There's a bar in the middle of the red light which just feels just like a proper pub bar. It's on a a corner and is cheap. Full of dutch business types singing oompah music!

Hahaha.

There's some belters on the fringes of the city. Damned if I can remember the names of them, or directions to get there. If it wasn't whiskey, it was mushrooms or space cakes.

Amsterdam is a bit shite though...Groningen...now THATS a town!

That FEBO place has been slagged but i thought it was fuckin well nice! As was the food stalls on the canals.

Heading over there shortly for a few days, so have picked up a few suggestions from the thread.

Any of you been to Eindhoven?  I'm guessing someone will have since at one stage we seemed to play them every season.  Much fun to be had there, or not?

Eindhoven is a nice city, been a fair few times - not for the PSV games though.

Plenty of sights to view and a few strips with a load of bars, not really a bouncing kind of place though.

Went last weekend for Queens day, aswell as Amsterdam, given the choice, for fun purely - its Amsterdam everytime.

Are mushrooms available on sale there again or are they illegal?
I was there in 2008 and they were on sale in shops then but heard they might be illegal there now.

yep, but they call them brown cafe's, pretty much because they have wooden framed windows, wooden doors and beams on the roof - but its our equivilant to a pub, they serve beer on tap like.

if you go to Amsterdam you've got to go the cuckoo's nest, haha

Amsterdam is one of my favourite cities, if not my favourite city, i'm always so relaxed when i leave and that stays with me for 3/4 days after i'm home and its not just the weed.

There isn't mate, alot of them don't even offer one night stays anymore - they have so many tourists, especially at weekends it is easier for them to block book and completely rinse you.

Any you find that maybe cheap in comparison, are probably too good to be true.

hotel Acacia is amazing though for the price, great location, really nice inside, etc

seriously though its nigh on impossible to find a nice good cheap hotel in Amsterdam, i'm sure there are hostels with communial washrooms et al, but not really for me.

My best story of Amsterdam was when the volcano smog cancelled all the flights, being with easyjet there was no instant refund, you had to appeal to the head office for your money back etc, i'd caned all my money thinking i was going home, had about 40 euros left

end up lugging my bag to a brown cafe sitting have a jd and coke by myself wondering what i'm going to do, 3 of the poshest south african girls come over, travelling europe for 3 months on daddys credit card, they LOVE brits, even though they think everyone is from London and offer to get the drinks in constantly after i explained my circumstances.

After an hour or two go and get stoned in a cafe, start speaking to 2 italian muscians who are renting an apartment for 6 months, end up letting me stay free of charge and showing me around the place, fairly amazing few days considering i was supposed to be back at home.

edit: plus the all you can eat chinese restruants are cheap as chips (6-12 euros per head), when youve got the munchies sweet and sour cat isn't too bad!

Be prepared to get ID'd if you are buying weed, they will only accept a passport as proof of age. Fill your boots on all the Amstel and Heineken whilst you are there, it's the finest lager you will ever have!
