I’ve not picked a defender yet. I’ve come this far, I think I’ll sort my final attacking option next and then cobble a back four together from Norwich and Ipswich stalwarts.

If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

I hate Hazell. Or maybe I love him because he essentially picks the same players I’d pick every time. You and Tubby are almost as bad.

Overmars being selected is a big blow to my plans, just praying no one takes plan b, Jason Wilcox, I would hate for that to happen

I’ll do you a deal. I won’t pick Wilcox as long as you promise to leave me Stuart Ripley?

That's no problem at all, deal. However I think it's quite obvious now what both our next target will be after our wingers, we're probably going to face stiff competition now for David Batty. Who can forget the impact he had on Newcastles title challenge when Keegan signed him in January '96.

It wasn't dull where I was sitting.  Saw firsthand Germany beat Belgium at Soldier Field.  Wonderful match.

Actually all across the US for the first time in our history, we witnessed the beautiful game in a way that our country had not experienced.  New, exciting and vibrant.

Romania v Argentina was a great match.  Loved Holland v Ireland as well.  Enjoyed the Brazil-US match, intense.  And we did get the two best teams of the tournament - in Italy and Brazil (but sometimes the best games are masked by the final as the outcome overshadows what happened in the tournament) although the Germans would be hard to argue with as well.

And BD, your other points mask a few details as well - Golden boot was shared between Russia's Selenko (5 goals in 1 game against Cameroon skewing your analysis) and Hristo Stoickov who did make it past the group stages.  Each had 6 goals at the end of the tournament.  How many Golden Boots make it to the finals?  Every World Cup?

Selenko 6 (group stages all - 5 in 1 game against Cameroon)
Stoickov 3 (group stages and 3 in knockout).
Romario 5 (right there I'd say)
Bebeto 3 (not too far off)

More than decent partnership --- one of the most memorable national team partnerships of the 90's - 61 goals

C'mon now, this Brazil team was very good --- one that learned how to win ugly after years of torment from Argentina's 3 World Cup Final appearances (2 wins) in last 4 cups while the Selecao were regailed with would shoulda coulda at the biggest stage in global footy.   Tormented because every day is reminder of their talent, their history, and the possibility of soccer immortality.  Tormented because the last 20 years they were being asked how come its been so long since we raised the cup --- Pele.   Tormented because of the new style of play, more defensive than usual and relying upon the boys in the box to do their thing.  And they did their thing.

Brazil 1994 is one of the epochal teams which called an end to Argentinian dominance -- and inspired all new dreams for the future Selecao, leading to some truly brilliant players to come.   Not even the world's best player over the last 20 years (Messi) can say he has brought his national team to this level.

More than decent, mate.  More than :)

In short, Mauro Silva is the platform of this side.

Haha yes, that dastardly Ronald Koeman!

Think England had to win in the Netherlands didn’t they? 0-0, Platt through on goal and brought down. Could have been a penalty but deemed just outside the box. Should have been a red but he only got a yellow. England wasted the free kick and then minutes later Koeman scored one (possibly at the second attempt, think it was re-taken).

Did spark all those great Graham Taylor quotes though!

Presume Claus isn't going to be around for a while again? I'll give him plenty of time to see if he emerges.

I think we should definitely not allow them back into the pool, as they would have been picked before now, if he hadn't picked them

How many picks is he behind? I might be able to do it in a casual sort of way, since the other two drafts are finished now.

He's got three picks and its his turn again after Buck Pete so that'll be four.

Okay, sound. I've slammed 2 picks in. I'll do the others shortly. I'm just going to do it super casually in the name of honouring Hagi and my good friend Bobby. Helps you not to have uneven numbers too.

Uh huh.... your short lists have micro-phalli (who are you kidding Betts)!  If there was one person who could swoop in a draft in the 6th round and piss everyone off --- it would be you Betts :)

On another note, are you a practicing guillotine service agent?  Just wondering
