Haha, love that article, it's so wonderfully Dutch. Someone's obviously mentioned Cruyff, Van Gaal has over heard and and thought "I'm not having that".

Interesting that Barrett says Comolli was after a striker and a central defender? First one is a necessity, but thought we were ok with Agger, Skrtel and Coates next season plus Wilson and possibly Carra.

I would trust him to choose the best players though!

Van Gaal - as a coach - has an exceptional record (IMHO) of pushing through youngsters and getting the older players out of the team.

Both Van Gaal and Cryuff seem more like figurehead (or 'philosophical' appointments) than true DOFs in the style that many on the continent have though. It's definitely a move away from the scouting and financial type of DOF that Comolli was, and that the likes of Monchi are/were.

"Comolli cut a relaxed figure, according to club insiders, and had set up meetings with players’ agents for next week as he looked to step up his search for a goal-scorer and a central defender."

Has he actually been at a club where he doesn't fight? And the thought of Cruyff being DOF is just crazy

Is it that simple though? He loves a fight apparently and you can imagine him sticking his nose in if tactics were used that he wasn't exactly fond of.

Wilson isn't highly rated, Carra getting on and we'll be competing on 4 fronts, centre half is a necessity.

Cruyff is a very interesting shout.  That would be fascinating to watch.

The more I think about it, the more I think that the description "very interesting" is a good thing.  If it weren't someone at the very top of the game, it wouldn't be that interesting.

i would say we need another cb, wilson isn't good enough and he's nowere near first team action barely reserves?

and carra is not good enough anymore and defo needs replacing in the summer

Van Gaal at Liverpool would cause murder... can´t see this happening.

But it looks like they are talking to the right people at the moment, the fact that van Gaal or Cruyff have been mentioned for sure is an indication for heading in the right direction.
One thing does need to be said: in the post-Benitez era, there was media-led clamour (but also some politicking going on at the club) to make the club more English; the idea being that the club had lost the very essence of what it means to be ‘Liverpool’. Guillem Ballague 18/11/10

Do people actually think that an appointment is going to be announced on the BBC?

Ben Smith's just moved there, any news they break would be through him I'd imagine.

And I think another central defender would be a good idea, but it'd be down my list of priorities - behind a striker, winger, central midfielder. But I suppose if Carragher is done then having only Coates for backup isn't enough.

Thing is, the defender might be a 17 year old.
