Wolves have today announced that manager, Mick McCarthy, has left the Club with immediate effect.

The Board took the difficult decision to terminate Mick's contract after a run of form which has seen Wolves pick up only 14 points in the last 22 League games, after a promising start to the season, culminating in yesterday's 5-1 defeat at home to West Bromwich Albion. Terry Connor will take charge of team training in the interim until a new manager is appointed.

Mick McCarthy joined Wolves in July 2006 and led the Club to the Championship title in the 2008/2009 campaign, before keeping the Club in the Barclays Premier League for the past two seasons.

The Board would like to place on record their sincere thanks and appreciation to Mick McCarthy and he leaves with the very best wishes of everyone connected to the Club.

The Club will be issuing a fuller statement in due course.

I thought it was a toss up between him and AVB for next to be sacked. Wolves are fucked still though, can't see them not going down.

fcking pissed. Was trying to find a next manager to be sacked line when they were losing yesterday. Best I saw was next permanent wolves manager which surprisngly had Rafa as favourite

They have a decent team also, so it makes it even worse.

I like McCarthy but I can see why they felt the need to do this. It'll put his nose right out of joint though.

Shame as Ive always liked Mick. Talks a lot of sense.

Well there goes Wolves chances of staying up. 2 bad losses at home and you get the sack after keeping up a mediocre team for 2 seasons that hadn't been in the top league for years and he gets the sack. Shocking.

For all of the focus on managers in the English game, perhaps rightly so given its unique history, you need good players too. He had a few in Fletcher, Kightly, O'Hara, and Jarvis, but crucially, Roger Johnson has been mostly awful and Hennessey let him down at key moments this season.

McCarthy was also in charge of the Sunderland team that went down with what I believe was/is a Premier League record-low points total. It is hard to say if bad teams are as bad as they are because the players aren't good enough or because the manager isn't.

I guess it doesn't matter now. Maybe someone else can keep them up. Good luck to Mick, seems a very nice man.

Quite like Mick to be honest. One of few in the game that has grown on me instead of wanting to bash his skull in.

But, quite predictably this will no doubt happen.

McCarthy took over that Sunderland side about two thirds into the season though, but harsh blaming him for that - they were dross, especially after Sunderland gave Peter Reid a whole summer to waste money, then sacked him just as the transfer window shut.

Definitely agree, but I suppose there was an inevitability about it following yesterday. Pity the MU board didn't act the same way when they got fucked 6-1.

I had completely forgotten about the season he was appointed, which wasn't his fault. I was referring to 2005-06 when he was sacked towards the end of the season. Yahoo fantasy picks against Sunderland were my bread and butter that year. They were genuinely awful.
