He reminds me of a midfield version of Flanno. No thrills about him. Just an honest, full-blooded footballer who loves a tackle.

This. Two footed. Mobile. Likes to defend. Is limited in distribution. Be tempted to play him in a few games see how he goes.

Now that's just a copout..

;)

I'm Hedging my bets mate.  I think he looks well worth a place in the 1st team squad, my only concern is his age, hes not that young.

Also been impressed with Branagan, his corners look much better than anyone else at the club.
As I've said before, the Full English is just the base upon which the Scots/Welsh/NI have improved upon. Sorry but the Full English is the worst of the British breakfasts.

I think we put too much importance in age. He can easily have his breakout season next year and still be one of the youngest DM in the league. From the top of my mind only Dier is younger.

This is also why there is no need to judge the even younger midfielders like Pedro, Rossiter, Brannagan.

Come on now- which is it?
Now that's just a copout..

;)

I think it's his first touch that poses a problem for him. Similar to Can, once in full control over the ball he's alright, but there's far too many heavy first touches in between them two, especially when trying to maintaining a forward movement. He's alright but I think he needs to show something in the league this season (if given the nod) to stand a chance of a longer term stay here, same for Tex. This of course, assuming they aren't happy being 4th/5th choices.

I hope both, as well as Branagan and Smith get a chance in the league as I feel Can, Ibe and Moreno are in severe need of a "reboot" in development.

Considering the state of the midfield these days, this player should be getting his chance, at the right age anyway to gamble on him as otherwise he'll just be another number in the list of write-offs, the right time considering the league's a write-off, seems to fit what we're trying to do in midfield with Klopp.

Deserves a chance in the match day squad now. Been impressed with him. He doesn't have to spray 30 yard balls all around and run past 3 or 4 players to be a good effective midfield player.
Leicester have proved you don't need to spend a fortune to get a player in your team who can perform to a high standard when given the opportunity.

It's not like we have a great midfield anyway, we still lack quality there, maybe the answers to that are in the likes of Stewart.

Klopp has to sort our midfield out, some of the performances and selection this season has been very poor. At times against West Ham there was more understanding and cohesion with the young kids than the senior players have shown this season.

Stewart, as well as others need to be involved in league games now.

You watch him play, his characteristics, he'll easily fit and improve a midfield more than someone like Can imo as Stewart shows his specific strength is defending and intercepting, dummied the opponent as necessary in winning the ball, has some nouse. Pace too, the right build to be a ball-winner. Emre I still cannot really place, once his introductory euphoria died down.

How far Stewart can go we don't know, but right now we could use what he's shown he can give.

Yeah, may's well. Watching Can and Hendo launch 60 yard cross field passes towards my head all match got a bit old. Our midfield right now is awful, he or Brannagan should make the bench at least.
Pretty happy with Arse taking it.

Disappointing.

I still think it's mad that he was signed and then just disappeared. His performance the other night has certainly made us sit up and take notice though. I was going to compare him in a way to Jay Spearing, but that would be unkind and I wouldn't want to put the lad off.

But.... tick tock tick tock, already 22 and he's only made 24 senior appearances in his career. For the good of his career, is staying here going to benefit him or should he look elsewhere for playing time? The talent is there for sure, but I don't know if he'll necessarily get much more playing time this season, especially if his contract is up in the summer. I'd like him to though.

Not only him, but I've been impressed by all the young lads who've played recently.  They look like they could adapt to Klopp's coaching better than some of the senior players.  Klopp would have taken note.

For those criticising his passing I thought his distribution was effective for the role he plays. In no way was it a downside. I saw a guy who is athletic, reads the game well and can tackle, once he wins the ball he passes it simply and importantly quickly to someone else. I really like him. Could save us some money if he can kick on from here.

Have to say I am impressed with him on these attributes.

1)Turn on the ball
2)Pace and mobility
3)Strong and hard player
4)Good anticipation - awareness in intercepting passes.

All he has to do is to win the ball and pass it to a more creative team-mate. That's it. And the defense will be well-protected.

He could be our version of coquelin.

Yeah, I'd say his passing, and generally what he does on the ball, is fit for purpose. Controls it quickly, plays head up, can pass it first time, and can also break the line with either a pass or by using his turn of pace to carry it.

Also seems very alert to covering for full back/centre back when they leave their position, tracking runners, and making himself available for a pass. Doesn't switch off. Proper team player, and very functional on the ball.

Based on individual midfield performances we have seen this season, I see no reason why he shouldn't get more opportunities over the next few weeks. Especially since Lucas is now clearly our best central defender..  ;)

Once again this player looked to have the watermark. So many things to applaud in the way he played in both legs v West Ham. His quick passing, his movement off the ball, particularly after he'd just released it, his tenacity, the way he shielded possession, his sharp turn of pace and his ability to attack open space. All good. The idea that he's a second Spearing is absurd.

If anything, I thought his performance against West Ham was a fraction below his previous performances, but there is something rather appealing about him. His passing on the deck is very crisp (and two footed), with something slightly odd-looking in the technique that perhaps doesn't translate so well to passing when on the run further forward. He might not prove to be of regular starter quality, but he looks to have enough to be a useful squad player for a time, at least.

Pretty sure his contract is up at the end of the season, or is that Tex's?

If it is and he has no intention of resigning then I don't think we'll see him unless we gat a heap of injuries again. But if Jurgen likes him and the club offer him a contract, he should certainly get a few runs with the first team. When you consider how little 1st team football he has played, I think he did really well against the Hammers. I'd even go as far as saying that over the two legs, he was probably our best player. Or at least the player that impressed me the most.

I guess a lot depends on if Jurgen has got someone else lined up and if the lad is willing to resign and be second choice. It really looks like Lucas might be turned into a centre half and if this is the case, then we need a good back up DM anyway. I am not sold on Can yet. I was, but I'm rethinking things. He doesn't seem to have a lot of game smarts. I know he is even younger than Stewart, but for all his ability, I'm not sure he knows how to use it. The last few times I've seen him play I've been very disappointed. Now maybe if young Kevin gets a run of games (as Can has), he will either sink or swim. Considering our league position, why not take the chance.

Stewart and Henderson might very well make a good midfield 2 in Jurgen's 4-2-3-1 system. Henderson offers that run forward and the ability to spray a pass, while Stewart seems to read the game very well and could cover Jordan's forward runs well.
I'd rather play for Liverpool Reserves than Everton.

He was only acquired as a filler for defence and mid in the u-21s wasn't he? At least that was the opinion I read on here. I didn't think he'd ever play for the first team but to be fair he's done alright in the FA Cup. He's shown he could provide cover in the first team if needed so could be worth hanging onto as a squad player.

You're right. All 3 midfield berths are up for grabs as far as I'm concerned. No one has played well enough in there lately.

Wasn't really watching very closely vs West Ham but I like this guy. Not sure what people are going on about in terms of limited in possession? He's just a post-tiki-taka footballer isn't he? Keeps it simple, quick, snappy, clean, two footed. This is what you need from central midfielders in 2016. Played one lovely ball out to Clyne with the outside of his boot late on, so he can do it if he needs to.

Impressed with him again today when he came on. Broke things up, kept possession and played a great pass to Clyne. Would liek to see him again
