough start and enough hasn't been made of it. Yes, you don't want to make excuses and you play everyone twice but given our off-field distractions and injuries and suspensions to key players we're not in a bad position at all.

I fancy a 3-1 win to the redmen.

Not wanting to be the bearer of reality but some over confidence here after a couple of good games!

It's the defence issue here for me. Spuds are playing well and they've beaten Dortmund at home - a team that still has elements of Klopp football.

Defensively they are a lot better than us but they don't defend the low block as well as others.

Think we could sneak it but I can also see another cagey 0 - 0.

Difference in size of the pitches between WHL and Wembley is over 500 sq metres. That means the Wembley pitch is just under 10% bigger than WHL.

I have no idea if that makes much difference to us or them but I would say that the difference in pitch size isn't that marginal.

Big shame Mane is out for this one, I reckon he would have had a party on the wing here. Still feeling quietly confident but Spurs are obviously no mugs and not to be taken lightly.

I'd quite like to see the same team we put out on Tuesday and just swap the keepers but I can't see any way Henderson doesn't start this, he always has a good game against these.

Another 7-0 away win please, Reds.

Nah, bollocks to that. In Mané's absence we need Phil's composure in the final third. He also helps give us an extra man in midfield by dropping in.

* Wembley is the standard 105 x 68

see page 36 in the PL handbook https://www.premierleague.com/publications

I had the same impression that it was 105 x 69 due to all the news articles in the summer.

Agreed, and when you play a high line (and we have pace from Salah) those extra few metres go even further.

Just anecdotally, I feel pitch size does make a lot of difference though it's hard to quantify. Going to new grounds like the Emirates and Wembley you immediately notice that it seems more vast than the likes of WHL and Anfield, and it seems really different (without being able to explain why necessarily).

If what you're saying is correct then that's nearly 6,000 sq ft. There's no way Wembley is that much bigger than WHL.

If what you're saying is correct then that's nearly 6,000 sq ft. There's no way Wembley is that much bigger than WHL.

But it is

The pitch
The pitch at White Hart Lane was one of the tightest in the Premier League, measuring 100 x 67 metres (or 6,700 square meters). For context, Stoke City’s pitch was the only one smaller in the top-flight in 2016-17, measuring 6,400 square metres.

Wembley’s pitch, on the other hand, is colossal in terms of its size, measuring 105 x 69 metres and 7,245 square metres in total, which would make it the second-largest pitch in the Premier League last season, behind Hull City’s pitch that caters for rugby league as well as football.

Anyone think we'll see anything different to this:

Gomez  Matip Movren Moreno
                Henderson
           Wijnaldam   Can
Salah          Firmino       Coutinho

It's going to be a tight ,battle of a game - hopefully Dembele isn't fit for them because without him they'll struggle against us in midfield

I too thought it was 105 x 69 due to all the newspaper stating this but both Wembley Stadium and PL handbook say 105 x 68.
