Tech forum Bargain thread

Armin:
Think it makes sense to have one specifically for this board. So post any bargains / good deals of a tech/gadget/computerish nature here. Post a link to any sites which are good for tech bargains and we'll collate the links, although a few of them are already listed in the big thread above.

I've just bought a new tft screen but until it arrives I've no idea whether its a bargain or not. So someone else can start.

Cheap places to buy components:

http://www.ebuyer.com A good benchmark site Their customer service is shocking, but they are reliable and fairly cheap. Good for comparison. They have a weekly e-mail of special offers (ebuyer edeals) with some really cheap stuff on - well worth signing up for.

www.komplett.co.uk has been decent in my experience as well
www.cpc.co.uk We're not going to beat ebuyer or dabs on price, but we do have a much larger range (ie. not just computer stuff).

Ok my 19" widescreen monitor arrived yesterday afternoon, a disgraceful 19 hours after I ordered it. It's rather nice and a good price to boot. It therefore takes pride of place as bargain number one. I got it from Dabs:

http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?quicklinx=446N&InMerch=1

at a cost of 129.48 inc vat. There's no DVI cable included so I got the £5 one also from Dabs as well. They'd given me a tenner voucher in recognition of my majestic greatness so I used that to make me even happier.

The monitor itself has a 5ms response time and is very sleek. The buttons are on the side and the speakers at the back so you get a nice streamlined look. Only downside is there's not much play in the adjustable stand and you may need to put it on a monitor stand to get it to a decent eye level. The screen itself is lovely, am running at 1400x900 and its a massive improvement on the old 17" crt. With a new C90 in my walkman and this screen I'm finally at the cutting edge. Word.

Of course the happiness only lasted until I saw this counter offer from Overclockers:

The same monitor, albeit £5 more expensive but with the added incentive of three saucily attired young minxes. Doubtless they're mass produced in China and bits may fall off after extended use but even so this looks a more attractive deal. I've no idea what it would cost at usual market rates to obtain the services of these maidens but no doubt all, most some of you do. I'll hazard a guess that it's more than a fiver so as soon as I've constructed a suitable dungeon abode for them I'll be ordering another monitor.

Is the base detachable and do you have VESA mounts on the back of that monitor?  I'm looking for one but I want to get a bracket and hang it on the wall (I need more space on my desk to cover with clutter).

The speakers are mounted on the back so am not sure about a wall mounting. The base is deffo detachable as it was when I got it. Manual is usual Chinese to English gibberish but
but will check out further.

Also a blatant plug for my employers:

Yep thats another I should already have had in the resource thread. I like the end of line bargain stuff on your site, there's often some really good finds in there. Will do an updated list at the top of this thread at some point.

Ok, have checked this out now. The base is indeed detachable, the mounting arm comes attached to the monitor but can be unscrewed. There's 4 holes on the back in a Vesa formation but not sure whether its 3"x3" or 4"x4" I can measure it however if required, it looks pretty much like others I've seen.
