Davies with a great shot to about 9-12 feet.

Horsey fucks up as usual and puts it in the bunker.

CHOKING PRICK

edit: Hit the flag with his bunker shot.  Ran 6 feet past :(

double edit: Davies has just missed his putt.  Him and Van Zyl both get par.  Horsey pars it too.

Back to the tee...

Davies Missed.

Van Zyl Missed.

HORSEY HOLES AND WINS.  HAHA.  Very lucky after his choke on the 18th with a 1 shot lead.

Don't ever do that again!

66/1 on Paddypower

Only had £2.50 each way on that one as it was a 5 pound free bet.  That returned £206.65

Also had £1 each way on @ 75/1 when I checked oddschecker for the best odds.  Think that returned about £95

Good day :)

What a shot by Phil at the 1st - Chipped in for Birdie.
His scrambling is simply 2nd to none just what you need for this course.

EDIT: Kiss of death strikes again- bogied 2 and 3.  :'(

Mickelson is going to piss the Masters.

 ???

Hardly going to piss it is he?
He's been very inconsistent recently and even in this tournament he has.  It's a good job he has scrambled well around the green.

It won't be plain sailing

14's last year so have to believe 8's is too short. Alot of energy expanded this week too with being in contention and all that.
So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

His driving has been absolutely atrocious.

You get out of position at Augusta, you're in trouble.

His fairway stats today must be terrible.

Nah he won't piss it, just mad I haven't backed him because I probably won't bother backing him now, too short (i'll think about it and decide on Wednesday). Backed him last week at 20's, laid him tonight, planned to back him for next week and now won't, I get him wrong a lot!

Nice one Pete and Adam today, good stuff.

Roll on The Masters.

On Watney at 45/1 a few months ago, Harrington 70 on betfair, Molinari and Yang around the 100 mark, J.Byrd e/w at 150/1 and Ben Crane at 280. Those are my bets so far, not sure if i'll add anything.

Quoting myself smuggly here becuase that was called dead on in regards to this course and Mickelson's phenonemal short game.  That makes going to work tomorrow a bit easier.

Agree with others though.  He needs to improve his accuracy off the tee greatly at Augusta if he wants to win it next week.  Not my main bet next week but I'll be having a few quid on him.

Houston Open

I really fancy Phil Mickelson for this one this week.  On reading the course review and past stats it is evident that hitting the fairway isn't essential and decent players from the rough between 100-175 yrds and sand can prevail here. Course also ranked 7th in difficulty for scrambling and 8th in putting.

Ups:
Lefty is an amazing -8 in relation to par for shots >100 yds from the rough and -7 >200 yrds from the rough.  He's up there at 38th in scrambling and due a win too.

Downs:
Ranked at 90th for putting after his 7 events this year, so much room for improvement on the green.

SO if Mickelson can miss all the fairways and drop his approaches from therough pin-hi I'm in business ;D

Mickelson- 20-1 Betfair.

I'm happy with my 80/1 on Kim as things stand.

Didn't go over par at all in any round this week, and from what I saw today, I'm guessing his driving must've been pretty emphatic as he pretty much a birdie putt on every whole on the front 9 from 30 feet or less.

Sadly, he only took one, so if he can sort out his short game I think he's in with a massive shot.

Backed Ishikawa at 300/1 too, amazing potential, throw in the story of his donations this year, would be a perfect fairytale and all that bollocks too.

Well done Buck Pete and Adam for picking the winners in Europe and the PGA.

Adam got Horsey at 66/1 and Pete had Mickelson at 20/1 - I doubt if Mickelson was available at those odds in most places but we will use those numbers for the forum bet purposes.

Week one our hypothetical doubles bet on a  £1 stake was  £100 - Return =  £0

Week two - Stake  £244 - Return =  £ 1340

If those calculations are wrong let me know.

What a performance that was by Mickelson, it was a pleasure to watch.

If you have any observations from this week please post them.

Mine are Robert Rock is a knob and I doubt if he's got 4 decent rounds in him. Although would follow him in the first round leader market.

Bjorn shot 10 under in the final round today. Not sure what to make of that.

I had  £25 on Kim @ 80/1  each way after the first round. He's a shithouse.

This weeks observations:

Gary Woodland up there yet again T13th. What a season this guy is having.  175-1 Skybet for the Masters and 230 the win on Betfair. Ridiculous price and Im having some of that.

Also Brandt Jobe.  Been meaning to back this guy for a while. He's just had a great week finishing 9th and a hole in one today. Not playing the Masters but one to watch along with young Chris Kirk who finished T2nd.

He was +8 on the par 3's over the week with having 3 double bogey's!

Also going to add Furyk to my team at 75/1 e/w, 3 times winner on the PGA tour last year, finished 4th twice in the past (+ a Tied 6th which bookies pay out for aswell, gotten e/w money 3 times in the past, surely value to do it again?), just feel if he can get himself into contention their is many other players who aren't proven mentally and could hand it to Furyk on a plate with his steady play if he gets close. Him being in contention is a big if though. Think that'll be my last bet. Will do a few T5 bets aswell for players I haven't backed e/w.

Outside bet
A. Hansen 300/1

Was looking at that bet myself last night. Superb value. Bookies must think Hansen is playing blind folded or something.

Forum bet is Luke Donald by the looks of it. Im with the lad Donald myself. I'm also doing lefty as he's my favorite player and i'd love to see him winning it again.

Already done Gazza Woodland at 175-1 and may do Paul Casey too

Will have a look fo ra couple more value bets over the next few days.

His odds are high because he hasn't made the cut in any majors last year and generally doesn't do too well in Majors.

BUT

I watched him in the Cadillac Championship and he was great on the last day and one big day here could set him up nicely for an each way finish.  He's a good player and 300/1 is big odds for him.  I thought he was going to be about 150/1 and I was toying with it.  At 300/1 i had to have a little nibble.  Only £2 each way.

Masters - Mickelson to win the Masters again. It will screw up the trophy presentation but it's hard to look past the best player in the world with a magnificent record at Augusta. Others e/w - Kuchar, Watney, Rose, KJ Choi

Top European and English player - Rose. Had two wins in the USA since he last played in the Masters. His record in his last 3 tournaments going in is 2nd, 5th, 3rd.

Top Rest of the World player -  KJ Choi - Choi showed a little form last time out and has the nerve to contend if he's in the mix on the weekend.

Top First time invite - I'll follow Buck and go with Gary Woodland.

First round Leader - Justin Rose has had a couple of low scores in the first rd over the last few years. Ricky Barnes, only gets in the tournament because his dad knows someone on the Augusta board of directors, but seems to show up for the Masters and might have a low round in him this time around.

I won't bother with the forum bet this week as we only have the one tournament. Will continue it next week.

Par 3 contest is on TV tomorrow.  Should be good fun.
Anyway here are the previous winners.

2010 - Louis Oosthuizen
2009 - Tim Clark
2008 - Rory Sabbatini
2007 - Mark O'Meara
2006 - Ben Crane
2005 - Jerry Pate
2004 - Padraig Harrington
2003 - Padraig Harrington, David Toms (tie)
2002 - Nick Price
2001 - David Toms
2000 - Chris Perry

Last 3 years have come from South Africa.  Is it Charl Schwartzels turn?

Going to have 2 little bets on this to get the week going.  Its all fun and not too serious but odds look favourable (very compact for the majority) and might just pick up a sneaky win before the main tournament.
