Liverpool have confirmed a 20-man travelling squad for the FIFA Club World Cup.

The Reds fly to Qatar today before entering the tournament at the semi-final stage on Wednesday, with Monterrey their opponents in Doha.

Dejan Lovren is not included after sustaining a muscle injury against Salzburg earlier this week, but Georginio Wijnaldum does travel following his withdrawal in the second half of the win over Watford.

Club World Cup squad: Alisson, Van Dijk, Wijnaldum, Milner, Keita, Firmino, Mane, Salah, Gomez, Adrian, Henderson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lallana, Lonergan, Shaqiri, Robertson, Origi, Jones, Alexander-Arnold, Williams.

Means they are ineligible for Final.
No, jazz. You fear jazz. You fear the lack of rules, the lack of boundaries. Oh look, it's a fence. But, no, it's soft.

I said we wouldn't let players fly to the CWC after Villa match. It would of been pointless and costly.

So Brewster and Elliott staying to play against Villa. Jones and Williams to be apart of CWC squad.

Worried about Lovern injury though if he can't fly out.

So Kelleher, hoever, van den berg, boyes?, larouci, kane chirivella, christie-davies, elliott, longstaff, brewster if he's fit, for the villa game. Villa should be beating that line-up even if they make 11 changes, but hopefully we can keep it competitive  and it can be a good showcase for some.

Jones and williams surely start the cwc semi final as well.

Can't the club formally nominate 23 players for a World Cup so that three players more will travel after the Villa game just in case?

Either way, hopefully it's very good news that Gini is travelling, as in that he could be fit within a week. I'm a bit concerned that Hoever isn't travelling though, that means we're going to roll out both of van Dijk and Gomez against Monterrey and that feels risky.

Elliot and Brewster have. The travelling squad article suggests that Williams and Jones travelled to Qatar this morning.

Edit: Jones is defo on the plane, there’s a picture.

Only two fit centre backs going to Qatar which is a concern because it probably means Van Dijk and Gomez will play in both games.

I think it's fine. The CB don't cover as much ground as the midfielders, fullbacks, and attackers.

After what happened with Lovern and his muscle injury hopefully we don’t take any risks with Wijnaldum. The kids will be weakened for the game against Villa now that Williams and Jones will be travelling to Qatar but I think it’s the right thing to do. Hopefully we use Williams and Jones in the first game in Qatar. I’d go for something like this.

Tue 17 Dec: Quarter final of league cup vs Aston Villa

                     Kelleher

Koumetio     VDB     Hoever     Larouci

                    Chirivella
           Kane                 Lewis

   Elliott                               Longstaff
                     Brewster

Wed 18 Dec: Semi final of FIFA Club World Cup

                        Alisson

Williams     Gomez     Van Dijk     Robbo

                        Lallana
              Milner            Jones

   Shaqiri                              Mane
                          Origi

Sat 21 Dec: Final of FIFA Club World Cup

                    Alisson

Trent     Gomez     Van Dijk     Robbo

                  Henderson
              Ox               Keita

      Salah                           Mane
                     Firmino

I would think that Jones and Williams are travelling because the plan is for them to start the first match, otherwise why not leave them behind for the Villa match?

If Van Dijk is ever going to get a rest, the Monterrey game feels the right time. He might not play in the cup against Everton, but that's a few weeks away, and he's played every minute this season besides the 2 league cup games. Lovren and Matip being injured is a massive pain in the arse.

Robertson starting both games would be dumb when he's already played loads and didnt get a proper rest yesterday. All outfield players who've gone should really be starting at least one of the games.
