I know most don't make it bla bla bla. But what I like about him is that he is producing steady goals and assists for the u23, and fck me if he didn't need only 24 minutes to produce at senior level. That makes me excited.

Seen the nickname "Benny Bonfire" pop up on twitter and I must say I like it.

Anyway, extremely excited about the lad. If we draw Hull in the semi-final I see no reason not to throw him into the fire and giving him his first start. I really wanna see what he can do against some premier league opposition.
Got to love the Klopp

Really hope his teachers let him off for his homework this evening.  Be terrible for the lad if he had to go home and write an essay on Keats's poetry or some shit.

Well taken goal, perfect start to his career here.  Expect him to be on the fringes of the first team unless everyone is fit and then to start making more appearances next season.  Definitely grown in height over the past year or so too, he looked much more diminutive in the youth teams last season.
Sit down, shock is better taken with bent knees.

I'm from Wales and one of my mates from back home has seen Woodburn play for the Welsh youth teams.  He posted on FB last night that Liverpool fans (he supports United) should keep an eye out for him if he gets on, as he's a special talent.

He's got that ice-cold finishing ability that stood Michael Owen apart at a similar age. He looks a real prospect.

I have not seen enough of Woodburn to box him into the type of player he might be / become. I do not not know what his stand out qualities are. He does not seem to be blessed with speed in the same way it was noticeable with Owen. I do, however, think you are spot on with his finishing ability. He has that speed of thought and it would appear clinical finishing and positioning that only the really good strikers have. An ingredient true strikers are born with as opposed to the general manufactured players that have put the hours in.

It's probably because if someone really hoped they were wrong the wouldn't say anything, they'd just push their doubts to the back of their mind and try to ignore it.

Jesus Christ so did the row of press photographers sat near me along the front of the KOP.

Every single one of them bar none had the image of Woodburn running at the KOP up on their laptops. They were fighting over the spare Ethernet cables to get it uploaded to Reuters or wherever.

Photographers dream that was.

just a long row of lappy's with the Image of Woodburn doing a Tardelli :)

As Klopp alluded to, the only downside is everyone hyping him up way too much. He mentioned the media, but fans are just as prone to going overboard. I'm betting the majority hadn't even heard of him before last summer...

It's great to get excited & for the wider fan-base to get a glimpse of some of the talent we have in the academy, but too much attention can't be good for any young player for a number of reasons.

Don't get me wrong though, I loved it :)

I'll give you Powys is right in the middle of Wales, Rushie came from Fflint, in Wales, and if anything is on steroids it's that great, big castle commanding the Conwy valley and the the approaches to Snowdonia. ;)

Want to read the Joyce one in the times but it's behind the paywall unfortunately.

Here are some snippets:

Woodburn’s promise already stretches overseas with the sight of Barcelona and Espanyol coaches in thrall to the forward one of the abiding memories his former school-teacher has of a player now making others sit up and take note of his talent.

Mark Lindley, Head of PE at Bishop Heber High School in Malpas, Cheshire, recalled Woodburn’s impact on a tour to Spain and said: “We went to Barcelona when Ben was 12. He was playing up a year, he came on in a game and scored a 30-yard free kick.

“But the main moment from that tour was when we were getting coached by Espanyol and Barcelona and the Espanyol coaches were trying to tap him up really. They absolutely thought he was fantastic, his skill level was amazing and you could see the coaches all around him were thinking ‘what a talent’.”

Yet Lindley — who teaches Woodburn’s younger brother, George, 15, who is on the books of Chester City — remembers a boy whose level-headed, grounded attitude was one of his main assets.

“I knew Ben from the age of seven or eight, but it wasn’t until he came to the school aged 11 that you saw what an exceptional talent he was,” he continued.

“He was scoring four or five goals for me in the school team from every position. He was playing central midfield, hitting 40-yard free kicks and playing a year out of his age group as well sometimes. He stood out then, too.

“But he is one of the most modest and level headed kids you could meet. He has a really supportive family which is fantastic and they wanted him to play school football as well as with Liverpool.

“He never really said a lot about his Liverpool days in front of anyone else. He was just a normal kid who played for the school team and you wouldn’t have known without watching him how fantastic a player he was.

“Without doubt his focus and mental strength is one of his assets. Nothing fazed him. It didn’t matter what game he was playing in, his mentality was positive all the time and that is a massive attribute.

“You could always see he was going to have a big future.”
